National Gundog Association

Breed: Best in Show & Best Puppy in Show

National Gundog Assoc. 4th August 2024 Judge Sarah Sevastopulo

What a fabulous honour to judge Best in Show and Best Puppy at the ultimate gundog show. I had a fabulous selection of dogs to judge and they were of excellent quality. Not enough awards to share but I made a short list in both the groups to reward those I thought were outstanding. Many thanks to The National Gundog Association for such a memorable day.

Best in Show

Group - 1st Place 795 - Wilchrimane Frankly Darlin, (Miss, Mrs & Mrs Siddle, Siddle & Medeiros) Pointer

Orange and white girl of fabulous type. Superb outline with flowing curves from her nose to beesting tail. Feminine head, dark eyes, thin leathers , excellent angulation front and rear, well turned stifles and excellent muscle tone. All of this gave her sound driving action, such a joy to watch and with her overall quality could not be denied this top spot.

Her day to shine and also won her 3rd CC, I was told as the photos were being taken, Congratulations.

Group - 2nd Place 1863 - Sh Ch Gunalt Hendricks, (Messrs D R & G A Alcorn & Ingram) Weimaraner

Fulfils the power, staminer and balance that the standard demands. This plus his outstanding showmanship, quality and presence together with his breed type personality and fabulous movement gave him Res BIS.

Group - 3rd Place 1454 - Sh Ch Vanitonia Soloist, (Mr L A S Cox) Clumber

I have been a fan of this dog for sometime, but have never had the pleasure of judging him before. He more than lived up to my expectations. A true Clumber from nose to tail - strength of bone, correct construction, full coat and and the superb movement ranks him among the best I have ever judged. Presented to perfection.

Group - 4th Place 655 - Rozebottel's Love of My Life Ww-23 W-22/23 Hcw-23/24 Multi Jch (Mrs K H J G Van Gemert) Lagotto Impressive on the move and the stack. Super square shape, love construction and excellent coat texture from nose to tail. I was really impressed with her overall type and style. Delighted to hear she was made up today.

Plus short list of those who didn’t make the top 4 but pressed very hard to do so.

Best Puppy in Show

Group - 1st Place 537 - Forfarian Fancy Footwork, (Mr G & Miss K Jacobs & Bernard) Irish Setter

What an outstanding puppy, he is so full of quality and breed type. For one so young moves with drive and flows around the ring. Has it all there from construction, head type and coat, to that quality, raciness that an Irish must have, to make him an easy winner of this Best Puppy in Show.

Group - 2nd Place 1412 - Tollerways Algiz Baloo, (Miss Ehj Van Eijk) NSDTR

Super alert Toller, loved his head type, ear carriage and overall balance. In excellent coat with well feathered tail. Super ribs, angulation, topline and so full of breed type. Happy, confident and handled so well to get the best out of him and show off his true jaunty movement. Res Best Puppy in Show.

Group - 3rd Place 334 - Flaxheath Cover Girl at Glenmaurangi, (Mrs A & Ms T Phillips & Watkins) Gordon Setter

Such a balanced and mature young lady. Excellent tan points, dark coal black coat, super head type, topline and overall construction. Strode out well to take this place in a quality puppy group.

Group - 4th Place 1949 - Woolimut's Ultimate Recipe at Houndtor, (Mrs J Mckendry) Barbet

A breed I have followed over the years with interest for its rustic charm. Thick natural curls and a balanced body and overall strength gave this youngster the correct breed type and look. With a sociable nature and even disposition this girl moved so well and had the easy balance and stride so typical to take this final group spot.

Plus short list of those who didn’t make the top 4 but pressed very hard to do so.
