Dobermann

Bath 24 May 2024

It is always a special privilege to judge a breed that is not your own and I was looking forward to this appointment very much. I have always had a special admiration for Dobermanns and I have followed them with great interest all the way back to 1987 when I vividly remember sitting in the Earls Court stands at Crufts, watching the late Jean Lanning award the working group to Ch Sallate’s Ferris. Since then, I have enjoyed watching them whenever possible, not just in the UK but also at several world shows in Europe and at Westminster in the US. Today’s was a good entry with, I felt, more depth of quality in the bitches where it was easier to come up with a line-up which represented the sort of Dobermann that I was looking for.

Veteran Dog (3,0)

1st Place Lateagain Satisfaction JW ShCEx VW (Miss J A & Mrs S & Mr I Groves & Lafford & Lafford) handsome male to start the day, presenting a well balanced outline with correct neck and shoulder and complementary rear angulation. Stood on good legs. Typical expression and head of good length. Moved well with excellent reach and drive allowing him to power round the ring, making the most of himself.

2nd Place Woodbriar Fix Up Look Sharp JW ShCM ShCEx VW (Ms T A Stansbury) another handsome, masculine male presenting a smart outline with correct neck, excellent topline and tailset. Very well made quarters which he used effectively on the move, really driving off. Very pleasing head of good length and balance. Could not quite match the winner in forehand angulation.

3rd Place Supeta's Pandemonium at Korifey (Mrs J, Mrs L & Mrs S Snell, Jones & Mycroft)

Minor Puppy Dog (4,1)

1st & BPD Supetas Boys Are Back in Town (Mesdames K & S M Brannan & Mycroft) a really beautifully balanced baby of lovely make and shape. He excited me. Correct through the neck and shoulder. Great topline and tailset. Excellent, quality bone and feet. Well made quarters giving plenty of dog behind the tail. Head just right for the age with good length, filling and balance. Grew in confidence as the class progressed and put in a super performance on the move being very accurate down and back and with plenty of scope going around. Just pipped at the post by his swanky sister for best puppy.

2nd Place Supetas Got to Give It Up (Miss L Hall) Another well made and very promising puppy. Proper through the neck and shoulder. Good topline and tailset. Correctly angulated and well muscled quarters. Great head in the making. My notes say ‘a good match with 1’ who I now see is his litter brother and certainly no disgrace to be second to him. A lovely pair of pups where the winner just shaded it in scope on the move in profile.

3rd Place Lateagain Starstruck (Miss J A & Mr M & Mrs S Groves & Christensen & Lafford)

Puppy Dog (2,1)

1st Place 213 - L Starstruck fantastic show temperament on this young man, channeled so well by his handler. Presents a good outline in profile with good neck and topline. Decent head in the making and good expression. Moved with accuracy and style. He is a tall, rangy boy with lots of promise but very raw and needs time to drop back into himself. Will be interesting to see how he matures.

Junior Dog (6,2)

1st & RCC Protocol’s The Midas Touch (Imp USA) JW (Mrs L & Mrs J Webb & Mullins) very smart, with an outline that is typical and unexaggerated. Correct neck which flows smoothly into a correctly angulated forehand. Stands over himself comfortably with evident forechest. Strong topline and correct tailset; well made quarters. Good bone, legs and feet. Pleasing head of decent length and carried well. He is a slightly reluctant showman on the stack but comes into his own on the move really reaching and driving and very accurate out and back. Rising 18 months it will be interesting to see what the future holds for this very good youngster. He was good value for the RCC.

2nd Place Tuwos National Hero (IKC) (Miss E Moore) another who presented a very pleasing and typical outline. Overall a very noble Dobermann with an excellent head of good length, balance and proportion. Typical expression. Has a tendency to pace when asked to move but when he eventually got into his stride he covered the ground well. Could not quite match the winner in forehand.

3rd Place Evalesco Ego Boost (Mrs C & Mr A Hickling)

Yearling Dog (3,0)

1st Place Dobshangrila Xavi (Imp IKC) (Ms T Reid) particularly liked the well made shoulder on this boy giving him correct forechest. His good angles in front also allowed him to reach out really well on the move, covering lots of ground and propelled with well made quarters. Presented a decent outline though just a tad long. Typical and balanced head.

2nd Place Korifey Reckless JW (Mrs Jm & Mr Mw & Mr Am Kent & Kent & Sutton) very well presented, quality dog with lots to like. Balanced and unexaggerated in outline. Really appreciated his head and expression. Just needs to drop into his front and rear angles a little more to complete the picture. I have a feeling that a bit more maturity will suit him. Moved with accuracy down and back.

3rd Place Llepac Against All The Odds JW (Mrs Capell)

Novice Dog (3,0)

Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

1st Place S Got to Give It Up

2nd Place L Starstruck

Post Graduate Dog (6,0)

1st Place Korifey Axl at Amious JW (Mrs J & Mr C Griffiths) upstanding male with lots of quality who presented a typically square outline. Good front, forehand, neck and shoulder. Correct topline and tailset. Good bone and feet. Moved effectively, really making the most of himself. Typically headed with good length and proportion.

2nd Place Jojavik Shaken Not Stirred JW (Mr D & Mrs S Brown) a super showman and another with particularly good neck and shoulder. Proper topline and tailset, well muscled and angulated quarters. Very pleasing head which is long, well filled and clean. Moved enthusiastically, covering lots of ground with accuracy and efficiency. Not quite as square as the winner.

3rd Place Lateagain Heart of Fire JW (Mr A & Mrs K Evans)

Limit Dog (3,0)

1st Place Manzart Zebedee JW (Mr R P & Dr R J Massey & Mcgeoch) presents a typical, balanced, square outline. Correct reach of neck. Strong topline, correct tailset and good angulation behind. Decent forechest and forehand angulation but stands a little wide in front. Typical head but I would have liked it a little cleaner cut. Moved out well

2nd Place Khaneve Kryptonite (Mrs Y Bevans) typically square in outline with good overall proportion and balance. Good topline and underline. Not quite so good in neck as the winner and was a tad narrow in front, however I preferred his head which was of excellent proportion, cleanness and balance with a super expression. Moved effectively.

Open Dog (5,1)

1st & CC Ch/Lux Ch Korifey Vanquish (Mrs A L & Ms I Jones & Ushakova) a magnificent example of the breed and a superb showman, channeled so well by his talented handler. Free-standing and owning the ground he stands on, he presents a typical, balanced and unexaggerated outline with beautifully correct, complementary angles both ends. Outstanding, quality head of correct length, balance and proportion. He is a class act and won the CC with something to spare. It took something special to pip him for BOB but in my opinion his daughter is just that.

2nd Place Rafthouse Amulet’s Child (Mr F & Mrs S Santoriello) handsome, well made masculine dog presenting a typical outline. Decent angles front and back, evident forechest. Correct topline. Stands on good legs. Typically headed. Really reached and drove around the ring, making the most of himself. Not the overall quality of the winner but no disgrace to be second here.

3rd Place Manzart War Emblem (Mrs K & Mr A Wedgbury)

Special Beginners (2,0)

1st Place T National Hero

2nd Place S Got to Give It Up

Veteran Bitch (2,0)

1st & BV Jojavik Kissy Suzuki ShCM ShCEx VW (Mr R P & Dr R J Massey & Mcgeoch) super smart showgirl, thoroughly enjoying her day out. Dramatic in outline, demanding attention. Lovely forehand, great neck and shoulder. Well muscled quarters which maybe had a tad too much angulation. Correct topline, held on the move. Super head qualities and typical expression. Moved out very well.

2nd Place Ch Ashlain Trypiti JW ShCM VW (Mr T J & Mrs Le Lainchbury) lots of type and quality here and with a smashing temperament. Correct overall balance, square in outline. Lovely lean and long head with good expression. Moved very effectively. Not quite as positive in topline as the winner.

Minor Puppy Bitch (5,1)

1st & BP Supetas Waiting for An Alibi from Korifey (Mrs A L Jones) absolutely beautiful puppy of lovely promise, balance and poise. Quality all through and blessed with a fantastic show temperament. Square and typical in outline with super neck, front and forehand. Well muscled quarters with good angulation, complementing the front end. Correctly proportioned, clean, long head with correct filling and excellent expression. Moved with accuracy down and back and with great scope going round. She was a little more together when it came to BP than her more babyish brother but I thought the pair of them were outstanding prospects for the future.

2nd Place Aritaur Daring at Dobiedar (Mrs A Pardoe) quality puppy of slightly different type, showing very well. Admired her neck and shoulder along with her well set and well made quarters. Typical in outline though not quite as square as the winner. Moved with great accuracy down and back, making the most of herself. Lots of quality in head and expression. Another one to watch.

3rd Place Lateagain Wish Upon A Star (Miss J A & Mrs J A Groves & Hyett)

Puppy Bitch (4,0)

1st Place Virsco Va Va Voom (Mrs J & Mrs R Revell & Hunt) tall enough, but retains her squareness in outline. Correct neck and shoulder. Cleanly fronted. Would maybe like a tad more bone. Lots to like in head with good length and correct planes. Very pleasing expression. Moved steadily and with accuracy, reaching out well on the go around.

2nd Place Lateagain Wish Upon A Star (Miss J A & Mrs J A Groves & Hyett) maturing slowly and still needing to drop back into herself but all the essentials are here, good neck, correct topline, pleasing head and expression. Steady and easy mover.

3rd Place Khaneve Luvly Jubly for Jarjarjinx (Miss D Wall)

Junior Bitch (6,3)

1st Place Imidz Lady Melody of Supeta (Imp Lva) (Mrs S M Mycroft) good overall make and shape, square in outline. Good shoulder angulation and proper forechest. Well made quarters which are well muscled. Head is well balanced and of decent length and proportion. Moved extremely well both down and back and around, keeping her topline.

2nd Place Aritaur Cirilla with Philmont (Mrs S Caldicott) free from exaggeration and presenting a typical outline with balanced front and rear angulation. Good through the neck and shoulder with evident forechest. Head in correct proportion to body and of good length with very pleasing expression. Not quite as positive on the move as the winner.

3rd Place Korifey Sweet Child of Mine JW (Mr P Merrett)

Yearling Bitch (1,0)

1st Place 243 - Rafthouse Bundlebrent at Granadeya JW (Mr P & Mrs D Tant) typey, well balanced and unexaggerated in outline with good upper arm and layback. Evident forechest, standing over herself well. Well made quarters. Pleasing clean head of correct balance. Showed very well and made the most of herself on the move, going with reach, drive and accuracy.

Novice Bitch (2,0)

1st Place L Wish Upon A Star

Post Graduate Bitch (5,1)

1st Place Maighread's Bonnie Rosheen to Mianna (Mr P & Mrs D Goodall) unexaggerated and well made with good forehand and forechest. Presents a typical outline and shows herself immaculately, ably assisted by her sympathetic handler. Clean lines and cleanly limbed. Her head is typical and of good length with pleasing expression. Moved very well once she settled into her stride with excellent reach in forehand.

2nd Place Krieger's in Style JW (Mrs F & Mr K, Miss L Taylor & Stracey) great show temperament really allowing her to showcase her many virtues. Square and typical in outline, cleanly fronted. Head is correctly made and of good balance and length. Typical expression. Went enthusiastically and accurately on the move though with slightly less reach than the winner.

3rd Place Lateagain Wild Heart avec Sariandobes JW (Mrs S & Mr I Lafford)

Limit Bitch (5,0)

1st, CC & BOB Amazon Just Let Me Adore You (Mr R Evans) for me, the star of the show and I could barely take my eyes off her when she entered the ring. Exuding quality; absolutely balanced and of perfect size. Immaculate through the neck and shoulder, good length of upper arm. Correctly developed but unexaggerated forechest. Strong, straight topline, good tailset and superb quarters which are powerful, well angulated and smoothly muscled. Outstanding mover with great drive from the rear and complete accuracy down and back, coupled with perfect scope and reach in profile. There is no drama when she moves, just smooth power and efficiency. On top of all this she has a classically beautiful head and a mesmerising expression. She is the real deal.

2nd Place Jojavik Unforgettable JW (Mr D A & Mrs F M & Miss V L & Mrs J A Jones & Jones & Ingram & Ingram) good overall balance with particularly pleasing neck, forehand and forechest. Really appreciated her very good head and typical expression. Moved well in profile with a nice open side gait but wasn’t quite as accurate on the down and back.

3rd Place Manzart Xtra Special JW (Mrs K & Mr A Wedgbury)

Open Bitch (6,1)

1st & RCC Amazon She Is Adored (Mr R Evans) very much cut from the same cloth as her outstanding sister. Another from the top drawer with great quality and balance. Correct angulation, beautifully balanced both ends. Super neck flowing cleanly in at the withers. Proper forehand with evident forechest. Beautifully made quarters. Great legs and feet with high quality bone straight down to the floor. Powerfully efficient on the move, going with great scope and accuracy and with minimal fuss. Wholly typical in head and expression. A real beauty. When it was time to try and separate the sisters in the challenge I really was nit picking but with the open bitch not far off a season, the limit winner just shaded it in crispness of outline but I loved them both.

2nd Place Ch Krieger's Highland Fling JW (Mrs J Bisland) beautiful type, super smart and of top quality. Very well angulated both ends and presents a very typical outline when settled. Excellent through the neck and shoulder. Super topline and tailset. Well made quarters. Very pleasing in head which is of good length and well filled. She is a very good mover but maybe not going today with quite the smooth efficiency of those above her.

3rd Place Supeta's Diamond in The Sky (Mrs S M Mycroft)
