Since last judging Cardigans in 2022 I was surprised to find quite a few straight fronts, the standard calls for “forearms slightly bowed round chest” and “feet turned slightly outwards” but my principal winners for me there was no mistaking it was a Cardigan Corgi.

My first two could have swapped places, not much between them other than first has slightly better length of body.

1st Mrs T Taylor: Ch Handskes Just A Gigolo at Tamlin (Imp Fin) 9 year old male who shows no sign of age. Lovely foxy shaped head with good width of skull, correct ear placement, dark eyes, muscular neck, shoulders well laid, forearm fitting closely round chest, well boned legs & tight feet turning slightly outwards, muscled body and thighs, good rear angulation, nicely balanced on move, steady, free, and active. CC & BOB and nice to see shortlisted in strong Pastoral Group

2nd Mr & Mrs Burgoyne & Goddard; Ch Waterdeep Ranger One JW ShCM ShCEx; 8-year-old and not much different to first, maybe slightly more fore-chest, again typical easy movement, free and fluid.

3rd Mrs J & Mr M J Lovell; Liebehund Forest Moon.

1st Mrs C A Langford; Gowerston Geriant of Caprian ; Just 8 months, lovely wedge shaped head with well placed ears, nice neck and good fore-chest, enough bone at this age, back a good length with well bent stifles and nice neat hocks, tail carried low on move, BPD

1st Mrs R & Mrs J Evans & Hutchings; Arcanedale Hiraeth; 14 month old, little shy to start with but once settled he was fine, wasn’t too keen to show his ears today. Pleasing head shape, muscular neck and shoulders, well laid fitting body, good length of back and good rear angulation. Just needs time to settle.

Very mixed class

1st Mr R Field; Gowerston Grantchester; Very eye catching youngster with pleasing head of correct proportions with good length of neck, well placed shoulders closely fitting, enough bone & feet well padded but just needs to body up a little to complete the picture, good rear angulation and won this class on his steady movement.

2nd Mrs F & Miss B Lee; Chrishama Magic Apprentice for Amenbury; Slightly heavier built than first, I just preferred first’s steadier effortless movement.

3rd Mrs A M Stevens; Coriend Blue Nimbus.

1st Mr B J & Mr H D Essenhigh & Bishop; Ceranda Gower Charmer at Brynlluan; Liked this boy as he entered the ring, masculine foxy shaped head, eyes toning with coat, large erect well placed ears, muscular neck, good for chest and depth allowing front legs to mould round his body, shoulders well laid back with well sprung ribs, strong firm top-line and well-muscled hindquarters, plenty of bone throughout, thick brush like tail carried well. Well padded feet all combined allowing positive forward reach and good drive from behind. In challenge he really pushed for the RDCC.

2nd Mrs T E & Miss B J Taylor; Tamlin Millennium Falcon; Very similar to first in many ways, super head and lovely ear placement, muscular neck, well laid shoulders close fitting, plenty of bone with well padded feet slightly out turned, not quite so long in body as first but still balanced, muscular thighs, positive forward reach and with good drive.

3rd Mr & Mrs Burgoyne & Goddard; Pemcader Diamond Geezer

1st Miss J Down; Ch Elessar Howling Moon; Super masculine male with typical foxy shaped head, good width between large erect ears, dark eyes and clearly defined corners with moderate amount of stop, neck well muscled with good fore-chest, nice lay back of shoulder with good depth of chest, front legs moulded around body, well sprung rib with strong loin, well angulated hindquarters with strong hocks, plenty of padding to feet. Won this class on his steady, effortless & powerful movement,

2nd Mr B J & Mr H D Essenhigh & Bishop; Ch Hundahilli Bulleyana for Brynlluan; Masculine foxy shaped head with good width between large erect ears, moderate stop and dark widely set eyes with clearly defined corners, muscular neck and shoulders well laid back, firm in back and good rear angulation, strong vertical hocks allowing forward reach and drive. Just preferred first for overall substance.

3rd Miss J Cooper; Haveback Beech Haven.

Four lovely veteran bitches all in super condition today.

1st Miss S E Taylor; Ch Bymil Picture Perfect; 8 years old, lovely feminine bitch with foxy head and large erect ears, good bite with square set jaw. Muscular neck, nice fore chest with well laid shoulders, good length of body, well angulated hindquarters and feet tight. Lovely bushy tail carried low, effortless movement.

2nd Mrs V A Roberts; Wildcard Lottie at Foaldown; 9 years old, with nice foxy head and alert expression. muscular neck, well placed close fitting shoulders, fairly long in body. Well muscled hindquarters, moved well.

3rd Mrs J & Mr M J Lovell; Ch Liebehund Jakku JW; 8 years old

1st Miss T J Irving; Twinan Shield of Steel RAF; Just coming 8 months this young bitch is beautifully balanced. Lovely foxy head, well placed large ears, dark eyes, muscular neck well placed shoulders closely fitting chest, plenty of bone with well padded feet, body firm with well muscled thighs and well angulated rear, so steady and confident on move. BPIB and really pushed the RBCC winner.

2nd Mrs F & Miss B Lee; Gowerston Gemstone at Amenbury; Nice overall shape, very feminine, just not quite the body condition of first.

3rd Mrs C Davies; Joseter Ooh Betty at Ceranda.

2nd Mrs T E & Miss B J Taylor; Kris Team Bakalia for Tamlin (Imp Pol);Preferred first’s movement and would like a softer eye, but nice overall shape.

1st Miss J Down; Elessar Blue Diamond JW; Foxy shaped head with good breadth between large ears with moderate stop, correct eye shape, fairly long neck, shoulders well laid back & elbows closely fitting sides, good length of back, strong bone, allowing free movement.

2nd Mr R Field; Cruglwyd Cristyne;Nicely proportioned bitch, foxy head, large well placed ears, muscular neck on well laid shoulders, good bone, and well padded feet, slightly shorter in back than first, nice rear angulation. Moved well, just preferred first’s slightly better length.

1st Mrs V A Roberts; A Ray of Sunshine at Kogarahs (imp); Well muscled bitch. Feminine in head with large well placed ears, dark eye and moderate amount of stop, muscular neck on well set shoulders with a good fore-chest and depth of chest, legs moulding round body with ample bone on well padded feet. Ribs well sprung with good length of back, well muscled hindquarters and firm hocks allowing plenty of reach & drive. BCC, just could not match the dog in challenge for his positive movement.

 2nd Ms P Fitzpatrick-Graham; Ancksunamun Hallows Eve JW; Another super little bitch, nice feminine foxy head with correct ear set, well muscled neck going into well laid shoulders, chest of good depth with good length of back, well muscled hindquarters which showed when she moved with free thrusting action.

3rd Mrs R Evans; Lidoffad Llew Gwillt;

Neck well muscled with nice amount fore-chest, good lay back of shoulder and depth of chest, front legs moulded in around body, well sprung rib with strong loin, well angulated hindquarters with strong hocks and plenty of padding to feet. Won this class on her steady, effortless & powerful movement, RBCC

 2nd Mrs C A Langford; Caprian The Vixen JW; Very similar comments to first, just not quite the muscle tone of first which meant she didn’t have quite the power on the move but a lovely balanced bitch.
