AYRSHIRE COLLIE CLUB

5TH OCT 2024

Thank you to the club for inviting me to judge the Rough Dogs at your well-run show.

Even though the entry was small there was quality to be found. Two things to worry about, one was the number of overshot mouths and the other was short tails.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (2,1)

1ST MCCARTE’S ROUGHRIGG RAGS ‘N’ RICHES A golden sable pup of almost 9mths. He has so much character just as a pup of this age should be! Masculine head, well balanced and moulded. Correctly placed stop and kind eye. Flat skull, nicely tipped and well used ears. Good dentation and underjaw. Adequate length of neck, good lay of shoulder, solid topline with slight rise over the loin, well balanced from front to back. He was groomed to perfection. One with a bright future, I’m sure. I could easy take him home! BPD & BPIS

PUPPY DOG (2,0)

1ST HARRIS’S GEOSAMKA LOVES TO LOVE AT ITHILIEN 11mths sable. Head handles well, almond shape eye, correct stop. Finer in bone but has a good balanced collie shape. Moved ok when settled.

2nd TIPPER’S TIGANLEA TURNED TO BLACK Tri boy who took my eye as he entered the ring but sadly wasn’t going to show today. He has a lovely eye and expression, jet black coat and strong bone. Would love to see again once settled.

JUNIOR DOG (4,0)

1ST TURNER’S PAULARA BLAZE OF GLORY An eye-catching boy with a wealth of golden coat. Head handles well but a little fine for me. King eye and expression. Good neck and topline, balanced front and rear, giving him the power to move soundly around the ring.

2ND BROOKER’S STARLENGA ALL ABOUT MAJIC FOR CORISIAN Shaded sable boy. Smart lad but a little short in back for me. Nice head, good expression, would like ears tighter on top. Handled and presented well.

3rd KOURIKA THE GIGOLO

GRADUATE DOG (3,0)

1ST MITCHELL’S AVONFAIR ALOYSIUS JW A very eye catching golden sable boy. Head handles really well, smoothly moulded throughout with correct stop and sweet eye, maybe a little rounder compared to some but does not spoil his soft expression. Good front assembly and rear drive. Will watch his future with interest.

2nd MASON’S TIGANLEA SO TRUE AT GLENSPEY Shaded sable who was a little unsettled today. Has nice clean head, good ears, well placed. He has a good length of body but is carrying a little extra weight which spoiled his movement.

3rd THISTLEWIGG FIRE DANCER AT BRYANY.

POST GRADUATE DOG (5,1)

1ST HOULIHAN’S KOURIKA FROSTED ICE Lovely BM that catches your eye. He has a nice shape but I would prefer a little more balance to complete the picture. Love his head and expression, muzzle nicely rounded, well-placed stop and the kindest of eye. Carrying a wealth of coat. Move ok.

2nd SHORTEN’S THISTLEWINGS ANDROMEDA AT BRACOISLA Golden sable with a kind expression. Would like him to bring his ears up more. Good shoulders and length of back. Presented in good clean condition.

3rd INGLEDENE DARK MOON RISIN OVER DETILLIO

LIMIT DOG (4,1)

1ST HODGES’ JOPIUM LOVE ON THE ROCKS Gorgeous tri colour. Yes, a little smaller than I usually like but absolutely nothing feminine about him at all. Melting expression coming from the desired combination of rounded muzzle, flat skull, well placed stop and dark well shaped eye, this topped with neat ears. Maybe a tiny bit more neck would be perfection but his excellent lay back of shoulder and matching turn of stifle give him that balance to really flow around the ring. His jet-black coat against his gleaming whites, plus strong bone all came together to give me that extra look at me sparkle I was looking for. CC & RBOB

2ND HOWARD’S LADNAR DREAM CHASER BM boy who needs time to settle into himself. Nice clean head, well balanced, used ears well but can be a little light. Lovely body shape. Well presented.

3rd THISTLEWING FIRE DANCER AT BRYANY

OPEN DOG (6,1)

1ST COLLINS’ TRIBURLE BLUEBOLERO One I have admired from afar but sadly today was not in the mood to pull out all the stops. His all-out quality could not be denied! Very reluctant to use his ears but his true collie expression was there to see. Lovely smooth moulding and flat skull. His body shape just flows from the top of his head down to his well carried tail. Excellent lay of shoulder, return of upper arm, straight well boned legs, good depth of rib, matching bend of stifle. Moved out well RCC

2ND BLAIKIE’S KOURIKA YOU’LL DO FOR ME Another I like very much. Very similar to one. Balanced head, kind expression, good height to length ratio, moves well.

3rd CH. ROUGHRIGG RAG’N’BONE MAN.

VETERAN DOG (2,0)

1ST WATT’S CULBRAE RED AGAIN This golden sable reminded me of the older type collies. Big upstanding boy with a lovely coat. Moved very well.

2nd PROCTOR’S WILMARANNA OUT OF THE BLUE FOR CATHBRI A smaller dog than one but still has a nice outline and moves well.
