Hound Group

It was a pleasure to judge this strong group. The showground at Bath is magnificent and the large, beautifully prepared ring gave all the hounds an opportunity to show to best advantage.

In addition to my principal winners, I also shortlisted the following: Basset Fauve De Bretagne, Ch Dyfrgi’s Explosion W with Soletrader. Basset Hound, Switherland Bazooka. Dachshund (Smooth Haired), Ch Cwmdarhian Super Mario. Hamiltonstovare, Abon Sfora Nordowskiej Knieji at Rubeusbay (Imp Pol) and the Rhodesian Ridgeback, Ch Priorpark You Coda Be Mine of Metalrock JW.

Topping the groups was the Borzoi, Am Gchg Elista's Cross My Heart (USA). Beautifully balanced and very elegant yet powerful. Very pleasing to handle, good length of head, strong arched neck and good depth of brisket. Has breadth over the loins and well-muscled, nicely angulated hindquarters. On the move he really stole my heart with his very easy powerful gait. Shown in perfect coat and condition.

In second place I had the lovely Pharaoh Hound, Multi Ch Vaskurs Moni Maker Qiwidotter. I have judged her before and I don’t think I have ever seen her look better. Like the Borzoi, she benefitted from the large, well mown ring and showed off her effortless, smooth action. She has a beautiful head and expression, clean long neck and well laid shoulders. Her body proportions are just right and she is the consummate show girl. Shown in good, muscular condition.

From a really good line-up of Dachshunds, I chose the Wire-Haired, Ch Silvae Time After Time at Bronia for third place. I thought she was rather special. Beautifully balanced with good ground clearance, well-carried attractive head with a good forehand, strong forechest and ribs extend well back. Nicely rounded bottom with strong, well angulated hind quarters.

Completing the final line up was the Afghan Hound, Ch Gezancol Never Say Never at Harlextan. Masculine and powerful with a grand head and very typical expression, strong neck and excellent forehand. Deep chest. Strong, well-angulated hindquarters. Sound and stylish with a certain arrogance on the move.
