The Northern Pug Dog Club Ch Show 3/11/2024- Males

Thank you to the committee for their kind invitation to judge the males at the show today, I thoroughly enjoyed my day with you all. I thought the quality was very good and I had several dogs in the challenge as well as some 2nd places that could of easily of taken a CC. I had no major concerns for health today, the hall got a bit warm as the day went on and the dogs coped really well. Just a couple of things to mention which I hope will help, some dogs were quite difficult to assess on the table as they were continually being fed, can you please reward with a treat after your dog has been assessed on the table and moved, and I felt that some pugs were rushing around the ring, a slightly slower pace would enable the ‘purposeful and steady movement and slight unexaggerated roll from the hindquarters’ as required by the breed standard, to be shown to better advantage.

Baby P (1)

1. Ashton’s Zobear’s Enigma.  Lovely fawn baby of nearly 5 months with black mask and fine wrinkle to his head. I liked his size and cobby profile. Attractive head, dark round eye and good breadth to his underjaw. Ears are perhaps a little heavy at the moment but plenty of time for his head to develop. Decent forehand with strong bone and neat feet. Well balanced quarters with high set double curled tail and sporting a soft fine coat. Moved soundly on the go around and with confidence for one so young, just lifting his front legs a touch high at the moment. Best Baby PD.

VD (1)

1. McAleny’s Ch MacMoore Mr Tambourine Man JW ShCM. Masculine 8 year old fawn with a super head, black mask and well defined fine wrinkle to his head. Clear round dark eyes, well pigmented ears and healthy open nostrils. Plenty of bone and substance giving a pleasing outline. Deep chest, with well sprung ribs, strong well angulated rear and a high set well curled tail. In super condition, topped off with a clear fine soft coat. Scored highly on the move, moving out soundly with purpose. Delighted to award him BVD and pleased that he later took BVIS.

MPD (1)

1. Arnold-Strange’s Snugglepug Bee On The Ball. 8 month old fawn youngster, with black mask, well pigmented head with fine wrinkles and neat ears and round dark expressive eyes. I would just like a touch more width of underjaw. Liked his square and cobby outline, strong bone, straight front legs and neat feet. Good spring of ribs, well angulated rear and high set tail, topped off with a fine soft coat. He moved around the ring really well and soundly in all directions.

PD (2)

1. O’Leary’s Haselorhill First Edition from Mopszawawa. Two very nice puppies, just preferred the winner’s more cobby and compact balanced outline. Pale clear fawn boy with a black mask and plenty of fine well pigmented wrinkle to his head, round dark eyes with hint of mischief, ears could settle a little, good width of muzzle and healthy open nostrils. Strong neck with slight arch, straight forelegs tucked under his body, ribs well sprung and carried back, high set well curled tail and a good turn of stifle. Sound on the move with typical roll at rear, and a delightfully cheeky character showing much promise. Delighted to award him BPD and pleased that he took BPIS.

2. Ellis’s Eastonite Nigel Is Naughty. Darker fawn boy with a super head with neat ears, fine wrinkle, dark expressive eyes and nice width of muzzle. Liked his bone and substance, strong straight front legs, and neat feet. Strong neck leading to well sloped shoulders and secure topline. At the moment he appears a little longer in body and lower on the leg than the winner. Beautiful coat, soft short and fine.  Moved out positively with typical action.

JD (5,1abs)

1. Lunam’s Anzhela Scent Jude. Attractive fawn boy with a nicely balanced cobby square outline. Pleasing masculine head, clear dark round eyes, plenty of wrinkles without bring overdone and a nicely padded muzzle. Broad chest, strongly boned legs with neat feet, tucked under his body. Short coupled body, well ribbed, with high set well curled tail. His well muscled hindquarters and good angulations showed in his soundness and positive movement, all topped off with a fine glossy coat

2. Turnbull’s Nicobri’s Lord of The Rings JW. Similar sized fawn boy, lovely chunky body with plenty of bone and substance. Masculine head and expression, large dark eyes, well pigmented fine wrinkle, dark expressive eyes, small button ears and nicely padded muzzle. Broad chest, strongly boned legs with neat feet. Short coupled body, well ribbed, level topline with high set well curled tail, topped off with a fine glossy coat. Moved out confidently with plenty of drive from behind. Just ever so slightly preferred the ears and ear set of the winner today but a close run thing.

3. Cannon & Birch’s Flashnik Alcopop.

YD (3)

1. McAleny's Cedilla On The Road Again at MacMoore JW. Another quality male with a lovely balanced profile. He has a super head and expression, well defined wrinkles, neat ears and dark expressive eyes with good breadth to his muzzle and under jaw. Nicely arched neck, well laid shoulders, level topline, and very good hindquarters with well curled tail. Shown in great condition, with his smooth short and fine coat. Moved out with typical gait and sound as a bell which gave him the edge in this class.

2. Dawson-Payne & Mousley's Ch Judamie Elton’s Sun JW. Similar sized eye catching pale fawn boy with so much to admire. I liked his type very much and his overall well-balanced profile. Lovely head, large dark eyes, plenty of work and nicely padded muzzle giving a pleasing expression. Good bone and substance, straight front legs tucked under his body and neat feet. Nicely arched neck, level topline and well-muscled hindquarters, with a high set well single curled tail. Lovely plushy fine coat. Initially thought he would be my class winner and on the stack he certainly looked the part, just felt that he was rushing on the move and this appeared to unbalance his front movement a little.

3. Arnold-Strange’s Samlynryes Take A Chance with Snugglepug.

ND (7,3abs)

1.Cairns’ Anzhela Scent Francis. Attractive fawn boy with a cobby square outline. Super head with neat ears, fine well defined wrinkle, dark expressive eyes and nice width of muzzle. Lovely bone and substance, straight front legs and neat feet. 3. Cannon & Birch’s Flashnik Alcopop

PGD (4)

1. Walker’s Afterglow Wild West Hero at Sunlea JW. Eye catching dark fawn youngster with good black pigment, who appealed for his compact cobby outline. Liked his head, well balanced shape, with expressive dark eyes and well defined wrinkles but without any exaggeration, and wide muzzle with good underjaw. Strong legs and neat feet, well laid shoulders, good ribbing and high set well curled tail. His hindquarters are well muscled and strong which showed in his sound movement, covering the ground with ease. A willing, happy showman, presented in lovely coat and condition.

2. McAleny’s MacMoore Movin On. Slightly bigger built fawn boy, but all proportion. Masculine head, finely wrinkled, with dark expressive eyes and good breadth to muzzle and jaw. Nicely arched neck, well laid shoulders, level topline, and very good hindquarters with well curled tail, just a tad longer in loin than winner. Shown in lovely coat and condition. Moved out positively with strong rear action giving a typical unexaggerated roll.

3. Byrne’s Milucksin Million Bucks

LD (9,4abs)

1. Kirk’s Hattella Oleander. This pale fawn boy caught my attention as soon as he came into the ring. I liked his type very much and his and overall unexaggerated cobby and compact appearance. Loved his head, very dark pigment, fine wrinkle, neat ears, clear dark expressive eyes with good width to his muzzle and underjaw all giving a pleasing expression. Good front with legs set well under his body, nicely arched neck, good ribbing and well-muscled hindquarters, with a high set well curled tail. Shown in lovely coat and body condition. Quietly handed to get the very best out of him and moved at the right pace to demonstrate his purposeful and typical gait. Didn’t put a foot wrong and I was delighted to award him the DCC, later taking BOS.

2. Farnworth’s Judamie El St John by Ropanelie.   Another lovely boy with lots to admire, just not quite as compact as winner in profile. Masculine head with well-defined wrinkle with excellent pigment and large dark expressive eyes with good width to his muzzle and underjaw. Decent forehand, straight sturdy front legs, well laid shoulders, good ribbing, level topline and high set well curled tail, all topped off with a fine soft coat. Sound on the move, could perhaps be moved slightly slower to advantage.

OD (5,3abs)

1. Lee’s Tsuselena Pixel Perfect. I liked the size and cobby compact outline of this unexaggerated quality apricot boy. Attractive head, very well pigmented, round dark eyes, plenty of fine wrinkle and a wide muzzle and underjaw all giving a soft expression. Lovely bone and substance, straight front legs tucked under his body, and neat feet. Nicely arched strong neck, level topline, high set single curled tail. His hindquarters are well developed which showed in his soundness and positive movement on the go around. Shown in beautiful coat, short and plushy.

2. Byrne’s Movalian Don’t let Me Down at Milucksin. Mature boy built on much bigger lines than the winner and not quite as compact in profile being a touch longer in the loin. He has a large round masculine head, well pigmented mask, dark eyes and nicely wrinkled with good ear placement. Good bone and substance, thick strong neck, well laid shoulders, although he could carry a little less weight over his neck and shoulders to advantage. Well-developed hindquarters and high set tail. Once he settled and got into his stride, moved soundly.

SPO Black D (3)

1. Arnold-Strange’s Snugglepug In His Stride. I liked the size and compact square shape of this boy very much. Large head in proportion to his body, round skull, lovely dark and expressive eyes and with short and square muzzle. Nicely arched and strong neck leading to well laid shoulder and strong topline. Good rear angulation which he uses well on the move and ample bone in front Shown in great coat and condition. Had the edge in this class in terms of his movement, striding out with purpose with slight roll behind. Delighted to award him Best Black D and pleased that he later took Best Black in Show.

2. Burrows’ Eastonite Night Nero. Built on a bit bigger lines and didn’t look quite as compact as the winner in profile, he has plenty of bone and substance. Liked his head, large, round and masculine, neat ears, round dark eyes and good width of muzzle and underjaw. Strong straight front legs, rounded rib which gives him a good width of chest, level topline and a high set well curled tail. Glossy black single coat. Moved out well with good drive.

I loved his type and overall unexaggerated short and cobby well-balanced outline. Lovely head, large, masculine with large dark eyes with a hint of mischief, plenty of fine wrinkle and good width of muzzle and underjaw all giving a pleasing expression.
