Southern Flatcoated Retriever Club

Breed: Retriever (Flat Coated)

SOUTHERN FLATCOATED RETRIEVER C, Dec 8, 2024

The Southern Flatcoated Retriever Club held a championship show at the new venue of Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Salisbury. Absolutely ideal for holding two shows at the same time, with plenty of room for the dogs to move, good lighting & lots of room for cages & people. A super, friendly atmosphere all day with everybody joining in the ambience of the show. Thank you to the committee & particularly my two stewards Netty & Victoria, who did a good job keeping me in order!

BIS went to the dog, Flatcharm Serious Pig; RBIS was also a dog who took the RCC, Bitcon Jackpot; BCC was Evening Mist Black Brianta (Imp CZE), BPIS went to Hopevalley Morning Xanadu; BVIS, Swe Ch Flatterhaft Music Of The Night; & Best Baby Puppy In Show was Affinity Promises Kept for Woodfinch.

Baby Puppy D (1) 1 Bellamy’s Affinity Promises Kept for Woodfinch, nearly 6 months old but well made showing lots of potential, he is a lovely type & just right for age, he has a good coat coming & a nice head & a melting expression, he moved just as a baby should but he was well schooled yet still showed his naughty streak. I wish him luck, I think he can only do good for the breed for his balance & type. Baby Puppy B (0). VD (6,3a) 1 Karllson’s Swe Ch Flatterhaft Music Of The Night, mature dog of 8 years old who is balanced & moved so well & typically, loved his type & masculinity, has such a masculine head & correct expression from a lovely shaped eye, well set & carried ears, good neck & topline & correct tailset & strong loin, his profile movement was excellent with the correct footfall, close up to RCC & a pleasure to judge. Best Veteran in Show; 2 Knight & Jacobs’ Gemswin Rolling In The Deep JW, still looks the part at 9 years, he is so masculine in outlook but not a flashy dog & well made, good head & expression, OK for size & balance, put down in excellent coat in good condition, well made & muscled hindquarters, moved soundly on well boned legs & feet; 3 Reynolds’ Telurn Can’t Touch This SGWC. MPD (2) 1 Fox’s Westoncruive Ace Of Spades by Blacktoft, mature 8 months old with a lovely well covered body for age, in good coat with a typical head which of course still needs to finish to complete the picture. Moving he just needs to tighten in front coming towards you but in profile he is typical with the correct forequarters which again should finish well. Nicely balanced with correct depth & width of ribcage at present & good loin & tailset; 2 Durrant’s Glenturret Wet My Whistle, another of the same age but just needs to body up & mature into himself to complete the picture, good head & expression from the correctly shaped eyes, good neck & shoulders, held his topline & has a well set tail, showed & moved well, shows promise with maturity. PD (3) 1 Knight & Jacobs’ Gemswin Innocent Man, balanced boy with such a good head & correct expression, well set eyes & ears, good neck & shoulders, still needs to tighten up moving but he is still only not quite 9 months, his dam took the RBCC, so obviously her lovely type & attitude has been passed down to her son who is maturing nicely & moved with purpose & verve really covering the ground with ease on well boned legs & feet, his balanced profile & type took him to the class win & BPD; 2 Bright’s Hopevalley Morning Magic, another who was close up, I can see they will have lots of tussles over their careers, his is slightly behind in maturity to 1 but has lots to appeal including his good movement, balance, head & expression, lovely neck & shoulders leading into a strong topline & well set tail, in good coat & condition, a nice type who appealed; 3 W Ace Of Spades by B. JD (5) 1, 2 repeat; 3 Clark’s Ronevorg Can You Be Serious. YD (5,1) 1 Doeve’s Velvet Hunters I Don’t Like Mondays NLD/VDH/RO/LUX JCH, big strong boy of a different type to some but still correct, his movement took him to the top for it was so correct & he moved with such ease & purpose particularly in profile really covering the ground with ease that I could see him in the field, excellent head & expression, good eye & ear placement, good neck & shoulders leading into a good strong topline & well set tail, well muscled hindquarters used so well & correctly, well boned legs & feet & in good coat which was well presented; 2 Lane & Lane-Ridyard’s Kulawand Callisto JW, this balanced boy settled better after his first run round when he wasn’t happy but on going over him & then getting him to move, he improved beyond recognition. Nice type who, now I see his breeding, I can see why he appealed. Good head & expression on a well set neck & shoulders, held a good topline & has a good hindquarter, he was put down in excellent coat & condition, not an overlarge dog but just right for age; 3 Woodhams’ Kulawand Casanova, litter brother to 2. GD (3,1) 1 Velvet Hunters I Don’t Like Mondays NLD/VDH/RO/LUX JCH repeat from YD; 2 Clark’s Esined Bright Idea, nice dog who challenged hard, he is well coat & well presented. Just preferred the head & expression of 1 & would like more neck to complete the picture but he moved OK, had a good topline & well set tail, nice hindquarters & showed well. PGD (2,1) 1 Smith’s Ruddleberry Dark Pheonix, alone here & needs slightly more neck to balance, he obviously enjoys his food, like me! Good hindquarters, legs & feet, head is typical with a kind eye correctly shaped & set, he was put down in a lovely presented coat of the correct texture, moved OK. LD (9,1) 1 Armstrong’s Bitcon Jackpot, not an overlarge dog but so balanced & still very masculine in outlook, I loved his head & expression, eyes with that melting expression & shape I was looking for, excellent well placed & set ears, leading into an excellent neck & shoulder placement, good ribcage of a good depth & width, nice loin & a well set & carried tail from a strong topline kept on the move where he excelled, loved his type & balance, still young & has time on his side, his showmanship & movement gave him the class & RCC in strong competition. He then went on to take RBIS; 2 Harvey’s Moontorn Black Magic, another correctly made dog, there is no mistaking his sex, just preferred 1’s head length & balance, but so close up, well coated of the correct texture & excellent presentation, moved & showed with style & grace using his well boned legs & feet to cover the ground with ease, nice type with potential; 3 Bowen’s Clandrift Bring Me Sunshine JW KCWGC. OD (7) 1 Ramunno’s Flatcharm Serious Pig, in such a strong class he just kept calling me back, I have never seen him before but he so impressed me at the end of the morning I couldn’t walk passed him for the DCC. It was when he moved in the first move round that he caught my eye & he continued to impress when he was just waiting in line. Spot on for size for he shows his masculinity from his excellent head & expression with well set eyes & ears, through his correct neck & shoulders, good topline & tailset, to his good ribcage, loin & well muscled hindquarters, all this is topped by a correct coat which was well presented, he was balanced & an excellent type, I wish him luck for the other 2, because if he could do what he did only being in the country from the USA 4 days, well, I shall watch with interest.
