Berkshire Downs and Chilterns Golden Retriever Club – Dogs.
3rd November 2024
Special Veteran (4, 0 abs)
1st Loverock and Waldron-Smith’s Lovissa Space Dust ShCM, VW. BVIS.
In profile this mid gold coated dog looked a picture, outline so well balanced with good length of neck, level top line, level tail set and well bent stifle. Felt good to go over, evident breastbone, excellent spring and depth of rib, short strong loin, well boned legs. Considered for top honours, but just would have preferred tidier front movement.
2nd Millington’s Carneval Of Golden Duck-Cobey at Jarabees VW (imp SRB).
Another eye catching outline, this time of a cream coated male. So very well presented and handled. In hard condition, and this showed in his excellent movement, with great forward reach and drive from behind. Loved his head, length of muzzle in perfect balance with length of skull. Strong neck flowing to pleasing body properties, tail straight off back and carried well, good length and lay of shoulder, good bend of stifle. Not quite the forechest of 1st.
3rd Roper’s Catnnels Inside Story for Brensham SGWC, VW
Minor Puppy (5, 1 abs)
1st Taylor & Teague’s Trewater Watson at Goldrealm.
Well put together 6 month old cream, will take time, but could not be denied his 1st place here. Won on his long striding true movement, excellent rib cage with good length and depth, short strong loin. I also liked his head shape and warm expression, he had good straight bone and tight feet. Good length of leg, good reach in front and drive from behind. Responded well to his kind handler, was animated and keen to please.
2nd Marshall’s Cadwst Spring River.
Cream coated with balanced outline, good length of neck, excellent shoulders and stifles to match. Pleasing body properties, good spring of rib, short coupled, good bone and cat like feet, well handled. Needs to tighten in pastern and settle on the move, but he is only a baby at 7 months old, there is plenty of time yet, and he shows promise.
3rd Fullerton’s Berrymeade Fortune Teller.
Puppy (9, 1 abs)
1st Jackson-Haines’ Leighsham The Cheeky Elf JW. RCC. BPIS.
Very promising gold coloured. Has the straightest of fronts both standing and on the move. Attractive head with balanced properties, slightly rounded skull, good length and depth of muzzle, dark eye with kind expression. Ideal length of neck to excellent layback of shoulder and equal return of upper arm. Pronounced breastbone and firm chest with good depth through brisket, good bone and well padded round feet. Well sprung ribs, short firm loin, broad rump, well bent stifle, plenty of width across thigh, hind pasterns short, and parallel from behind. Expertly handled.
2nd Wooden’s Amilone Smokin Barrel.
Really good movement with excellent forward reach on this cream coated 10 month old. Balanced outline with good length of neck, angulation equal at both ends, ideal rib cage with good depth to body, good bone, tight feet. Well shaped head, warm and intelligent expression, very nicely handled, beautiful presentation.
3rd Etherington’s Elkarima’s Golden Renaissance Raffielo of Gemasu.
Junior (9, 2 abs)
1st Oughton’s Carubelo Live The Dream JW.
What a lovely kind eye this light golden coloured boy has, and a melting expression. Clean neck, very good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm, excellent bone, well sprung ribs, tail straight off level back. Feet could be tighter, and he needs to drop into stifles, but he has time on his side to develop further. Expert handling and beautiful presentation.
2nd Porter’s Shearstone Janner.
Golden coated dog built on a heavier frame than 1st, he is balanced in outline, has good bone, firm cat-like feet. Clean neck of good length, well placed shoulders, ideal width of chest, and pleasing spring of rib. Broad rump and short hind pasterns. Another one who is going through that Junior stage where he needs to drop into his stifles. Very well handled and was eager to please.
3rd Foreman’s Ambersun Summer Son.
Yearling (7, 3 abs)
1st Zubair & Loach’s Thornywait Royal Rebel.
Dark gold double coat, clean and well presented. Attractive shape to head with appealing expression and dark pigment. Strong clean neck set smoothly into pleasing lay back of shoulder and equal return of upper arm, deep through brisket, well boned straight legs, tight well padded feet. Excellent spring of rib, well ribbed back and plenty of depth of body which balanced well with length of leg. Moved with long active stride, good reach in front and drive from behind, straight legs coming towards and going away, handled to advantage Appealed in many ways and was considered for the RCC but decisions have to be made, just would have preferred an inch less length of loin.
2nd Middleton-Collins’ Berrymeade A Fool In Love of Jasperleigh JW.
Very well presented gold coloured coated male who was a bit proud of his tail today. Plenty of heart room, pleasing width and depth of body, good spring of rib, level top line, would prefer slightly more length of croup, tail set on slightly lower than back. Good length of leg, straight legs and good bone, strong front pasterns and firm cat-like feet. Well muscled hind quarters, covered the ground well, at one with his handler.
3rd Hearn’s Kentishgold Robin Hood with Susielougold.
Maiden (5, 2 abs)
1st Smith’s Rocamoka Harbour Light.
Was 4th in Puppy, but was more settled here, and deserved his 1st place. Balanced in profile and has a good head with dark pigment, and lovely tight feet. A firm backend with good muscle tone helped him to drive round the ring with an easy stride. Well presented cream coat and sympathetically handled.
2nd Layland’s Applecote Christmas Magic.
Happy to be in the ring, and eager to please his accomplished handler. Well proportioned height to length ratio, fit and in hard condition. Clean neck of good length to well angled shoulders, straight front legs and upright on his pasterns, well ribbed back and pleasing turn of stifle. Would prefer a slightly stronger muzzle and more forechest.
3rd Butler’s Tamararose Cedar (ATC FRA).
Novice (11, 4 abs)
1st Linfield’s Tonara Yellowstone.
Was 4th in Junior, appealed here for accurate and level movement, short hind pasterns allowed him to drive well, this was picked up by good reach in front. Melting expression from kind eye, clean neck, deep rib cage with good spring, firm muscular loin, broad rump. Good bone and neat feet but would prefer more strength in front pasterns. Beautifully presented light golden coat.
2nd Hearn’s K Robin Hood with S.
Was 3rd in Yearling. Attentive to sympathetic handler, had clean and well presented golden coloured coat, was happy to be in the ring. Attractive head with balanced properties, skull and muzzle of equal length, intelligent expression. Well laid shoulders, good bone, pleasing turn of stifle. Needs to tighten in front pasterns and I would prefer a cleaner neck
3rd Layland’s A Christmas Magic.
Undergraduate (8, 3 abs)
1st Linfield’s T Yellowstone.
2nd Todd’s Van Gogh Of Sunshine’s Valley with Toddrosa (imp BEL), JW.
Well coated cream coloured dog with compact outline. Angulation was balanced at each end but did not quite have the reach and drive of 1st today. Medium length of neck, level top line, good depth and spring of rib cage. Very well presented, beautifully handled, was straight coming and going.
3rd Layland’s A Christmas Magic.
Graduate (12, 3 abs)
1st Birkin-Green & Gripton’s Sansue Love Flame.
Excellent shoulders, upper arms, level top line and very good length and spring of rib with short muscular loin and good bend of stifle won him this class. Quality dog built on a larger frame, pleasing masculine head, melting expression, equal angulation fore and aft, movement level and true, drove from short hind pasterns. Beautifully presented cream coloured coat, well schooled and expertly handled. In the challenge for CC and RCC would just have preferred tidier front movement.
2nd Loach & Zubair’s Putjade Poldark.
A different type to 1st but appealed in many ways. This dark golden boy had really good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm, excellent turn of stifle and plenty of width across thigh. Good spring of rib, strong back end, short hind pasterns, tight cat like feet. Beautifully presented, at one with his handler. Another who was well schooled and expertly handled. Just preferred head and neck of 1st.
3rd Pratt’s Rosyth Keltic Lord JW.
Post Graduate (7, 3 abs)
1st Archer’s Haydengold Just A Rumour at Sunandair JW.
This well balanced dog really took my eye, he moved freely, with accurate foot fall, I liked his outline with strong top line, impressive lay of shoulder and turn of stifle. Angulation equal at both ends, plenty of depth through brisket, good bone, tight cat like feet, pleasing rib cage in length, spring and depth, short firm loin, short hind pasterns. Clean, well presented mid golden coat, I loved his expression from kind and intelligent eye, muzzle a bit finer than some, and neck not as clean.
2nd Pounds-Longhurst’s Mossburn Galloping Major JW.
Lovely balanced head, skull slightly rounded, good stop, lots of work below eyes, pleasing length and depth of muzzle, endearing expression from dark eye, black pigment. Clean neck, very good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm, straight legs with good bone, neat feet. Excellent body proportions, well sprung ribs, short loin, well muscled back end and tail set ok. Good turn of stifle and muscular thighs, steady mover, straight coming towards and going away. Sympathetically handled.
3rd Cooper’s Amilone Corsendonk at Dikedaze.
Mid Limit (11, 3 abs)
1st Foreman’s Ambersun Alive And Kicking.
Cream coated dog who was very well presented and sympathetically handled. A gentle boy who obviously adores his handler, together they make a great team. Balanced head, kind expression, clean neck, straight front, tight cat like feet. Rib cage with good length, depth and spring, short loin, tail set on slightly low, well turned stifle, short hind pasterns. Didn’t always stand with level top line, moved very well.
2nd Millington’s Golmas Guard Of Honour at Jarabees JW.
Masculine head on this mid golden coloured dog, clear sparkling eyes with melting expression. The picture of health and in hard condition which showed as he moved round the ring. Medium length of neck, level top line, impressive rib cage with good spring and depth, short firm loin, very good bone and well padded cat-like feet. Beautifully presented double coat, expertly handled, preferred slightly cleaner neck and better turn of stifle of 1st.
3rd Main’s Denmarella Mr Bright Skies over Gwyngala.
Limit (10, 2 abs)
1st Norris’ Fenpinque Magnum Opus at Molestream JW.
Clean outline on this well balanced cream coated male, liked length to height proportions. Dark expressive eye, medium length of neck to well laid shoulders and equal return of upper arm, bend of stifle to match, straight front, really good feet. Level top line, short couplings, tail straight off back, pleasing rib cage with good spring, firm back end. Hind pasterns slightly longer than ideal, not quite in full coat, but well presented. Had a gentle disposition, careful handler got the best from him, natural carriage on the move with accurate footfall.
2nd White’s Ninell Indiana Jones of Alandiagold.
Appealed for good length of shoulder blade, straight front, strong upright pasterns, tight cat-like feet. Melting expression from attractive dark eye, well ribbed back, good spring of rib, ideal tail set, plenty of width across thigh, good bend of stifle, short strong hind pasterns. Moved very well with drive from behind and good reach in front. Neck of good length but could be cleaner. Well presented cream double coat. At one with his sympathetic handler, together they make a great team.
3rd Barber’s Messano Just Good Friends with Swansreach.
Open (10, 1 abs)
1st McGeoch’s Nedlezah Lochlea. CC. RBIS. BOS. Well co-ordinated movement
Balanced from every angle, straight legs all round, strong pasterns back and front, well padded cat-like feet. Loved his overall length to height proportions, length of leg equal to depth of brisket. Gentle head, skull slightly rounded, muzzle equal in length to length of skull, kind expression. Medium length of neck to level top line, impressive spring of rib, short strong couplings, tail straight off back and carried level on the move. Angles equal at each end, well bent stifles and lots of width across thigh. Fit and well muscled throughout, effortless movement with long ground covering stride and accurate footfall. Well presented mid golden coat with dense undercoat. I found out later this was his 3rd CC! Congratulations!

Cream coated male with slightly finer bone than 1st, has a beautifully balanced outline, good length of clean neck, excellent shoulders, level top line, good length and spring of rib, short firm loin, well bent stifles and strong wide thighs. Moved exceptionally well with power and drive in profile, just would have preferred a tidier front. Beautifully presented and very well handled.

1st Williams’ Berrymeade Coeur Blimey at Busheyhall SGWC, WGC.

Liked his head shape, intelligent expression from kind eye, strong level top line, well sprung ribs reaching well back, muscular loin, firm hind quarters, good turn of stifle, short hind pasterns, neat feet. Well presented mid golden coloured double coat.

Slightly rounded skull, alert and eager to please, good length of neck, straight legs, well sprung ribs with plenty of depth, level top line, correct tail set, well padded cat-like feet. In hard condition, fit, well muscled, active movement with true footfall. Well presented mid golden coat, expertly handled. Would just have preferred more substance and a slightly darker eye.
