Bullmastiffs.
Many thanks to the Association for inviting me to judge Bullmastiffs and to the lovely exhibitors who presented me with a quality entry and took my placings in a sporting way. The ring was not the biggest, but I though all the handlers coped well and got the best out of their dogs. I would express my concerns over mouths with a number of poorly aligned bites, small teeth and some rather deep undershot bites. However, I would also like to highlight that the majority of dogs were in excellent fit condition and of good temperament.
Puppy Dog (3)
1. Warren’s, Copperfield Jonas Mudge, 9 months old and this boy has good size and substance. Masculine head which is developing nicely, with a nice medium dark eye and an excellent expression. Ear size and placement is excellent. He has a powerful neck, topline is OK, would like to see him strengthen in his second thing. Good bone and feet, he moved well with a balanced side gait, probably could have done with a bigger ring. Am sure he will have a bright future, very nicely presented and handled. Best Puppy Dog.
2. Armstrong’s, Copperbulls Picasso at Dunnaney, 7 months old with lots of qualities and plenty of growing to do. He has a nicely balanced head with a lovely eye, excellent mask, ears of good size well carried. He has good bone and feet, lovely reach of neck and good topline, just a little proud of his tail at this time.
3. Priest’s, Big Boy Brucie.
Junior Dog (1)
1. Lindley’s, Hyerdunscar All About Keith Through Optimus, this is a substantial boy of almost 16 months, with lots of maturing to do. He has a strong masculine head with tidy ears. He has an excellent reach of neck and a good topline, would just have liked him a shade more compact. He has good bone and feet, good angulation in the rear, was very good on the move with a good side gait, another who could have done with a bigger ring.
Post Graduate Dog (3,1)
1. Warren & Green’s, Copperfield Hubble, 3 & ½ years fawn, of good size and substance. Pleasing head, right ear could sit a little better, nice eye and expression. He has enough bone and good feet, handler needs to be careful as sometimes he tends to stand a little narrow though his front. Good neck and topline, a little steep in croup, he was very good coming and going and really good in the sidegait.
2.Nicolson’s, Karmicly The Botanist of Kodis, 2 years old red boy with a strong masculine head, would liked to have seen more symmetry in his ear carriage. He has a good neck and topline, strong bone and good feet, but unfortunately he disappointed me on the move today with not much reach in front.
Limit Dog (2)
1. Roberts’, Joybull Mister Bossman, almost 21 months, dark brindle boy of excellent type, I just felt today he still has a lot of maturing to do. He has a balanced head of medium strength with a lovely eye. Excellent flow from the neck onto a topline which can still firm up a little bit. Excellent croup, good bone and nice tight feet. He is well angulated front and rear, he was good coming and going and held a lovely shape on the move and another who could of availed of a bigger ring. Pleased to award him the Reserve Dog CC today, will watch with interest how he matures.
2. Bingham’s, Daisonville I’m Your Man, 2 & ½ years male with a strong masculine head, but I would like better proportions to the head. Nice eye, good reach of neck and nice flow to the topline. He has good bone and feet, well angulated in the rear and he moved freely.
Open Dog (3,1)
1.Myers’, Ch Optimus Douglas, 4 years fawn who is a lovely size and shape. Strong masculine head with a lovely eye and expression. He has a lovely reach of neck onto a good topline, with excellent bone and feet, presented in rock hard condition. His angulations are balanced, nicely presented and handled. He is excellent coming and going and has nice sidegait. Pleased to award him the Dog CC.
2. Thomas & Bull’s, Phoria’s Seventh Heaven, this is a strong boy of 2 & ½ years and well done to the lady who got the best out of him. He has a pleasing masculine head, with a very nice eye and expression. Good neck and topline, good bone and feet, but I would prefer a little more strength to the pastern. He moved well, but probably needed a bigger ring to be seen to his best. Definitely a bit of a character.
Puppy Bitch (1)
1. Latter’s, Stoneglad She’s All That, 11 months old and very well named. She has a certain presence and attitude about her. Pleasing head with a nice eye and ears well carried, just a little loose on the lip. Nice reach of neck, good topline and croup, good bone and feet, angulations are balanced front and rear, pleasing on the move though at times she can be a little close behind. Pleased to award her the Reserve Bitch CC and Best Puppy in Breed and delighted to see that she was placed third in the Puppy Group.
Junior Bitch (4,1)
1. Myers’, Hyerdunscar Our Cilla at Optimus, 15 months fawn of pleasing type, medium size with a balanced head and a very nice eye and good strength to her muzzle. Lovely neck, topline and croup, good bone and feet. She seemed to be a little bit of a handful for her handler, moved well in the sidegait, just needs to strengthen in the hock moving away.
2. McGroarty’s, Ardhub Reprint in Black, 14 months old brindle of very pleasing type. She has a very nice eye, ears are well carried. Nice reach of neck and good topline, with a good croup. Excellent bone and feet, good substance, would have preferred her a little better in front coming towards. Very nice temperament.
3. Bingham’s, Daisonville Philippa.
Post Graduate Bitch (3)
1. Campbell & Martin’s, Bainsford Maples Blossom, 3 years old with a wonderful temperament. She has a strong headpiece with a lovely eye, ears well carried when she decides to use them. Excellent bone and feet, good chest, topline was fairly OK, but she was carrying too much weight today which spoiled her outline. In fairness, despite the weight, she moved really well with an excellent side gait.
2. Campbell & Martin’s, Bainsford Annies Angel, 3 years old, with a strong head. Lovely eye, ears ok, nice neck, unfortunately topline is rather soft. She has a good croup, good bone and feet, would prefer more strength to her rear quarters, she moved freely but losing topline. A sweet girl with lovely temperament.
3. Taylor’s, Karmicly Bahama Mama at Karismar.
Limit Bitch (4)
1. Thomas & Bull’s, Phoria’s Eden, 2 years fawn with a pleasing head, lovely head and a nice expression. Ears are well carried, good reach of neck, super topline and croup. She has good bone and feet and was very pleasing in the side gait on the move. I would have liked her coat to have been in slightly better condition, very well handled.
2. Roberts’, Joybull Dance with the Devil, 18 months brindle, very pleasing type with a nice head piece, lovely eye and good expression. Good bone and feet and a nice reach of neck, but would have preferred her a little fitter in the body and could have made more of herself on the move.
3. Wemyss’, Nanhboozoo No April Fool.
Open Class (5,1)
1. Myers’, Ch Paris De L’Arche Des Loups Anges Avec Optimus, 5 years old and what a beauty. She has a feminine head but still of good strength. Lovely eye and expression, excellent muzzle and good mask. Good reach of neck, super topline and croup. She has excellent bone and nice tight feet. Great substance in the body, excellent angulations front and rear, she also has lovely temperament and a certain star quality about her. She holds a wonderful balanced shape on the move, was very pleased to award her the Bitch CC & BOB and delighted to see her shortlisted in a strong Working Group later.
2. Aston’s, Saphira De Terras Lusitanas Astonpride, 2 years old Red bitch, that still has a lot of maturing to do and still to fill in the body. She has a pleasing head, with a nice eye, good ears well carried. She has excellent bone and feet, nice topline and a good croup. While she has a lovely sidegait, she does need to improve a little bit in front coming towards.
3. Downs’, Optimus Mulberry.
