Newfoundland Club CH Show
19th October 2024
Firstly, a huge thank you to the club for a well-run show, I feel it is the ultimate honour to be asked to judge a club show. Secondly an even bigger thank you to the exhibitors for a stunning entry and for their sportsmanship and grace accepting what were many close decisions. Unusually there were more dogs and the quality of exhibits was stronger that in the bitches, maybe affected by this being their second show of the day. Overall quality and presentation were first class, the entrants were in tip top condition and eyes were greatly improved, a small percentage could have had slightly tighter lower lids but some of this was immaturity. A few tails were short of the ideal and this trait needs watching.
Class 1 Baby Puppy dog or bitch (9,2) 1. Leech’s Mileoak Utah Beach a 17 week old male, chunky well marked white and black still in puppy coat, with correct angulation, a pleasing head, tight eye who moved happily and steadily. Best Baby Puppy In Show 2. Moore and James’ Starnewf Mr Dark Sky, 4 month old male small and compact with nice angulation, in good condition with a sweet expression, tight eye and correct head and ear set. Moved well and happily. 3. Duff’s Titanbear Requiem, 5 month old black bitch just changing coat. Good head proportions correct bite, would prefer a slightly less round eye. Well-muscled but slightly down on her front pasterns. Tight feet and moved well holding her topline. Ready for the big girl classes, she should do well. MPD (5,0) 1. Moir’s Newgraden To The Moon And Back, Just 6 months brown still in puppy coat. A compact and chunky dog with good bone and tight feet. Lovely head and expression, eye colour in keeping with coat. Moved really well keeping a level topline. BPD BPIS 2. Payne’s Bearhugs Rockerfeller at Squestpaws, nicely marked white and black just where he should be at 6 months. A little narrower than 1 so look forward to seeing him develop, good angulation fore and rear, level topline and well set tail. Well presented and moved. 3. Farrar’s Disoranto Cool Hand Luke at Darkpeak 8 month black going through a growing phase so a little leggy at present and out of coat but does not detract from his excellent shape, so correct for his age. Really nice head developing tight dark eye, excellent muzzle good length of neck. Stands parallel and holds his topline well, not quite as smooth in rear movement today. PD(4,1) 1. Leech’s Mileoak Hubble Bubble 11 months with a well developed chest giving a strong mature front. Head coming on nicely with correct proportions and a dark eye. Lower lid could be a little tighter but he is young yet. Tight neat feet, and good angulation gave good reach and a level topline held on the move. 2. Moakes’ Mileoak Huxley 11 month well marked white and black of good size. Head needs to develop for the muzzle to broaden and his eyes to tighten in an otherwise correct head. Eye showing too much haw today. Good bone, muscle and angulation so moved with drive keeping a level topline. 3. Wheatley’s Wilbears He’s A Legend, just 6 months old black, changing coat. He gave away to the maturity of the first two. Lovely head good bite, eye and earset. Good width of chest and angulation, maybe a little long in rear pastern but still growing. Moved well, a really happy puppy. VD(3,0) Superb class a credit to the owners 1. Dickson’s Zentaur Der Kapitan Wisperdomen 8 year old black, beautifully proportioned with a classic head good bite, correct earset, dark tight eye and gentle expression. Moved with style on good tight feet, beautifully presented and sympathetically handled. BVD 2. Ryan’s Newfangled Shenanigans, very close to the winner 8 1/2 year old black in excellent condition and presentation. Strong male head, slight wrinkle on muzzle, dark eye, correct bite and earset. Good front and strong pasterns so moved well just not quite the extension of his rival for top spot. 3. Moss’ Freddybears The Real Mccoy, 10 ½ year old black with abundant coat typical of a neutered male, under the coat really nicely angulated, good width of chest handled with sympathy to show his best. Lovely gentle expression and correct head for his age. Credit to his owner. JD (6,2) 1.McDonald’s Shadowrise Fire and Ice Lovely profile, strong male head with correct bite and dark clean eye. Good width on a correct front, moved well coming and going. Well handled as won this class on kinetic extension. 2. Austin’s Davistell Springsteen of Elbear slightly smaller and lighter boned but again a lovely profile with handsome head free from wrinkle, tight dark eye and good earset. Good strong topline and although better rear angulation did not have quite the extension on the move. These two will change places often. 3. Gorvin and Cole’s Davistell B’Mian Rapsody. Good size, but needs to mature for width. Smooth and well proportioned head to give a nice outline. Well handled and maintained a level topline on the move. YD (3,0) 1. Canning and Rennison’s Oukaya Forever Ursa Minor (Imp FRA) 19 month well marked white and black won this class on overall balance. Masculine, clean head with a tight eye and correct bite. Strong bone and good breadth of chest. A powerful boy moved steadily for control but could be more dynamic to show off his angulation better. 2. Blahuta’s Daybreaker’s You Give Me The Shivers (Imp POL) 20 months black with lovely balance and good angulation. Strong bone, good width and tight feet. A strong masculine head, the eye could be a little tighter but still a young boy. Well muscled and moved well. 3. Hosie’s King Of Helluland Jungle Book at Shadowrise (Imp SVK) 18 month black. A heavier head with some wrinkle to the muzzle and deeper in flews. Nice profile standing, and good bone. Strong topline correct croup but tail a little short. Moved well but slightly proud of his tail which just upset his outline. PGD(7,1) 1. McIntyre, Yates and Hall’s Shirebear Mystify with Edbear. Near 2 ½ yr brown of good size who gave his owner a really hard time. Good outline of correct proportion, lovely head with kind expression, clean muzzle, would prefer a less round eye but colour in keeping with coat. Strong bone broad back, leading to correct croup. Beautiful presentation, moved well if a little wilful. 2. McPhail Anchorbrook Aye Aye Cap’n Just 2 years black, another big boy of good proportions, slightly heavier head with more to come to balance his ears and tighten his lower eyelid. A clean muzzle with correct bite, strong well set neck giving a good head carriage. Broad chest and good bone. Moved with power on tight feet keeping a level topline. 3. Owles and Bristow’s Zentaur Fizzical Therapy 3yr old black of medium size, lovely profile and head proportion if a little deep in flew. Tight dark eye. Would prefer a little longer neck. He has it all, great angulation giving power on the move, strong masculine head, good bite and earset. Slight wrinkle on the muzzle detracts from a clean head but overall, a beautiful outline. 2.
