Houndshow Open 2024

Thank you to the secretary and committee for this appointment. I always enjoy judging these two breeds, and always have excellent support. Thank you to my two stewards who ticked us along nicely.

Norwegian Elkhounds

Open Dog

1) & BOB Mauns - Ch Bowerhinton Bassanio – Having judged this dog previously when he was still a junior, I am glad to see he has now finished. Many of my previous sentiments stand, his head shape, eyes and ears all excellent. Good neck and lay of shoulder providing excellent reach. Prominent forechest. Good curve to his ribs and of length. Short body leading to a correct rear. Well set tail and correct coat. In good condition and in effortlessly covering the ground.

2) Clarke's - Graythor Cosmopolitan – A dog of good size with a darker mask. Strong head, but in proportion. Nice shape and colour to his eyes, with a good ear set too. Nice lay of shoulder, and good shape to his ribs. Good length of body leading to well-made rear. Super tail and excellent coat. Good profile movement using his rear to drive and cover the ground well.

Open Bitch

1) & RBOB Mauns - Bowerhinton Blackbird – 18month old typey bitch who ticked a lot of boxes. Feminine throughout. Lovely expression, good eyes and ears nicely set of good size. Good neck. Correct shoulders and giving correct reach. Shapely ribs, of length. Well made rear. Good tail and set. Once settled very easy to watch in profile. Hoping to see her winning honours soon.

Post Graduate Dog or Bitch

1) BP & RBOB - Morris's – Augustin Las Zen Montanas Anharbn (Imp Hun) – 8 Month old predominantly white dog of good size. Typical head, of good proportion. Alert ears of good size. Neck of good length, well laid shoulders, providing good reach on the move. Prominent breast bone, flat ribs, nice tuck up. well made rear and of good muscle. Held his topline on the move, showing excellent reach.

Open Dog or Bitch

1) & BOB – Woodcocks - Ch Abbotsoak Any Dream Will Do – Handsome Chestnut and White dog. Surprised when owner said he was 6, as was toned and ready to go. Masculine head, of nice proportions with a nice eye and ear. Good shoulder set, flat ribs of generous length. Well tucked up. Excellent rear construction, and correct feet. Showed his impressive typical profile movement, balanced, and maintaining his topline with excellent reach and drive.

2) Vescans – Gor Gona De Entresaltos – Pretty bitch, white, with some chestnut markings and in good condition. Pleasant head, in proportion with well set alert ears. Strong neck of good length. Nice shoulders, chest not too deep. Good forechest. Good shape to her ribs, excellent tuck up and topline. Good rear angulation, providing propulsion.
