Breed: English Toy Terrier (Black & Tan)

LKA CH show 2024 ETT (Black & Tan)

My eighth time awarding CCs to the breed, a numerically strong entry but still quite a challenge as type varied so much, particularly heads, with some narrow almost tubular shaped with large round eyes to rather broad and everything in between. A number of dogs were rather shy and need more confidence and socialising so they are not overwhelmed when they get to a large noisy show. Tails seem to be a bit of problem, quite a few carrying them high on the move which does spoil the flowing outline. That said, an enjoyable appointment and I was pleased with my main winners and good to see some promising youngsters with hopefully bright futures ahead.

MPD (4,1abs)

1. Roskell and Wood’s Nasabe Special Brew In Rahima. This lad scored well on his co-ordinated movement, sound out and back, I would have liked a lower tail carriage on the move. Nice overall type with an attractive long wedge shaped head, dark almond eyes and high set ears. Deep chest and good length of rib. Shown in lovely coat and condition with rich tans, his legs are heavier marked.

2. Pendlebury’s Ettology Small Gods Of Pendlethrine. Preferred the size of this promising lad, he hasn’t quite got the confidence of winner yet and was just tucking up on the stack. Handsome wedge shaped head with the darkest of almond eyes and well placed ears. Good front, ample neck, his topline rises gently from behind the shoulder with pleasing rear angulation and low set tail. Thick glossy coat with rich tans and clear markings. Moved quite well, his side gait shows he has good reach and drive

3. Warren’s Rhymswell Fields Of Gold

PD (2)

1. Oakden and Conway’s Spawood Hey Mickey. An attractive pup whose head I preferred being more wedge shaped, ears are held high and his small very dark almond shaped eyes give a keen alert expression.  Nice straight front, deep chest and good length of rib and well angulated rear. Nicely conditioned body topped off with a thick glossy coat and rich tans with faint thumbprints. Once settled, he was sound out and back, would like a bit more extension in front.

2. Dixon’s Lasagesse Dazed N' Confused. Masculine head, although I would like a bit more width to his back skull, well-shaped ears set high and dark almond eyes. Good front, slight arch to neck, compact in body with gentle curve from behind shoulders and well angulated hindquarters. Shown in lovely condition with dense glossy coat with rich tans and clear markings with defined thumbprints. Seemed a little unsettled today so didn’t make the most of himself on the move, I saw glimpses of good reach and drive, I would have liked a lower tail carriage on the move.

JD (3)

1. Cadman and Jarvis’ Pippahouse Tiny Shaddow. This nicely constructed boy had the edge in this class as he was sporting the best coat and body condition and had a pleasing curvy outline. Attractive wedge shaped head, well set on ears, with very dark almond eyes giving a keen expression. Straight front, deep chest good spring of rib with gentle curve to his top line and well angulated rear. Moved soundly with good drive from behind and some extension in front.

 2. Fiers’ Lokeren Brooks Yonas. This lad is good for size, needing a bit more substance to his body which would aid his outline and shape. Nice headpiece with just enough width to his back skull to give a wedge shape appearance, correct ear set and almond shaped dark eyes. Good front, deep chest and well bent stifles. Rich tans and clear markings with defined thumbprints. Sound going away and back, I would like to see more extension in front.

3. Forsythe, Pevy and Leonards’ Witchstone Won't Be Silent By Richpin

PGD (7,1abs)

1. Partington-Palmer and Palmer’s Etruria Hear The Word. This lad has a pleasing and typical profile and ideal for size. I liked his well-balanced wedge shaped head, well placed ears and dark eyes of good shape. Good front, slight arch to neck, compact in body with gentle curve to his topline, well-muscled hindquarters and low set tail. Shown in lovely coat and condition with rich tans. He seemed a little unsettled on the stack, but once he moved, he soon settled and scored well on his co-ordinated movement with good drive from behind and extension in front.

2. Roskell’s Witchstone Silent Wish With Rahima. Different type to winner and a touch longer in body. He also seemed little unsettled on the stack but soon relaxed once he started moving, sound out and back, with good drive from behind, not quite the reach in front of the winner. Masculine head, although I would like a bit more width to his back skull to give a better wedge shape, well-shaped ears set high and dark eyes. Straight front with good depth of chest and well angulated rear. Dense glossy coat with rich tans, his legs are heavier marked.

3. Keylock and Collins’ Lasagesse Paint It Black.

LD (6,2abs)

1. Wines’ Etruria Say The Word. My star find today, this classy boy caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring, with a lovely shape when stood and moving, very pleasing for breed type, he reminded me of the Reeberrich ETTs. Loved his neat and balanced wedge shaped head with ears of good size and shape with the darkest of almond shaped eyes. Elegant neck, compact in body, good ribs and well- developed hindquarters. Shown in good condition with glossy jacket, rich tans and clear markings with defined thumbprints. He scored well on his co-ordinated movement and looked good in profile with his fluid and easy extended trot. Delighted to award him DCC and BOB. I was told afterwards that this was his second CC, I hope his third is not far off.

2. Inch’s Edalene Upside Down JW. Taller nicely balanced boy with a curvy outline. Strong masculine wedge shaped head, a touch broad for me and his ears are set just a little wide apart. Small almond shaped dark eyes giving a keen alert expression. Good front with a deep and narrow chest, ample neck into well laid shoulders and nicely angulated rear. Shown in lovely condition with thick glossy coat, tans could be a little richer in colour. Carried himself well on the move, sound out and back showing some extension in profile.

3. Taylor’s Neerodan Faithful Fergus

OD (7)

1. Imrie’s Ch Witchstone Black Hawk At Amalric JW. A quality dog, good for size and has a pleasing shapely profile. Masculine and nicely balanced wedge shaped head, ears held high and small almond shaped dark eyes all giving a keen alert expression. Elegant neck, compact in body, good ribs and well-muscled hindquarters. Shown in fit condition with a lovely glossy coat with rich tans, his legs are more heavily marked. Carried himself well on the move which gave him the edge in this class, sound out and back and his side gait clearly shows he has a true extended trot with good drive from behind, would like a lower tail carriage on the move. In the challenge, I just preferred the more flowing outline and head of the limit class winner. Happy to award him the RDCC.

2. Forsythe and Pevy’s Kikuchi Hollywood Avec Richpin JW. Another lovely boy, close up and many similar attributes to the winner, good for size and has a shapely profile. I liked his well-balanced wedge shaped head, dark eyes and well placed ears and keen expression. Ample neck with slight arch, compact in body with gentle curve to his top line, deep chest and well ribbed, pleasing rear angulation and low set tail. In between coats at the moment which pegged him back a place, he has rich tans and clear markings with defined thumbprints. He scored well on his co-ordinated movement and looked good in profile showing a low and fluid extended trot.

3. Imrie’s Amalric Butch Cassidy JW

SBD (2)

1. Pendlebury’s Ettology Small Gods Of Pendlethrine- see MP notes

VD/B (4,2abs )

1. Francis and Baltchford's Ch Witchstone Not Apache On Me For Peopleton VW. Have judged this boy in the past and awarded him highly and he still has lots to commend him, yes he’s on the tallish side but you can’t fault his movement as he goes around the ring with a low and fluid extended trot, one of the few in the entry today who clearly demonstrated this breed requirement. Masculine well-balanced wedge shaped head, high set ears and dark eyes of good shape. Good front, slight arch to neck, compact in body with gentle curve to his topline and well-muscled hindquarters. Shown in lovely coat and condition with well defined rich tans. He looks the part with terrier attitude and is certainly fit for function. Best Veteran in Breed

2. Inch’s Edalene Never Let Me Go VW. Pretty girl, very feminine I liked her size and shapely profile. Feminine long wedge head, with well set on correctly shaped ears and dark eye. Straight front legs, nice neck with slight arch, with gentle curve to her top line, deep ribs and a low set tail. Shown in lovely condition with thick glossy coat, tans could be a little richer in colour but they are well defined. Carried herself well on the move, not quite the extension in from of the winner, but sound all directions.

3. Fiers’ Thalcyon Springtime Star

MPB (3)

1. Haffenden and Wood’s Nasabe Devils Brew. Liked the size and shape of this girl, when stacked her body is a lovely curvy shape topped off with a thick glossy coat, rich tans and defined thumbprints. Long head, would like a touch more breath to her back skull, but she has plenty of time to develop further and dark almond eyes. Good front, elegant neck with slight arch, and well bent stifles. Sound going away and back, would like a slightly lower tail carriage on the move.

2. Leonard’s Witchstone Limited Edition. Feminine girl at the smaller end of the breed standard range, but not in any way too fine as she has plenty of substance for her frame. Lovely wedge shaped head, well-shaped ears set on correctly with dark expressive eyes. Good front assembly, ample neck and well laid shoulders and good rear angulation. Shown in lovely condition with thick glossy coat, well defined rich tans with faint thumb prints. On the go around her side gait shows she has good reach and drive, just tending to flatten her topline.

3. Phillips’ Ettology Interesting Times

PB (4)

1. Dixon’s Lasagesse Kashmir. Very attractive and quality girl with a pleasing shapely outline. Elegant in appearance and put down in super condition, thick glossy coat, richest of well defined tans and faint thumbprints. Feminine wedge shaped head, well shaped ears and very dark small almond eyes giving her a keen expression. Nice straight front, well laid shoulders and a well angulated rear. Well schooled and carried herself very well on the move, sound all ways with good drive and reach. BPIB, delighted to see her take Puppy group 2.

2. Hall’s Spawood Proud Mary With Ghilgrange. Nice sized girl with a pretty head of quite good shape, darkest of eyes and well shaped ears set high. Slight arch to her neck, compact in body and well angulated hindquarters. In good coat with rich tans. Not as coordinated or as confident on move as winner, a touch wide coming on and would like a little lower tail carriage.  She’s going to need plenty of time to develop.

JB (2)

1. Love’s Lasagesse Whole Lotta Love With Tettoy. A quality girl, pleasing size and showing elegance in her shapely outline, topped off by a glossy coat and richly well defined tans. Very feminine wedge shaped head, candle flame ears which were well set and dark almond dark eyes. Nice straight front, ample neck leading to well laid shoulders, and well angulated hindquarters. Well schooled and confident on the move, showing good reach and drive. In the challenge for best puppy just pipped by her slightly more mature sister in PB class, I’m sure we’ll be hearing more from these two promising sisters.

2. Cadman and Jarvis’ Pippahouse Angelic Soul.

PGB (6)

1. Dean-Armitt’s Twowayshouse Touch Of Class. A pretty girl, she appealed for her size and shapely profile. Feminine long wedge shaped head, dark almond eyes with a keen expression, well set on correctly shaped ears. Straight front, nice neck with slight arch, deep ribs and well angulated rear. Shown in lovely condition with rich tans and well defined thumbprints. Moved soundly on the go around, would like a little more front extension.

2. Goodfellow’s Nasabe Royal Rose Airambech.   Similar size to winner with quite a different head being a bit longer in the muzzle, so not quite as balanced, lovely dark eyes and ears set on well. She has a pleasing shapely outline, ample neck, good lay of shoulder and well angulated hindquarters. Shown in lovely condition with well defined rich tans and thumbprints. Carried herself well on the move.

3. Cadman and Jarvis’ Gillings Don’t Tella at Pippahouse

LB (6)

1. Whitehouse’s Amalric Coco Chanel With Dalmonde JW. Attractive quality girl who stood out for me in this class. Spot on for size with a lovely curvy outline. Elegant all through and put down in super condition. Feminine wedge shaped head, well shaped ears set on correctly with dark almond eyes giving an alert keen expression. Straight front legs, compact in body with curves in all the right places, well angulated hind quarters and low set tail. Shown in super condition with rich tans, heavier marked legs. Scored well on her movement, sound both ways with good reach and drive. Happy to award her the RBCC

2. Inch’s Edalene Scoops Ahoy. A pretty girl, I liked her size and shapely profile. She has a feminine wedge shaped head, with well set on correctly shaped ears and small dark eyes.  She has a straight front, deep chest and good length of rib. Body in super condition with a gentle curve to her top line, good turn of stifle and overall muscle tone, all topped off with a glossy coat and rich well defined tans. Once she settled and concentrated she moved out well and her side gait showed she has good reach and drive.

3. Dicker’s Moretonia Golden Girl At Neerodan JW

OB (7)

1. Haffenden and Wood’s Ch Nasabe Play The Game JW. An eye-catching quality girl who for me was an easy winner of this class. She has so much to commend, from her size, compactness and elegant shape topped off with a thick glossy coat, rich well defined tans, her legs are heavier marked. Feminine wedge shaped head, dark almond eyes and candle flame ears set on high. Straight front, deep chest good spring of rib with a nicely angulated rear. She scored well on the move, confident, sound out and back with some extension in front . Proper little show girl too. Happy to award her the BCC.

2. Ramsden and & Kagzi’s Ch Pallisandre Pocahontas. Another attractive and attentive showgirl of pleasing size with a lovely curvy outline. Pretty wedge shaped head, would like a slightly more almond shape to her dark eyes, well set on ears of good shape. Ample neck leading into well placed shoulders, good depth of chest and nicely angulated rear. Shown in lovely condition with rich tans. Carried herself well on the move, sound out and back with good drive from behind and some reach in front. Called her in for another look for RBCC, just s preferred the head and expression of the LB winner.

3. Francis, Blatchford and Leonards’ Ch Witchstone Trouble Brewing At Peopleton JW

GCB (1)

1. Hancocks and Bailey’s Witchstone Silent Whisper.  Good for size and has a shapely outline in profile. Her head  whilst wedge shaped, it is a touch strong for me, lovely dark almond eyes and well set on ears. Ample neck, straight front with good depth of chest good and nicely angulated fore and aft. Shown in good body condition, with rich tans. Sound on the go around, just felt she could have made a bit more of herself on the move as she didn’t seem to have the reach or drive from behind today.

SBB (4)

1. Dean -Armitt’s Twowayshouse Touch Of Class. Repeat, see previous notes, secured her win by virtue of her size, shape and head properties. Best Special Beginners in Breed.

2. Johnson’s Moretonia Royal Wren. Similar size to winner and a pleasing shapely outline, shown in good body condition, just seemed a little in between coats at the moment. Pretty wedge shaped head, dark eyes and well set on ears. Ample neck into well laid shoulders, good depth of chest and nicely angulated rear. Moved out soundly on the go around with good drive from behind and some reach in front.
