Horley & District Open Show - 25th August 2024 Thank you to the hard working committee for inviting me to judge at their show. It is a lovely show with a great atmosphere which is testament to committee and all involved. Thank you to my stewards who kept me in check and the ring running smoothly, and thank you to all who entered and allowed me the privilege of going over their dogs. It would do some to remember that double handling is not permitted in any form - even in junior handling. I was super pleased to see my Mini Wire Dachshund win the hound group with my BOB PBGV taking group 4, my standard wire dachshund puppy winning the hound puppy group, and my mini smooth dachshund winning puppy group 3. To top the day off, my BPIB in Tibetan spaniels also won the puppy group! Junior Handling 6-11 years (5,3) 1 - Bethany Guillod-Rees Nicely turned out young lady. Knew her breed, very good in handling her difficult charge, nice big triangle and straight up and down. Very patient and calm with her dog. 2 - Amelia Blanchard Nicely turned out young lady. Handling a nervous toy poodle but never flustered, showed teeth well and did a good straight up and down. Just needs practice pattern work a bit more and you’ll go far. 12-16 years (4,1) 1 - Kara Mason handling an Irish setter. Really good, so patient with a young and sometimes reluctant dog. Good pattern work and straight lines maintaining tight corners. BJH 2 - Calleigh Hird handling a golden. Another young dog, handler tells me this is the first time she has handed this young dog. I am very impressed with the kindness and patient shown by this handler. Really good on all fronts, 1 was just a bit tighter on their corners and pattern work today. 17-29 years (7,1) 1 - Sraeyaa Jayakumar Really good handling - super accurate and listened to everything I asked. Good pattern work, tight corners and straight lines. Excellent rapport with your dog. BAH 2 - Alysha Branchflower Super handling, good use of ring and good lines and tight corners - just didn’t finish the pattern! Excellent sportsmanship and rapport with her dog. 30-45 years (8,4) 1 - Hailey McKnight really accurate pattern work and good corners and lines. Showed patience when the breed type shone through and there was some stubbornness. Gentle on the table and knew the anatomical question 2 - Helen Marsden Nice work and good lines and corners, just needs to use the ring a bit better and go right around at the end. 46+ Years (13,5) 1 - Lesley Peters really calm and collected handler, I like the rapport shown with a young dog. Good pattern work, accurate and correct. Moved the dog at the correct pace and good communication all the way through. 2 - Sue Tubb Handling a young golden. Nice pattern work and good stack at the start and end. Gentle showing teeth and good pattern work. Particularly good last up and down - very accurate. Afghan Post grad (2,0) 1 - Rhodes, Shaverneva & Gerrad’s Alaqadar Ariodante Of Shadowfax (AI) (IMP AUS) Nice young bitch, still with plenty to mature but I liked this girls overall shape and movement. Beautiful head with good neck into well laid shoulder. Correct topline and nice tail carriage. Good construction throughout and covered the ground well. RBOB 2 - Turner’s Nightwind You’re My Kind Of Crazy (IMP DEU) More mature bitch. Pleasing head and eye, good neck into good shoulder. Nice rear movement, a bit longer in loin than I would like. Moved out well in all directions. Open (4,1) 1 - Fisher’s Shimalma Campari Goes to Ifmaraf Nice overall shape to this bitch. Shown in hard condition. Loved her head and eye shape. Good neck into sound shoulder. Correct topline and tail carriage, both maintained on the move. Good lay of shoulder, nice and tight at elbow. Good width at pin bones, sound rear construction. BOB 2 - Boydell’s Nightwind You Can’t Stop The Beat JW Nice dog of nice shape. Carrying a bit more weight than I would prefer. Obviously masculine without coarseness, nice head into good lay of shoulder. Ribbed well back, good topline and tail set. Covered the ground well in all directions. Grands Puppy (0) Junior (0) Post grad (1,0) 1 - Weymouth’s Soufriere TourBillion At Woolybassets Nicely put together bitch, good head with correct ear set, fall and length. Balanced and in proportion. Good neck into OK shoulder, nice straight front, tight elbow. Ribbed well back. OK rear construction, moved well in profile, a little close behind. RBOB Open (2,0) 1 - Marshall’s Soufriere One Vision JW Nice bitch of balanced proportions, nice feminine head with nice eye and correct ear set, length and fall. Nice front and ribbed well back. Good loin and rear construction. Moved the best. BOB 2 - Marshall’s Soufriere Paserelle Bateau Nice dog with pleasing head. Correct ear set, length and fall. Nice neck into OK shoulder, ribbed well back and strong across the loin. Correct tail set and carriage. Moved a little close behind but good in profile. Petit Puppy (0) Junior (0) Post grad (2,0) 1 - Moore’s Afterglow Dough Blend Impact Nicely balanced young hound of good proportions. Pleasing head with correct proportions and ear set. Nice length of neck into good shoulder. Correct topline with correct tail set, both maintained on the move. Moved soundly in all directions. RBOB 2 - Wood’s Beaujons Velvet More mature bitch, I liked her head and expression. Good neck into OK shoulder, ribbed well back and rear construction OK. Moved nicely in profile, a little close behind. Open (6,1) 1 - Skerrit & Bett’s Beaujons Vagabond of Monkhams Nice hound of pleasing proportions. Il liked his head with correct ear set and nice dark eye. Good neck into good lay of shoulder. Ribbed well back and nice rear construction. Moved nicely in all directions. BOB 2 - McEwan’s Marunnel Orinoco Dog of a slightly heavier mould than 1 but also liked his head. Good neck into well laid shoulders, ribbed well back and nice topline held on the move with good tail carriage. Moved well in all directions, just out moved by 1 today. Dachshund (mini long) Puppy (0) Junior (1,0) 1 - McCarthy’s Nagshall Di Maria Nicely balanced bitch with good angulation. Good length to height ratio. Moved nicely, pretty head with nice dark eye and nice ear set. Prominent sternum. Ribbed well back and nice strong loin. Topline maintained on the moved and moved nicely in all directions. RBOB Post Grad (1,0) 1 - McCarthy’s Nagshall The Odd Excuse Balanced butch with correct angles and height to length ratio. Prettiest of heads with a lovely dark eye and correct ear set. Nice feet on this bitch and plenty of bone. Good front and rear angulation, nice topline held on the move. Ribbed well back and strong in loin. Moved out in all directions. BOB Open (2,1) 1 - McCarthy’s Nagshall Dutch Odyssey Nicely made dog of good angles and proportions. Masculine in head, balanced with dark eye and correct ear set. Nice neck into good shoulder, ribbed well back. Nice strong loin and topline which was held on the move. Little reluctant but moved nicely when focussed. Dachshund (Std Long) Puppy (0) Junior (0) Postgraduate (0) Open (2,0) 1 - Sutton’s Kindface Texas Tornado at Damai Masculine male with a lovely head, dark eye and correct ear set. Nice neck into well laid and correctly angulation shoulder. Good topline, ribbed well back and strong across the loin. Good feet and bone. Moved well in all directions. BOB 2 - Clarke’s Tekalhaus The Excelsior ShCEx Nicely made dog of correct angles. Nice bone, ribbed well back and strong in loin. Nice feet, moved well in all directions. Preferred the head on 1. RBOB Dachshund (mini smooth) Puppy (1,0) 1 - Fairchild’s Ardenrun Pin Striped With Restinim Nicely made little bitch. Pretty head with nice eye. Correct ear set. Good length of neck into well laid shoulder, prominent sternum, ribbed well back. Correct rear construction moved cleanly in profile. Junior (2,0) 1 -Forge’s Normpug Roman Holiday Nicely made male of good and corrected proportions. I liked his head very much, lovely shape and balance with dark eye. Good neck into nice lay of shoulder, ribbed well back and strong in loin. Correct front and rear angulation with correct height to length proportions. Moved really nicely in all directions. BOB 2 - Butterstone’s Joshotto Martha Gunn Nice little bitch with a pretty head. Nice neck into OK shoulder, prominent sternum and ribbed well back. Strong in loin with correct front and rear angulation. Moved nicely but I preferred the movement on 1. Post graduate (3,1) 1 - Revell’s Veederhall LullabyNicely balanced bitch throughout with good angles and proportions. Pretty and balanced head with correct ear set. Pleasing neck into well laid shoulders, ribbed well back, good rear angualtion. Moved cleanly in all directions. 2 - Forge’s Normpug Tiger EyesMore mature bitch, pleasing head, nice front angulation and ribbed well back, sternum prominent. Strong across the loin and topline held on the move. Moved well in profile. Open (3,0) 1 - Rose’s Pennydach Mystique at Rosencrantz Nicely balanced bitch throughout. Pretty head and correct ear set. Good neck into well laid shoulders. Prominent sternum. Good depth of chest and ribbed well back. Strong in loin and excellent rear construction. Soundest of movers. RBOB 2 - Forge’s Normpug Apricot Beauty Pleasing bitch of nice proportions. Good neck, prominent sternum and nice depth of chest. Strong across the back and loin. Good rear construction. Moved nicely in all directions. Dachshund (Std Smooth) Puppy (0) Junior (1,0) 1 - Valentine’s Empetthounds Genesis into Tiffwazz nicely made bitch of good proportions and angles. Nice balanced head with correct ear set. Nice neck into good shoulder, prominent sternum, good depth of chest. Ribbed well back strong across the back and loin. Sound rear construction. Moved OK in all directions. BOB Post Graduate (2,1) 1 - Valtentine’s Amlida Tamara to Tiffwazz pleasing birch well made. Nice head, good neck into OK shoulder. Prominent sternum, good depth of chest and ribbed well back. Good strong loin and rear construction. Moved a little erratically today sadly. RBOB Open (1,1) Dachshund (mini wire) Junior (2,0) 1 - Rose’s Barratini Song and Dance with Rosencrantz Nicely made little hound of good proportions and angels. Nice head, good neck into nicely placed shoulder. Good depth of chest, ribbed well back, prominent sternum. Nice level topline held on the move. Moved nicely in all directions. BOB 2 - Perry & Handyside’s Zoltarous Mini Kora Slightly more up on leg than i would like. Nice head, with correct set ear. Dark eye. Good length of neck, into OK shoulder. Ribbed well back, stong in loin. OK rear construction. Moved well in profile, a little close behind. Post Graduate (5,3) 1 - Stewart-Brown’s Griffindax Gin Fizz Nice over all shape. Pleasing head with nice eye brows, correct ear set, dark eye. Good neck into OK shoulder, prominent sternum, good depth of chest. Good topline, tail set good. Moved OK, close behind. 2 - 2nd in Junior Open (4,2) 1 - Piper’s Macushia Michael Mosley at Avvoltoio Sound male, with nice head, and dark eye. Correct ear set. Fair neck into OK shoulder placement. Good front angles, topline well muscled and strong in loin. RBOB 2 - Stewart-Brown’s Pennywave Pink Gin Pleasing head and good neck into OK shoulder. Nice strong topline, prominent sternum. Good depth of chest and ribbed well back. Dachshund (std wire) Puppy (2,1) 1 - Howlett & Rowe’s Boloria Oh Darling very raw but beautifully made young puppy. Lovely head, eye brows and dark eye. Excellent length of neck into well laid shoulders. Good front with prominent sternum. Good depth of chest and ribbed well back. Sound rear construction. Moves cleanly and well for age covering ground. I loved everything about her, she is going to be fun! BOB & BPIB Junior (1,0) 1 - Rowe’s Boloria Goodnight Mr Tom nicely made young dog, pleasing proportions and angles throughout. Loved his head, dark eye and expression. Nice neck into well laid shoulder. Prominent sternum, ribbed well back with good depth of chest. Strong across the loin and maintained his topline on the move. Moved nicely in all directions. RBOB Postgraduate (0) Open (3,1) 1 - Howlett & Phillips’ Tendrow Malabar JW nicely made male of good proportions, pleasing head, good neck into correct and well laid shoulder. Prominent sternum and good depth of chest, ribs going well back. Strong loin and good topline. Sound front and rear construction. Moved well in profile. 2 - Apps’ Calicoe Just Me pleasing male, good proprotions and angles throughout. Nice depth of chest, prominent sternum. Good front and rear construction, moved out well. Moved well in all directions BOB Whippets Puppy Dog (1,0) 1 - Gorman’s Dejare On A PromiseNice young male of typical shape and size. Lovely clean head, dark eye with correct ear set, shape and texture. Graceful arch to neck into good shoulder set. Good front, depth of chest and ribbed well back. Strong loin and topline, lovely rear angulation. Moved well covering the ground. BPIB Puppy Bitch (1,1) Junior (2,1) 1 - Earnshaw’s Palmik I Know What I Like at Moonshadow Pleasing male, nice head, good eye set and shape. Correct ear set shape and texture. Nice neck into well laid shoulders. Good front and depth of chest. Ribbed well back. Stong losing, well muscled throughout. Nice fall away and tail set. Moved nicely. Yearling (5,1) 1 - Middleton & Gilhooly’s Stormida Neon Tiger Nice male, loved his head, dark eye and strong jaw. Correct ear set and texture. Fabulous neck with nice arch into well laid shoulders. Good depth of chest extending well back. Strong in loin, good rear and well muscled throughout. Nice fall away, tail set and carriage. Moved the soundest in the class in all directions. BOB 2 - Allansson & Macdonald’s Zoraden Simply The Best of Macalldon Good male, with nice head, balanced with dark eye, nice ears. Lovely arched neck into good shoulder. Adequate depth of chest, strong across his back. Good front and rear construction. Moved out well covering the ground. Post Graduate (9,3) 1 - Gorman’s Dejare Seeing Stars Nice balanced and well proportioned male. Lovely head,dark eye, correct ear set and texture. Graceful neck into well laid shoulders. Lovely topline, strong across the loin and well muscled throughout. Good front and rear assembly. Moved the best in the class . 2 - Lahood’s Starceylon Spectre Nicely shaped male, nice head, good neck into good shoulder. Good pasterns, good depth of chest. Strong topline and loin. Sound front and rear assembly. Moved well covering the ground well. Limit (4,2) 1 - Middleton & Gilhooly’s Stormida Squirrels For Tea Beautiful bitch, obviously feminine without the loss of subsatnce. I loved her head, dark eye and expression. Good neck into well laid shoulders. Sound front with tight elbows, good depth of chest and ribbed well back. Strong loin and good topline held on the move (even in the cold). Moves the best in profile and is a vision. 2 - Leathart’s Ringmore Iona Nicely made and size bitch. Pretty head, lovely ear set and texture. Good neck into good shoulder, nice topline and Stong loin. Depth of chest is good and ribbed well back. Good fall away and tail set. Just a little loose at elbow today. Open Dog (4,1) 1 - Shepherd’s Kidaruka It’s Showtime At Oxana JW ShCEx OSW Nice mature male, pleasing head with nice eye and ear set. Good neck into well laid shoulders, graceful topline held on the move. Sound front and rear construction. Good fall away with correct tail set. Moved well in all directions. 2 - Byron’s Jasarat Gucci pleasing male, good neck into well laid shoulders sound front and rear construction.good depth of chest, ribbed well back and Stong loin. Nice mover, just out moved by 1 today. 1 dog sadly withdrawn. Open Bitch (5,3) 1 - Longhurst’s Abbeyhurst Dancing Queen JW Nice shape and so sound throughout. Beautiful head, eat set shape and texture. Excellent depth of chest, ribbed well back. Graceful topline and fall away, tail carried gracefully. Sound front and rear, moved soundly in all directions. RBOB 2 - Leathart’s Ringmore Hecate Pleasing birch of nice size and shape. Pleasing head, good neck into good shoulder. Nice topline held on the move. Graceful throughout, out moved by 1. Tibetan Spaniel Puppy (2,0) 1 - Bevis’ Souska Touch the Sky Over Starlance Lovely made puppy, nice head, good depth of chin and correct bite. Nice neck into good shoulders. Nice topline held on the move. Good rear construction and slight bow evident in front. Moved soundly in all directions for one so young. I really liked him and he is going to be fun to watch. BPIB 2 - Austin’s Malia Winter Memories TAF Nice balanced dog, good neck into OK shoulder. Level topline held on the move, good front with evident slight bow. Nice rear construction and tail carriage. A little close behind today. Post Grad (1,0) 1 -Steven’s & McKnight’s Mullagh My Irish Ivy at Tibbygold (IKC) Pleasing bitch. Loved her head and expression. Lovely depth of chin, correct bit. Lovely ear set and use. Good neck into nice shoulder. Slight bow evident in front. Good depth of chest and ribbed well back. Lovely gloves on hare feet. Nice tail set and carriage. Moved out well in all directions covering the ground with ease. RBOB Open (1,0) 1 - Steven’s & McKnight’s Ch Rhubisk Dressed to Impress at Tibbygold nicely bitch of good size and proportions. Lovely head, feminine with good depth of chin and correct bit. Nice ear set and use. Lovely topline, good depth of chest, ribbed well back. Shown in full coat and fabulous condition. Lovely movement in all directions. BOB Veteran dog stakes 1 - Welch, Maber & Hazeltine’s Ch Pytchley Chasing the Dream for Hookwood JW ShCM ShCEx lovely male with fabulous movement. Loved his overall shape and proportions. Excellent head and neck, correct lay of shoulder. Good depth of chest and ribbed well back, good front and rear angulation. He was in super hard condition. 2 - Woodhams’ Glynell Jiffy - nicely put together and sound throughout. In fabulous condition and moved out lovely covering the ground with ease. Lovely head, good neck. Sound lay of shoulder and strong across the back and loin. Sound in front and behind. Veteran bitch stakes 1 - Walden’s Geenawell Gilmore Girl For Taramount - Just a stunning example of the breed for her age which she defies. I loved her overall shape and balance with the most beautiful head and expression. Soundly made throughout her confirmation shone through in her movement. 2 - Ferguson’s Nedlaw Queen of Hearts - Another soundly made and well put together bitch. Good bone through out, she has a lovely balanced head with lovely expression and dark eye. Ear set correct. Well made throughout and moved with reach and drive covering the ground.
