THREE COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW

FLATCOATED RETRIEVERS - DAY 4 – SUNDAY 9TH JUNE 2024

JUDGE: SUE GOODMAN (BEANIT)

Thank you to the Three Counties Committee for inviting me to judge this show. Luckily the weather held so the judging could be outside, the only downside was the bumpy grass ring. I was disappointed there were no puppy dogs but at least there was one puppy bitch as I do love the puppy classes getting lots of licks and love from wiggly Flatcoat babies. Although the entry was not huge the quality was of a good standard, there were a few level bites but on the whole temperaments were great with lots of wagging tails. Pleased to hear that the winner of Junior and Yearling Bitch gained her final Junior Warrant points. A number of bitches were out of coat including the Bitch CC winner but she is a very good example of the breed, my Dog CC and BOB winner had a beautiful coat and he just out moved the bitch CC winner today. The veteran classes were a joy to judge, full of quality, fit and healthy veterans.

Junior Dog 4/0 Absent

1st Rillie’s LIZZLOG SWEET TALKING GUY – Nice young dog, typical head and kind expression, yet to mature but well constructed, good feet and correct bend of stifle, moved well.

2nd Robinson’s BENVELLYN CAMDEBOO – Another nice dog although a bit on the smaller side to the first and much the same comments apply, quite lively with a good head, front. I am sure these two will swap places another time.

3rd Broadbent’S GEMSWIN I AM SAILING

4TH Mantle’s RHIEWVALLEY AIN’T GUILTY

Yearling Dog 3/0 Absent

1st Clark’s HURSTCLOUGH NIGHT OWL AT FLANOVA - A medium sized dog with a good racy but not weedy appearance – a kind expression with lovely moulded head and good feet. Moved well.

2nd BOWEN’S CLANDRIFT BRING ME SUNSHINE JW – A similar size to 1 but not in such good coat, he has a typical head with a kind eye and expression, adequate bend of stifle, good feet – think he would have benefitted from having a larger ring to move around.

3rd Egginton, Egginton and Davis’s PAJANBECK THINK OF ME(AI).

Novice Dog 1/0 Absent

1st Broadbent’S GEMSWIN I AM SAILING – A slightly heavier build but nevertheless he was a well constructed dog with a pleasing head and kind expression – nice tail set and coat in good condition.

Graduate Dog 3/2 Absent

1st Deacon’s HARLISTREAM RAINSTORM – Although standing alone he was a worthy winner. A medium sized racy dog with a good outline, nicely moulded head with kind expression, he kept his topline when moving.

Post Graduate Dog 5/0 Absent

1st Bellamy’s BOCHILBARLEY GOBLET OF FIRE JW - I did like the overall conformation of this happy dog, he never stopped showing and was good on the move, good head with correct length of muzzle, good eye placement and colour, good bone and feet liked his short and square loin and his rear construction.

2nd Kearton’s BRAEMIST BOOTLEGGER AT RAVENHALL- Many of the comments apply although he was a slightly bigger type but there was a lot to like about him, his tail set was slightly lower than 1 but they could change places on another day.

3rd Armstrong’s BITCON JACKPOT

Limit Dog 7/0 Absent

1st Nicholls, Nicholls and Price’s LLANTRUSSA AS BIG AS THE RITZ – I really loved this liver boy, he has a classic moulded head and good eye set, in good coat for a liver dog with excellent front construction, good feet, level topline on the move. He was a very happy dog and sometimes a bit of a handful for his owner. Very pleased to award the Reserve Dog CC to him. He pushed hard for top honors.

2nd May’s RONEVORG DARK ANGEL AT LUSSAC JW KCwgc A Medium sized dog, slightly different in type to the winner but a lot to like about him. A very balanced dog with excellent front, reach of neck and correct topline on the move, just the right amount of bend in stifle and presented in a fit well muscled condition.

3rd Jone’s HIGHTYNE UNFORGETTABLE AT BRAEMIST

Open Dog 4/1 Absent

1st Holland’s SH CH FLATCHARM MAYHEM MILLER – A very handsome eye catching mature male with the best coat out of all exhibits on this day. I liked his overall construction, good head, a kind eye and melting expression, a good reach of neck to the correct shoulder placement meant that he was balanced and stood very well – altogether a perfect picture. He moved round the ring with ease – happy to award him the DOG CC and BOB.

2nd Bellamy’s SH CH WOODFINCH MASQUERADE - I was spoilt for choice in this class, two fine examples of the breed in 1st and 2nd place. Another handsome male in full coat – I liked his construction, good classical head – kind expression, good reach of neck and overall construction. He moved well.

3rd Rillie’s LIZZLOG SWEET TALKING GUY

Veteran Dog 3/1 Absent

1st Kilminster’s BEREND UIT DE ZWARTE POLDER FOR WITHYBED (Imp Nld) – What a great example of the breed! This dog is 11 and a half years old and in super condition, a slightly heavier build than the dogs in the previous class, but nevertheless a lot to like about him. Classic moulded head with a very kind eye and expression, good deep chest and right amount of angulation in rear quarters. He moved round the ring like he owned it and probably may have benefitted from a larger ring – super fit.

2nd Staff’s BONNYHILBRAE ROYAL FLUSH – Another very fit veteran with a heavier coat than 1, good head and reach of neck, good eye and kind expression, nicely balanced.
