Sussex Spaniel Association - Centenary Year – 45th Championship Show - Judge Sarah Sevastopulo.

I was hoping to find some well built Sussex with typical frowning brows, so necessitous for their function in thick brambles. Strong bodies, with level toplines and tail carriage with good typical movement and golden coats to complete the picture.

Size as always was variable, colour was mostly good, temperaments excellent and very few incorrect bites. My top winners were outstanding and would have held their own in any decade. So wonderful to see the breed flourishing and new and old owners enjoying this special day, I certainly did. Thank you all.

Superb mature male. Excellent coat and colour. Super overall shape and construction with excellent bone and feet. Really sound mover with true action. Res CC and BVIS.

Excellent overall shape, coat and colour. Liked his head type, with true frown and good stop. A bit light in bone, good feet and moved well.

3rd Bel ShCh/Ned/Lux Ch/Int ShCh Labry Berry Brezhnev (ATC AT01616rus)

Dark in colour, good overall shape and construction, but a bit too long for height. Pleasing head type, plenty of coat and sound mover.

Really promising puppy who needs more training to show off his full potential. Excellent head type, with true frown and expression. Good shape, bone, feet, coat and colour. Has it all there to mature into. Movement got better with each class as he got to know what was expected.

2nd Wollasbridge Barnaby

Very similar to his brother for shape and overall quality. Not quite the development of head yet but has plenty of time. Coat coming. Sound mover.

Very babyish at the moment, just needs to develop and mature. Sound mover

Super type, coat colour , so well presented. Excellent colour and construction. Dips behind the shoulder which spoilt his topline on the day. Good mover.

Very different type but lots to like. Lovely over all shape, fraction long for true balance. Good head type and frown. Mature male who moved well. Splitting hairs between these top 3.

Didn’t need company to shine. Stunning dog for type, strength, fitness and movement. Best of heads, full of work to give true expression, frown and all male view. Excellent bone, construction and true outline, length to height ratio and seal coat. Could watch him move all day, so at one with his handler. Couldn’t be denied the CC today.

What a fabulous Sussex Bitch. Super size, strongly built but maintaining femininity. Glorious head with true Sussex expression, and frown. Correct height to length ratio, excellent angulation front and rear, level topline and tail carriage; just flowed from head to tail. Super sound movement. In fabulous coat and condition.

She took my eye here and nothing touched her in the challenge for the CC. Very close decision with the dog, but she could not be denied Best in Show. She reminded me of so many of our Sussex over the years for pure breed type.

2nd Prytaneion Atropos

Another girl out of the top drawer, excellent head type, construction and good coat with super colour and texture and excellent movement. Pasterns could be stronger.. Looking at the catalogue now, see she was just pipped by her mother.

3rd Foxhampton Foxy Lady

Made up a trio of lovely girls. Good for overall type and construction. Excellent coat and colour, super movement. Would just like her one size bigger.
