Leeds City & District Canine Association

Breed: Hungarian Vizsla

Thank you to the Leeds committee for the invite to award CC’s for the first time in Hungarian Vizslas. I loved my day judging one of my favourite breeds. It’s a breed where you can instantly see what’s before you , I like a moderate but noble dog that has that certain quality of type and substance . There is not one dog that has every quality I would desire but I am looking for breed type, construction and they have to move as their construction should indicate. I was delighted with my main winners and there are some promising puppies coming through.

Many thanks to my two stewards and to the exhibitors for bringing their lovely dogs for my consideration.

What a super puppy . Appealed for type, medium size dog with good head proportions for age, clean neck into well laid back shoulders, good forechest, straight forelegs leading to tight feet, short back, slight tuck up, he has a great character and I loved how vocal he was. Moved very well for a puppy. Should have a bright future.

2nd: CHALLIS, Mr S & CHALLIS, Mrs K M Vizslanya Domenkos

Another nice puppy , nothing overdone at this stage , medium sized dog, appealed for shape and balance, masculine head with kind expression and correct planes, moderately long neck into well constructed front assembly, deep chested, well sprung ribs, slight tuck up, short loin, just needs to tighten in front movement.

1st: BERGIN, Mrs Sharon & BERGIN, Mr James Oakswarren Fire Kracker With Roughshoot (ai)

Loved this boys noble head, in fact my favourite of the day, so typey ,it was lean , masculine but with soft expression and good square finish to muzzle. Very much liked the make and shape of this young dog, moderately long length of neck sitting into well laid shoulders, plenty of depth to chest, strong level topline and powerful hindquarters . Stood on good legs and neat feet. Didn’t disappoint on the move , true and accurate, he powered round the ring , handled to advantage . I am sure his title will come .

1st: WATSON, Mr P Oakswarren Inferno

Super quality male , medium size with nothing overdone . He is excellent to go over ,your hands just flow from from his lean, noble head to his muscular rear quarters ,clean strong neck into well laid shoulders , deep chested, straight front , upright pasterns , well sprung ribs, short back, slight tuck up and level topline which he held on the move, correct tail-set, easy open stride and used his hocks well to drive around the ring , certainly a dog who looked like he could do a days work . Correct dense coat of russet colour. , delighted to award him DCC & BOB

2nd: MILES, Ms Emily Sh Ch Layways Van Winkle JW

A joy to go over this dog , he is in top condition, coat was gleaming ,dense and lovely russet colour , shown in great muscular order. I have admired him from ringside , very balanced, high on the withers , strong level back , deep in rib and slight tuck up . Rear quarters moderate and muscular. Moderately long neck .He has a masculine head with just a tad too much stop for my preference but this did not detract from his other qualities, I just felt today he wasn’t putting all into his performance and as such I awarded him a well deserved RCC .

Two super veterans a true credit to the breed

1st: LAYTON, Mr S Sh Ch Layways Lana Del Rey, just loved her , full of quality and type , noble head and distinguished air about her . Moderately long, slightly arched neck sitting cleanly into correct front assembly , deep chest and well ribbed back , correct finish to croup and tail well set. Slight tuck up and well angulated rear quarters.Belies her age and moves so very true with reach and drive . She was shown in the best of musculature condition and a credit to her owners . BCC & BVIB and Veteran group 2.

2nd: BRADLEY, Ms Elaine M Sh Ch Vizslanya Vivmany By Highforce JW Sh.CM ShCE

Another firm favourite of mine and another who belies her age , loved her head so distinguished with a spattering of grey ,she is in wonderful condition. Keeping her level topline on the move , her movement is free and still drives from her hocks. An excellent example of the breed and its longevity.
