Retriever (Chesapeake Bay)

This was my first real entry of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the appointment, not just for having my hands on some good dogs, but the lovely ambiance created by the friendly and happy exhibitors, fairly took me back in time.

I was looking for that well-proportioned, powerful, workman like dog, with a distinct, harsh oily double coat, with the potential to do a hard days work. A few of the bitches were carrying a little too much weight..

Dogs

MPD (1)

1st Jackson’s Oakmarsh Locksley Really promising seven month old dog puppy, very nice bodily proportions and correct for his age, well balanced head, with a bright clear eye with small well set ears. Tapering neck into well laid shoulder and nice return of upper arm, placing his legs well under body, straight front, round tight feet, level topline, slight tuck-up, nice turn of stifle with moderate height of hock, which he uses well on the move with good strong driving movement.

PD (2)

1st Mahon-Hunns & Middleton & Haskin’s Susqudilla Bergelle Big Apple (Imp USA) very finished and mature dog puppy, with lots of bone and substance, he certainly gives the appearance of being strong and muscular. Dense double coat with wave over his neck and back. He has a very Broad round skull with a corresponding balanced pointed muzzle. Strong well set neck into well laid shoulder, deep body with well sprung ribs, strong loin, well turned stifle, good driving action. Best Puppy. 2nd Playle & Thomas’ Riptide Gentlemen’s Relish Liked his general type, but needs a bit more time to come together and finish, he was not settled today in the ring, I like his head, with a good song muzzle, moderate stop and good skull, strong neck, good depth of ribcage, and nice bone, felt the set of his rear quarters not as good as 1 but this may improve with time and when he muscles up.
