Darlington Dog Show Society Ltd

Breed: Swedish Vallhund

Generally I find the breed is becoming lighter in bone and lower in the leg than the standard asks for: a “powerful, sturdily built dog …..,ratio 2:3”. Having judged the breed abroad, and seen many in Scandinavia, I felt type is being lost. Dogs were generally better quality than bitches.

VD no entries PD (2) 1. MCARDLE’s Starvon Get The Drinks In For Monascreebe, good size, and with excellent boned legs to oval tight feet. Pleasing angulation. Holds topline well, good depth chest, and length to rib. Forelegs well-fitting to chest. Good reach to neck, head is correct wedge, with lovely strength to muzzle and underjaw, not snipey at all. Flat skull between ears, lovely pigment and correct masking on head. Moved well and with confidence, promising puppy, BP & RCC. 2. HORSLEY’s Ruanticx Donkey Kong, much less mature, and needs more ring training to get best from him. Hard to assess as not confident with table, but owner should persist. Not the overall strength of bone, shown in good coat. Both owner and dog need little more practice. JD (2) 1. JONES’ Valltineya Red Redemption, lovely shape, and well boned legs to good pasterns. Firm top line, well matured in chest, with forelegs following ribs and has good angles front & rear. Pleasing wedge head, flat skull, slight stop to muzzle showing well developed under jaw. Considered for RCC, just felt pup has more rear drive on move. 2. HORTON’s Valltineya The Outlaw, litter brother, good bone, and top line. Not quite front angles of litter mate and this affects his front on stand and move. Less mature in head, flat skull with good ear, eye could be more oval. Preferred strength of muzzle of winner. PGD no entries LD no entries. OD (2 ) 1. PERRY & ETCHES’ Ch Starvon Easy On The I Edison, good size, well boned legs, and firm top line. Enough depth to chest, and forechest. Angulation behind is good but prefer more front angulation. Good reach of neck. Attractive masculine wedge head, flat skull, correct markings , oval eye. Ears used well. Stands 4 square and very alert and attentive to handler. Best mover of the day, 2. JONES’ Ch Tanellis Bloomin William, shade longer cast, strong bone. Tends to stand with hind legs tucked underneath, affecting balance in profile. Well coated. Well developed in chest. Skull is good with, dark oval eye. Prefer more strength to muzzle to give square appearance in profile and more underjaw. Moved somewhat erratically.

VB no entries PB (1,1) absent JB (2) 1. PALLATINA’s Valltineya Lasso Ur Dreams, well boned for a bitch, good outline and well developed chest. Topline tends to rise towards rump, little rump high, hopefully will level as matures. Good angulation in front, prefer little more behind. High set tail. Feminine head, skull has enough width and stop, uses ears well. Lovely pigment as expect on red. Just needs to mature in muzzle to compete picture. Moved soundly in all directions. 2. BOWEN-PARKER’s Valltineya's Wandering Star Among Parkbow, shade longer cast and not the bone of the winner. Good angulation behind, would prefer more in front. Good neck. Just needs to mature up and body up. Head is similar, being a little narrow through at the moment. Broad in chest. Not as strong on the move as winner. PGB (1) 1. CAMERON & WOODS’ Bowkol Awesome Yggdrasil, sufficient bone for a bitch, found she excels in angulation, and has super reach of neck. Well muscled throughout. Firm topline and good proportions in outline. Attractive wedge head good width to flat full and strong blunt muzzle with good jaw. Lovely eye for colour and shape. Not as showy on table as some but moved really well with plenty of drive. BCC. LB no entries OB (1) 1. BARNES & KING’s Ch Starvon Fame Awaits For Izlou JW, finer boned bitch, would prefer more strength to pasterns. Good top line, tail set on high. Balanced angles, but on free stand was tucking her hind underneath. Head has enough width between the ears, with flat skull and dark eye, but would prefer more strength to muzzle. Chest not as developed as CC winner. Moved cleanly in all directions RCC.
