Windsor 2024 Siberian Huskies

Judge: Sharon Sargent

Thank you to all who entered and made the trip to Windsor on a weekday and endured the incredibly long wait to get into the ring. There were only four absentees from a smaller than average but very high quality entry. I must also thank the two ring stewards who worked with no break from first thing in the morning to completion of judging late in the afternoon.

Being third in the ring it was disappointing to have to wait until mid-afternoon to start judging, especially as a number of rings were vacant throughout the day. I hope that the Windsor committee can plan the order of judging better in future years so that more rings are utilised and judges are not put under pressure to complete their judging in time for the groups. The Working Group was called while I was judging Limit B. Fortunately both my BOB and BP made their respective groups but not BSB.

This long wait on a warm day caused some dogs to lose enthusiasm by the time they were judged and possibly affected placings in some classes.

As I have said previously judging is often a compromise and difficult decisions have to be made when dog A scores better in one aspect than dog B, yet in a different aspect dog B scores over dog A. Judging this entry was really quite challenging and I was pleased to see quite a few dogs that I would consider worthy of green cards.

Veteran (3, 1 absent)

1. Ch Joy Av Vargevass at Polarquest (Imp Nor) (Miss A Shelford)

This almost 9 year old grey/white girl has long been a favourite of mine. She looks fabulous standing and excels on the move with a perfect flowing stride that I could watch all day. Her outline and angulation both front and rear present a picture of perfect balance, her topline is level with the desired slight arch over the loin, ideal slope to the croup giving correct tailset. Along with her excellent conformation she has a beautiful feminine head with obliquely set almond shaped eyes giving that incomparable Siberian expression. Lovely coat and in obviously fit condition, she pushed the CC winner hard. RCC, her second from me, and Best Veteran.

2. Vukasin A Feast for Crows (Mr C Hannan)

9 year old grey/white girl of a completely different type to the winner as she is more compact in build with slightly heavier bone. Although doesn’t quite have the athleticism of the winner she moved soundly and was in good coat.

Minor Puppy Dog (2)

1. Trailhunters Mr Tor (Miss N V & Miss R March & Smith)

Delightful 8 month old grey/white who has a lovely head and the most gorgeous expression. His ears are well set and his eyes almond shaped and obliquely set. At present going through a stage in his development giving him a tendency to stand slightly high in the rear, but on the move everything fell into place and he looked much more balanced. He has a lovely fluid stride in profile and for a youngster impressed on the out and back. Best Puppy D.

2. Siberdrift Howlaween (Mrs C Spratley)

Dark grey/white, also 8 months old. Slightly more compact build than the winner but is well balanced and moved soundly. Good topline and tail carriage, in lovely coat and well presented.

Puppy Dog (1)

1. Riverjunction's Gralskonig (Imp Deu) (Mr A.J & Mr A.M Pottle)

10 month old grey/white compact type with a super coat. He has a good expression with almond shaped obliquely set eyes. His outline is balanced and moved tidily when he settled although was a little distracted at times, good tail carriage.

Junior Dog (3)

1. Komaksiut's Glen Devon Av Ratatuyak at Ceannabeinne (Imp Nld) (Mr H H & Mrs J M Wakker)

15 month old black/white. Gorgeous head and expression with almond shaped obliquely set eyes, his outline is balanced with good angulation and proportions. His topline is correct with a slight arch over the loin and slope to the croup giving correct tail carriage. He impressed both standing and on the move. At this stage he has much maturing to do but all is going in the right direction and I look forward to watching his development.

 2. Eversepp Tennessee (Mrs R & Mr D Sharp)

17 month old agouti/white. An athletic looking boy, he has a lovely outline and is well proportioned with balanced angulation, correct topline, slight arch over the loin and correct tail carriage. He was somewhat unsettled today but moved very soundly when he did settle into his stride.

 3. Riverjunction's Gralskonig (Imp Deu) (Mr A.J & Mr A.M Pottle)

Yearling Dog (2)

1. Polarquest Queens Company (Miss A Shelford)

21 months old dark grey/white. What a super boy! His athleticism is evident in his outline, movement and condition. Super angulation and balance with correct arch to the loin and slope to the croup. His neck was proudly arched while standing; on the move he excelled with an effortless flowing stride showing off his ideal topline and tail carriage. He is the son of my RBCC winner and I can see him following in her pawsteps with a great future ahead of him.

2. Pekakicali Kaneq (Mr P Miles)

23 month old white with a very attractive head and expression, good earset and obliquely set eyes that are almost green in colour. Not quite as well balanced on the stand as the winner but came together more on the move. I feel that this boy may take some time to mature but he has potential.

Post Graduate Dog (2)

1. Tsaritsa’s Apollo (Mr & Mrs Biddlecombe)

2 years old, medium sized white/cream. Super outline on the stand, beautiful head and expression with good earset and almond shaped obliquely set eyes. Good proportions and angulation, excels in shoulders and upper arm and he has the correct slightly arched loin and slope to his croup giving good tail carriage. He took some time to settle but once he did get into his stride he demonstrated efficient and smooth striding movement. Pleased to award him RCC.

2. Macphadraig’s Angus (Mrs R & Mr D Sharp)

7 years old grey/white. Pleasing head and expression, good outline and balanced angulation, correct feet and pasterns, correct topline and croup, good tailset, sound mover.

Limit Dog (3)

A small but quality class. These three will no doubt often change places.

1. Sirocco of Winterspirit at Tsaritsa (Mr & Mrs Biddlecombe)

3 years old grey/white. A very eyecatching boy who has everything going for him, he has a beautiful head with obliquely set eyes and correct earset, super outline and angulation front and rear giving excellent balance. Ideal proportions, correct topline with slight arch over the loin, correct slope to the croup leading to good tail carriage. He covers plenty of ground on the move with a smooth stride presenting a picture of athleticism. He was certainly a close contender in the challenge and I am sure that green cards will soon come his way.

 2. Bifrost Addler's Theory (J R M Foard)

4 years old mono black/white who has matured beautifully since I last judged him a couple of years ago. He is slightly more compact than the winner and his croup slopes a little more steeply but he is an obvious athlete in fit condition. He moved purposefully in profile and was tidy on the out and back.

 3. Zawkkast Ex Lax (Mr T & Mrs S Hart)

4 years old grey/white I have previously placed well. He still impresses but today wasn’t giving his best in the afternoon of a warm day. His head and expression appeal with almond shaped obliquely set eyes and correct earset; his outline, angulation and balance are all correct. He has a good topline with correctly arched loin and well carried tail, he is athletic and in fit condition. He is a sound mover and although today was not his day he remains a favourite.

Open Dog (4)

1. Trailhunters Tsutey (Miss N V & Miss R March & Smith)

5 years old grey/white. Beautiful head with ideal high set ears, super expression, almond shaped obliquely set eyes. Good front, feet and pasterns, correct depth of chest and tuck up, well proportioned and balanced. On the stand he did tend to tuck his hind legs under himself slightly so showed himself off best when he was moving. Certainly presented a picture of athleticism and carries hard muscle. In profile he covered the ground without exaggeration and was tidy on the out and back. All topped off with a good coat, I was pleased to award him the DCC.

 2. Icynights Feeling Good at Kedalita (Mr D, Miss R V & Mr C Tapper & Leyland)

4 years old white. This boy has a fabulous outline and always shows himself very well. He has balanced angulation, super proportions, excellent topline with a slight arch over the loin and good slope to the croup giving correct tail carriage. On the move he is outstanding with a smooth free flowing stride in profile and so true on the out and back. A close decision in this class between the first two, however I just preferred the head of the winner.

 3. Bifrost Chayka Sound's (J R M Foard)

4 years old dark grey/white. I have previously placed this boy well, he still impresses and the decisions in this class were close. He has a pleasing outline with correct angulation and is well balanced; his topline is level with a slight arch over the loin and slope to croup. In fit condition, he moved soundly and covered plenty of ground.

Special Beginners (3)

1. Forstal’s Polyanthus (Ms T Evans)

16 months old grey/white girl. This feminine young lady has an exquisitely pretty head and super expression with obliquely set eyes and high set ears. Her body proportions are all correct, she has lovely angulation, correct topline and tail carriage and is so well balanced. Very tidy on the move, she is still very young but I feel that she must have a bright future.

Sadly she missed the Sp. Beginners group, which was called even before this class was judged.

 2. Mysticwolf Shining Star over Wintersleigh (Mrs H & Mrs E M Lawes & Doggrell)

19 months old grey/white. Another pretty girl with a lovely head and expression, pleasing outline, well balanced and angulated, moved well with a good stride.

3. Tsaritsa Avenger Eleven at Pocketsibes (Dr K & Mr J Brown)

2 years old white, very pretty, she has a nice outline and good balance, moved well in profile and on the out and back.

Minor Puppy Bitch (3)

1. Trailhunters Raven Rock (Miss N V & Miss R March & Smith)

8 months old grey/white, this beautiful girl headed a trio of litter sisters. She has a fabulous head and expression with obliquely set almond shaped eyes and high set ears. She has a super outline and good balance for one so young, good angulation and proportions. Her movement flows in profile and is true on the out and back. She showed herself off very well despite the long wait to get in the ring and remained alert and interested throughout. She was awarded Best Puppy over her brother and I was delighted to see her take Puppy Group 4.

2. Trailhunters Vixen Tor in Wightflight (Ms J D Platt)

8 months old grey/white. Really the same comments I made about her sister also apply to this girl as all three are quite similar. She has a very pretty head and expression, good outline and balance and moves well for a youngster. To split hairs at this stage her sister has the slightly better tail carriage.

3. Trailhunters Ryders Rock at Pekakicali (Mr P Miles)

8 months grey/white. Again, similar comments as she has the same characteristics as her sisters. She is a nicely proportioned puppy who moved and showed well. No doubt these three will change places often.

Junior Bitch (4, 1)

1. Komaksiut's Glen Cameron Av Ratatuyak at Polarquest (Imp Nld) (Miss A Shelford)

15 months old grey/white. She has a most attractive head with obliquely set eyes giving alert mischievous expression, she is well balanced with a pleasing outline, has good feet and pasterns, once she settled she covered the ground well when moving. Has lots of potential.

 2. Forstal’s Polyanthus (Ms T Evans)

As Special Beginners.

 3. Eversepp Miami (Miss Z M Thomas)

17 months agouti/white or black/white. She has a lovely outline with good angulation and balance but just needs to fill her frame a little more, which will no doubt come with maturity. Her topline and tailset are correct and she has good feet and pasterns. Covered the ground well, keeping her topline, and has good tail carriage.

Yearling Bitch (3)

1. Mysticwolf Mo Cuishle (Miss A J Spruce)

19 months old dark grey/white. Feminine girl with a lovely head, she has a foxy expression with obliquely set almond shaped eyes and correct high set ears. Super angulation, on the stand she presents a picture of everything in well balanced harmony which is confirmed on the move as she covers the ground well, keeping her topline, and is also true going out and back. Certainly one to watch for the future.

 2. Mysticwolf Shining Star over Wintersleigh (Mrs H & Mrs E M Lawes & Doggrell)

 As Special Beginners

3. Siberiadrift Woo Woo (Mrs C Spratley)

22 months old dark grey/white, more substantially built than the first two but nicely put together with good angulation, topline, outline and tailset. Moved soundly and smoothly.

Post Graduate Bitch (4)

Four lovely girls in this class.

1. Ceannabeinne’s Chenariva to Kedalita (Mr D, Miss R V & Mr C Tapper & Leyland)

2 years old, white girl who is beautifully put together. She is feminine with a pretty head and expression, excellent angulation, correct feet and pasterns. Her outline is fabulous with correct topline, arch over the loin and sloping group. With lovely fluid movement she carries her tail well and is sound on the out and back. Loved her and feel she will go right to the top.

 2. Wightflight Insh (Ms J D Platt)

4 years old dark grey/white. Nothing to hide on this girl as she had stripped off for the occasion! She is feminine with an athletic build showing excellent balance and angulation. Super topline with arch over the loin and correct slope to the croup. She has a smooth stride in profile and moves true on the out and back.

 3. Ceannabeinne Fortysmiles at Polarquest (Miss A Shelford)

2 years old white, litter sister to the winner and very similar. She has a great outline showing good angulation and correct topline, she is very sound with smooth movement.

Limit Bitch (4)

Fabulous class.

1. Zarchenski Taboo Zilp at Pocketsibes (Dr K & Mr J Brown)

5 years old grey/white pie. This girl has matured and blossomed since I last judged her and is now at her best, looking the athlete that she is. She is feminine with a lovely head and super expression, she stands with a nicely arched neck leading to an ideally angulated front assembly, correct depth of chest and tuck up with a perfect topline showing the correct arch over the loin and slope of croup with well set tail. She has good feet and pasterns, her hindquarters carry firm muscle with an ideal bend of stifle and length of second thigh. On the move she is perfection, with an effortless stride in profile and completely true on the out and back. All finished off with a super coat.

On a long and warm day when some dogs lost their sparkle this girl certainly kept hers and outshone the rest to win CC and BOB. She was still sparkling in the group and I was proud to see how well she represented our breed.

 2. Tsaritsa Oettinger (Mr & Mrs Biddlecombe)

4 years old grey/white who was certainly enjoying herself today! I have judged this girl previously, loved her then and love her now she has matured. She has the most beautiful head and expression with almond shaped obliquely set eyes and a perfect high earset. She excels in outline and angulation with good feet and pasterns. Super proportions, topline and tailset. When she settled into her stride she moves beautifully and is certainly worthy of top honours.

 3. Mysticwolf Diesel's Dream (Miss A J Spruce)

5 years old dark grey/white. Pretty head, good outline and balance, good topline, feet and pasterns, well angulated front and rear and was very sound on the move.

Open Bitch (5,1)

1. Wightflight Einich (Ms J D Platt)

4 years old mono black/white, one I have judged previously as a youngster but now entering maturity she has blossomed into a fabulous example of the breed. Athleticism and femininity in abundance, she has a lovely head and expression, arched neck leading to well placed shoulders, correct depth of chest, good feet and pasterns. Her hindquarters carry firm muscle and are ideally angulated. She has a slight arch to the loin and ideal slope to the croup giving correct tailset. On the move I could watch her all day, her flowing stride in profile is a joy and she is true going out and back. Loved her, she was certainly a contender in the challenge.

 2. Korsvig A Patchy Girl for Pekakicali (Mr P Miles)

5 years old black/white pie who does not project herself as some do but did everything required of her to win her place. She has a good outline and angulation, correct depth of chest and is well proportioned, carried herself well on the move.

3. Trailhunters Pandora (Miss N V & Miss R March & Smith)

5 years old grey/white. Good outline and balance with correct angulation front and rear, good feet and pasterns, correct topline, sound mover.
