CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 20TH OCTOBER, 2024
DOGS
Thank you for the kind invitation to judge dogs at the Golden Retriever Club of Northumbria’s Championship Show, for their hospitality on the day and for the lovely gift. It’s always such a lovely well-run show with a nice friendly atmosphere. Many thanks to the extremely hardworking Committee and my lovely Stewards who kept everything running so smoothly. Thanks also to the exhibitors who brought their dogs for me to judge in such horrible weather and accepted my decisions in such a sporting manner. I had a lovely quality entry and some really nice dogs went cardless. Decisions are difficult sometimes and made on the day when at another time no doubt they would have been placed higher. I was delighted with my final line-up of 10 lovely dogs, many of whom were worthy of top honours on another day
BABY PUPPY DOG - 1
1st Sloan & Hunter’s Palmona’s Call My Bluff – What a lovely confident young man! 5 months old and he stood and moved like a little pro. He has plenty of bone and a lovely head with jet black pigment. Well angulated front and back with neat tight feet. His owner is going to have a lot of fun with him I think!
VETERAN DOG – 7(1) Always my favourite class, it’s so nice to see the oldies enjoying their day out
1ST Loverock & Waldron-Smith’s Lovissa Space Dust ShCM VW – He caught my eye as he came in the ring. He has a beautiful head, masculine but with a soft gentle expression and dark eye. Good straight front and a lovely reach of neck which flows onto a dead level topline. Good depth throughout and well angulated hindquarters. He moved out positively and with drive and at 10yrs old could put some of the youngsters to shame. Well handled and presented. On reading the catalogue I see he is the sire to both the dog and bitch Res CC today. BVD and BVIS with my co judges full approval
2nd Towers & Henderson’s Ch Alibren Galileo to Westervane JW SGWC – Another super veteran, close up to one and with the same attributes. Lovely head and good construction throughout, he is just so well balanced. He moved out well keeping a level topline.
3rd Millington’s Carneval of Golden Duck-Cobey at Jarabees VW(IMPSRB)
SPECIAL WORKING DOG – 4(1)
1ST Savage’s Ch/IR Sh Ch Weisford Guilty As Sin (ATC AY139731KC) – Well balanced dog with an attractive chiselled head and kindly expression. He has a lovely front with good length and angulation of upperarm. Short coupled and with plenty depth throughout he moved out well from good hind angulation. Beautifully presented in hard condition and gleaming mid gold coat, he was a strong contender for top honours.
2nd Williams Berrymeade Kilternan of Bushyhall SGWC - Nice head and gentle expression. Straight front and good bend of stifle. Slightly longer and not so deep chested as 1. Moved well
3rd Rose & Neil’s Gildas Amori Infiniti

1ST Smith’s Rocamoka Harbour Light – 6 ½ month pale boy with pleasing head and lovely dark pigment. He has a good straight front and a nice reach of neck. Good tight feet and well bent stifle. He moved out steadily and confidently
PUPPY DOG – 6(2) A lovely class of puppies, not much to separate them
1ST Jackson-Haines Leighsham The Cheeky Elf – Have admired this young man from the ringside and he didn’t disappoint. He presents such a balanced package, and he has the most beautiful head with a dark eye and gentle expression. His front assembly is excellent with a lovely reach of neck that flows on to a level topline with a good tailset carried level on the move. He has a nice length of neck and good shoulder placement. Lovely turn of stifle and well let down hocks. Close up to winner but felt that his movement, though correct, was not quite so positive.
OPEN DOG – 9(1) This class gave me a bit of a headache, so many lovely dogs and not enough cards!
1ST Loverock & Waldron-Smith’s Sh Ch Thornywait Space Cowboy At Lovissa JW – This lad caught my eye on my initial look round the ring and his outline was everything I was looking for. For me he just epitomises Breed Standard. He has the most gorgeous head with eyes you could look into all day! A shame his nose has lost a bit of pigment but I forgave him that.
