Breed: Pyrenean Mountain Dog

First a thank you to the exhibitors for accepting me as a substitute judge, always special to judge the breed that I grew up with. Not a huge entry – but my main winners were quality dogs who represented the breed well. No entries in the early dog classes.

PGD (2) 1. DOWNES’ Belshanmish Night Fever, beautiful presented, tall & elegant. Excellent bone, super coat and condition. Short strong neck, good angulation in front, prefer a little more bend of stifle, is slightly narrow in chest, but should broaden as matures. Head is attractive, correct wedge shape lovely, rounded skull, with good breadth, super eye for oblique set, shape and colour with good pigment. Slightly loose flews. Moved ok in profile but a little loose in front. Strong contender for RCC 2. MUNSON’ s Travis Bear Du Pyrdanti For Pyrbern (imp Fra) Blaireau dog of 2 years old and still quite immature, needing to strengthen. Moderate in angulation well set tail carried well. Attractive head, good transition from muzzle to skull without defined stop, super pigment. Rounded skull, ears set level with eye, eye rims could be tighter. Needs to strengthen on the move. LD (2) 1. WOOLF’s Sabre Golden Ticket Du Pyrdanti (Imp Fra) good size, with correct amount of bone, pasterns could be a shade stronger. Found him slightly narrow in front. Correct angulation front and rear, firm top line, good croup to tail. head is attractive correct wedge shape lovely, curved skull & good breadth, super eye for shape & pigment, flews could be tighter. Another who is typical on move in profile but needs to tighten/strength coming & going. 2. DEARMAN & HENSON’s Lisjovia Eternal Guardian For Pyrekees, heavier bone dog, slightly longer back, which affects topline on move, moderate angles front & rear. A little heavy in head for me and lacking the classical wedge shape, good breadth to skull, but not enough fill under eye. Good pigment. Flews could be tighter. Rather untidy on the move. OD (3) 1. POLLARD & MAGGS’ Ch Gillandant Thief Of Hearts At Dewyche Shcex, good strong dog, of super bone without being overdone, well angulated front & rear and stands on tight cat feet with good pasterns. Firm topline with slight slope of croup to tail. Attractive in head with a broad curved skull, correct wedge from good fill under eye. Eye dark brown set obliquely to give correct expression. He excels on the move very easy and light on feet, with typical unhurried gait. Excellent presentation, DCC & BOB. 2. BAVERSTOCK’s Kalkasi Just Because JW, slightly lighter boned, and shorter in back than winner, strong short neck sufficient angulation. A young dog who still has to mature but shows lot of promise, head is attractive wedge with pale blaireau markings. Super pigment correct oblique almond eye, giving good expression. Would prefer tighter flews. Moved well and with light and easy ground covering stride. RCC. 3. KENYON & WARD’s Ch Charibere Simply The Sequel At Kaianna JW. VD (1) 1. REILLY’s UK Ch Sw Ch Ir Ch Esp Ch Multi Int Ch Lisjovia Boris Bear at Darmaror JW ShCM ShCex CW19 VW, Tall, strong built male, well boned legs to tight cat feet, excellent presentation. Good angles front and rear, and firm top line, found him slightly narrow in chest. Head is very strong and for me, lacks the classic wedge, as is rather strong in muzzle, well pigmented. Dentition forgiven for age; flews could be tighter. Felt today he was slightly showing his age on the move. BV

PB (1) Absent. JB (3) 1. BAVERSTOCK’s Kalkasi Super Special, pale blaireau, correct amount of bone for bitch, and stands on lovely tight cat feet. Needs to develop in chest as would expect at this age, well angulated with strong broad rump, good top line. Feminine head, tight mouth, good eye shape and set eye rims could be darker. Moves freely with good length of stride and effortless. 2. KENYON & WARD’s Charibere Reason To Dream At Kaianna JW, attractive blaireau, good bone and firm pasterns. Somewhat compact in outline and little upright in front angulation, which gives a very alert stance. Strong angulation behind with very rounded rump. Head is promising but needs to broaden as she matures, super pigment and lovely shape and colour of eye. Moved well in profile but little narrow in front. 3. FENTON’s Kricarno Krysty Koranation (ai) YB (2) 1. Kalkasi Super Special. 2. Kricarno Krysty Koranation (ai), good overall shape, lighter bone would prefer more strength to pasterns. Shown in between coats. Head is promising, still needs to develop across skull, but shows correct curve, exquisite eye, super pigment. Needs to drop and broaden in chest. Not as positive on move as others. PGB (3,1) 1. COLES’ Gillandant Jasmine, good size, well boned but feminine. Stands on strong tight cat feet, good body shape, though top line could be firmer. Attractive wedge head, good fill under eye, dark eye, with super pigment as expect on blaireau. Strong broad rump, correct angulation and short strong neck. Being picky could be shade broader in chest. Moved easily with light stride, beautiful presentation, and I see she is sired by the DCC, BCC. 2. BAVERSTOCK’s Kalkasi Super Special. LB (3) 1. DOWNES Belshanmish Ocean Soul, good size bitch, well presented, lovely blaireau colouring, well boned, stands on strong tight cat feet. Good body shape, top line could be firmer. Attractive wedge head of good width and curve to skull, dark eye could be more almond in shape and would prefer more oblique set. Moves well in profile but little narrow through. 2. HARRIS’ Febus Hardknott, well presented, good top line, prefer more front angulation. Head is attractive, good dark pigment needs little more strength of muzzle to balance width of skull which is broad, to complete wedge. Chest to develop, moved ok, but preferred reach of winner. 3. DEARMAN & HENSON’s Lisjovia Witches Promise For Pyrekees. OB (2) 1. THORNE’s Belshanmish New Sensation At Pyrajay (ay1) JW, my BP last time I judged in 2021, elegant bitch, with good angulation, not quite in full coat today, attractive blaireau colouring Lovely head, smooth transition from skull to muzzle, lovely almond eye rimmed with dark pigment and obliquely set. Ears set on level to eye and skull gently curved. Prefer little more width and development in chest. Moved well in profile with light and easy stride, just found her a shade narrow coming and going so she had to settle for RCC. 2. BAVERSTOCK’s Kalkasi The Eternal Chase JW, strong built, and a little heavy over the shoulder, would prefer a little more angulation in front, had a quick bone good top line head is not as broad or as word shape. Skull little domed, needs to broaden, ears well set and super pigment. Moved ok. VB No Entries
