WINDSOR CH SHOW

AV STAKES

Lovely to judge a number of the stakes classes at this very special event. Pity that as ever with these classes there was in some cases, especially on the first day, a high proportion of absentees but what the answer is I don’t know. As it was there were some top class dogs among the contenders. Good to see the sportsmanship in the YKC classes.

THURSDAY

YKC WORKING: 1 Hayter’s German Pinscher Maxally’s Andromeda**, nice to see this attractive breed beginning to get the recognition it deserves, quality well balanced girl with super topline, well boned, matching angulation both ends, looked the part going round retaining her shape, responded well to handler; 2 Hooley’s Bartkennels Ljosalfar, Alaskan Malamute with plenty of bone & substance, typical head, OK shoulders, young handler did a kind job with a dog who will I’m sure gain more confidence with time. YKC PASTORAL: 1 Lee & Ratcliffe’s Sh Ch Arrodare True Legend, super Border Collie of beautiful type & balance, moved with great style & typical head carriage, sound as a bell, beautifully presented & handled; 2 Gibbons & Blyton’s Ch Mangry’s Need For Speed with Wispafete, feminine Australian Shepherd, smart showgirl, clean neck & shoulderline, reachy neck, quality bone, didn’t retain her outline on the move quite as well as 1; 3 Fillery’s Shetland Sheepdog Wavesong Born To Be Noisy.

GROUP CAPTAIN SUTTON VETERAN STAKES: Super class all through. 1 Taylor’s Ch Handskes Just A Gigolo at Tamlin, the fine wine of the Cardigan world, has come into his own in his senior years as the breed often does. Such a typical outline, typical head & ears, real Cardi front & moves with great style; 2 Bowden’s Ch Subessen Blaze Of Fire, Beardies are another another ‘lasting’ breed, so pretty and feminine with a lovely smooth outline, not exaggerated in any way & a free flowing mover, close up; 3 an old favourite in Pletz-Kazantzis & Busby’s Smooth Collie Ch Foxearth Fandella.

CHARITY OPEN STAKES: 1 Hateley’s Ch Lizmark Lullaby Moon over Mohnesee, what a beautiful blue Sheltie of classic type, glorious flowing outline with super reach of neck & a sensible amount of coat which reveals rather than conceals her excellent conformation, well moulded head, sparkling showgirl with top class presentation; 2 Ellis’ Dasval Little Big Man, impressive Giant Schnauzer with a classy outline & firm hard topline, reachy neck, excellent angulation & movement, coat well presented but could have been just a shade harder; 3 Asquith’s Tibetan Mastiff Ch Wangdak Cherry of Baarnayotms.

AGRIA JUNIOR STAKES: Hard to separate these two. 1 McKinley, Johnson & Hall’s Kayarrach Wish Upon A Star, nicely balanced Estrela who moved so smoothly round the ring retaining her shape, feminine expression and good general conformation, shapely body, just needs time to fill out; 2 Lawrence & Ellis’ Falkor Poetry In Motion, smart German Pinscher, well made with super topline, clean neck & shoulderline, moved true, not quite so ‘together’ going round today.

IRENE TERRY MEMORIAL STAKES - So pleased to judge these classes in memory of a very special lady who gave so much to the society & to her favourite breed. BRED BY EXH: 1 Jerrett’s Coldelee Eternal Sunshine, such a pretty feminine Smooth Collie, lovely outline, enough bone, attractive expression with obliquely set dark eye, smart mover from all angles; 2 Fitzpatrick Graham’s Ancksunamun Hallows Eve, typy Cardigan who scores on outline, super topline retained on the move, OK neck, sound hindquarters, moved with style, winner scored slightly on head; 3 Birch’s Great Dane Busdan Ziva’s Terzo. NOT BRED BY EXH: 1 Samuels’ Shimani Love For Life, showy Siberian with super topline, well boned & bodied, a shade heavy in front but scored here going round; 2 Wensley’s Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive, this masculine Smooth Collie was really full of beans, moved with plenty of drive, masculine head, not quite so firm in topline today; 3 Richings’ Portuguese Water Dog Barqueiro Amora.

FRIDAY

YKC GUNDOG: 1 Clack & Eddery’s Epsilon Adhara at Molokain, lovely Curlycoat pup with a classic outline, intensely feminine, just the right angles each end, beautifully presented and sensitively handled, maturing nicely & with normal luck an exciting future beckons; 2 Lewios’ Fairwinds In Space Man, eyecatching Golden Retriever, admired his head & expression, good reach of neck into super shoulders, OK topline, moved with style, handler made the most of his chances, perhaps could be a shade more compactly built but should do well; 3 Trickett & O’Connor’s Duck Toller CFyre’s Spellbreaker at Tollpepper.

VETERAN: 1 Harris’ Kingsmist Panther, quality Field Spaniel, super head type, good neck into clean shoulders, well balanced outline, moved steadily; 2 Hydon’s Clentonian Pandemonium, tallish English Springer but nice to see the characteristic height/length proportions, very masculine, firm topline & a stylish mover going round, a shade wide in front; 3 Pingault’s GSP Sh Ch Taftazini Aiden Abbett.

CHARITY: 1 Oddie’s Sh Ch Sharnphilly Boondoggle, such a handsome Pointer, unquestionably male, the right length of neck into an immaculate topline, powerful hindquarters used to great effect, moved all of a piece, particularly liked his front action, great reach without any hint of hackney; 2 Such’s Carlyquinn Captain Ross at Mujascal, impressive masculine English Springer, super bone and substance, balanced angles, another who came into his own going round; 3 Douglas’ Irish Water Spaniel Daffydon Dilly.

JUNIOR: 1 Norbury & Ganney’s Heartbury Matador, another excellent Pointer male, full of quality, lovely expression, eyecatching outline with matching angles, plenty of bone, true mover both ways and with OK reach & drive, one I’ll watch; 2 Edwards’ Copper’s Get Off My Cloud by Bonhomie, loved this Irish Setter at first glance, gorgeous balanced outline, firm topline, well chiselled head, no exaggerations. Just wouldn’t get into his stride on the move, otherwise it would have been a tough decision here between two beautiful dogs; 3 Proudlove’s IWS Cuboglach Toadflax Brocade.

MEMORIAL - BBE: 1 Warnes’ Debian Deerhunter, most attractive well made Vizsla male, balanced both ends, masculine head, firm topline, nicely muscled hindquarters, looked the part going round; 2 Challis’ Vizslanya Csibe, another Vizsla & as feminine as winner was all male, head, neck & bone appealed, not quite as ‘together’ on the move as her nephew: 3 Pounds-Longhurst’s Golden Retriever Mossburn Golly Misx Molly. NBBE: 1 Quinn & Skeemer’s Germanus Hotwyr Yindi, classy GWP, hard as nails, handsome head, good shoulder & upper arms, true front, plenty of substance, firmest of toplines, true front & rear; 2 Gaylor & Robertson’s Heniveruce King Of Brewers for Aprilflash, typy Welsh Springer, look a picture standing, excellent neck & topline, good length to height proportions, moved true but winner scored on side gait; 3 Layland’s Golden Retriever Maddouse Could Be Trouble.
