LEEDS CH SHOW 26th JULY 2024

CHIHUAHUA (SMOOTH COAT)

I last judged the breed five years ago and it was interesting to see some of the changes between then and now. In 2019 mouths weren’t so good but I feel these have definitely improved. Less missing teeth and irregular bites. Well done breeders. My biggest disappointment on the day was rear movement. Too many exhibits that looked good on the table and filled many of the hands on requirements did not have the “good drive in hindquarters” I was hoping for.

DOGS

MP (5)1

1 STADING’S Toltechi's Dante Le Poete.

At 8 months this tricolour had lots of style and owned the ring. An engaging, keen expression. Good apple dome. Eyes were big, ears splayed and correct length of muzzle. Lovely to go over. Reachy neck with well placed shoulders. Top line firm, tail carried correctly and his silhouette on the move was attractive. Best mover. Quite well developed and had the advantage over the less mature exhibits. A prospect who displayed lots of self confidence. BEST PUPPY DOG & BEST PUPPY IN BREED.

2 RUSSELL’S Chirouxe Come Together

Another bright eyed youngster with lots going for him. Same age. Large well placed ears and tapered muzzle. Animated expression. Coat had a sheen. Another willing showman with personality. As yet top line still soft and preferred winner’s balance of height to length.

3 HOLLAND-SMITH’S Angela Beltran De El Capricho De Ela For Kirdanchi Taf

1 ALEXANDER’S Alderxena Pocket Rocket

Neatly made youngster who stood alone. At 9 months he was presented in well conditioned, soft textured coat. Appealing head properties with good breed points. Skull nicely rounded, sufficient stop, big eyes and well set ears. Quite a live wire that resulted in unsettled movement both coming and going. Perhaps needed more time to settle and with only one in the class this was difficult.

1 ROONEY’S Yorone Make My Day

Today was a day for the youngsters. Only 14 months but this Fawn and White impressed to win the CC, Best of Breed and delighted to watch him take Toy Group 4 in good company. Bubbly boy with an outgoing personality. Table assessment confirmed that he was well assembled with an attractive head. Rounded skull with apple dome, big splayed ears, large, bright eyes, good dentition, lean cheeks, short tapered muzzle. Coat condition was excellent, soft and glossy. Elegant profile. A sound moving boy who stepped out in a brisk fashion with sickle tail carried over back. Nice muscle tone. He gave a good account of himself and I later learnt, and could fully understand why, he already had three CCs under his belt. This was number 4. He complimented the Bitch CC so well and they looked good together.

2 SLAVINEC’S Charonchi Sultan Of Swing (ba3)

My notes are positive. Good looking with big ears, bright eyes, apple shaped skull and correct muzzle length that created satisfying breed head type. His attentiveness and crisp outline caught my attention. A good knit of body parts. Nice rear angulation and decent tail set. Bags of confidence and he moved with purpose. Winner was tidier in front action.

3 ALEXANDER’S Alderxena Ruler Of A Kingdom

1 SLAVINEC’S Charonchi Ignatius

Spirited Fawn whose face features appealed. Big round eyes set a good distance apart, apple dome. Ears positioned at 45 degrees. Adequate stop. Well sprung ribs and good bone to match his frame. An accomplished mover who circled the ring with head up, level top line and high set, sickle tail.

2 ENTWISTLE’S Dorentys Arfa Sixpence.

Smaller Fawn boy who I felt could benefit from carrying a little more weight as he was quite narrow at the waist. Apple headed with big eyes. Used ears well giving a switched on expression. Brisk mover just a bit untidy coming towards me. Cocky little guy who had a good rapport with his owner.

1 FAIRBAIRN’S Tidos Undercover Operative

Striking White boy …very glam in head with good eyes. Fearless in attitude and gave his owner 100% and showed himself off to advantage. A fluid balanced outline with clean sweep from neck to tail. Stepped out smartly with accuracy. Managed to out move his classmates today.

2 ROONEY’S Yorone Two Can Play That Game

Lovely sized youth who satisfied many of my requirements. Just standing over more ground than winner whose firmer balanced outline I preferred but at 14 months and with a bit of maturity he will come together. Easy on the eye with appealing head properties. Fun loving personality. An accurate gait just needs to firm through the core. Brother to Dog CC.

3 MORRIS’ Mikichi Mr Moonlight

1 HOLMES & ENTWISTLE’S Ch Cazants The Gaffer Luvs Dorenty

A nice looking, respectable Red who stood up well to close scrutiny. Scored for neat make and shape and his look at me attitude caught my attention. Small with enough substance and had good type twinned with sound construction. Head appealed with cheeky expression, good round eyes, big 45 degree ears and apple dome. His positive attitude continued on the move where he strutted with purpose. Head high, level top line and tail up and over. His front and rear angles matched resulted in freedom of movement. After finishing the males I was drawn back to him for the RCC and his overall qualities satisfied me he was worthy.

2 MACKAY’S Beaulamey Show Me The Money For Tarabish

Pushed winner all the way. Smart Cream who was presented in fabulous condition. Matched winner well in most respects. Appealed for expression, ear set, level top line, depth of brisket, stepped out with conviction. Great rapport with his handler and loved the sympathetic handling and it brought out his best. I understand he was recently crowned Champion. I can see why. Nice quality.

3 HUNT & FOTHERGILL’S Ch Diamonchi Mr Moonstone

1 Alderxena Ruler Of A Kingdom

3rd in Junior and littermate to PD winner. Lots of similarities. Handsome head with good breed hallmarks. Cheeky personality. Good for size. Movement needs steadying.

BITCHES

MP (6) 2

1 BLACK’S Roovena Pumpkin Patch

Feminine 8 month Chocolate and Tan. A little unsure on the table but was so much more settled on the ground where she out moved the competition. Appealed in expression with big eyes, rounded skull, deep stop and flared ears set far enough apart to give good breadth. Spirit level top line. When she gained her composure her cheeky personality shone through.

2 SLAVINEC’S Charonchi Sugar Moon (bb1)

Delightful Cream only 6 months old. Very much the baby but her foundations are sound and she has good breed points. Super Chihuahua face features with big eyes, excellent apple dome and correctly placed ears. Needs body. Only let me see glimpses of her potential but what I saw I liked.

3 GRACE & TWADDLE’S Tikus One Love At Sasilasy Naf Taf ( Imp Den )

1 HUNTLEY’S Jahneemahs Just The Ticket.

A pretty Cream only 9 months old with sufficient quality to take on her older competitors and come out on top. Bags of confidence and in the challenge had such enthusiasm that she took home the CC. I am sure this is the first of many as she oozes breed type. Sweet face with perky expression. Large eyes, huge ears set wide enough to give good breadth to skull. Apple domed. Showed off her good points willingly and had natural deportment. It was lovely to watch her move soundly in both directions and circled the ring swiftly displaying a balanced outline finished off with correct tail carriage. Super combination of type and soundness. Exciting youngster. Just the Ticket… I would speculate the first of many.

1st FOTHERGILL'S Diamonchi Miss Beautiful. You have to be pretty confident and excited giving a show puppy this name. But she wears it so well. Definitely star quality with lots to commend. Such a saucy expression with all the face features that are needed to display sass. Eyes, ears, stop, tapered muzzle and mouth finish….all good. Feminine and a lovely size. Balanced outline and she moved with good reach and drive and knew what was expected of her and put on a good show. Went around the ring as if she owned it. A pleasure to judge and I was impressed. Splitting hairs is such an overworked idiom….but for the CC I found I was trying to make distinctions between two top quality girls when there was hardly any. A pleasure to judge ….RCC.

2 ENTWISTLE’S Cazants The Geisha Luvs Dorenty

Cheeky Cream with a pert expression. Her waggy tail said it all…precocious. Super size. Feminine outlook with large eyes and ears. Good arch of neck flowing in to a nice body, top line was firm and tail set on well. Brisk mover who strode out with purpose. Litter sister to Dog RCC. Both of a high standard

3 LANGFORD’S Boetandales Rhythm Goes On

1 TAYLOR’S Ch Arkoschi Diamond In The Ruff JW

Easy to see the quality in this Fawn. Impressed in head with true blue Breed traits and was accomplished on the move putting her construction to good use. Scored for balance and posture. Standing she presented an outline that was fluid from neck through shoulders to tail. Great show girl who caught my eye.

2 FOTHERGILL’S Diamonchi Miss Sparkel JW

Litter sister to the winner of Limit. How lucky to have not only one but two smashers in the one litter. Had so much to like. Scored for size, construction and saucy expression and moved with accuracy. Proud head carriage, firm top line and high tail set created a stylish silhouette. Felt winner had the touch more glamorous headpiece.

1 HILL’S Carouselway Loopy Lou At Lilliputchi.

A sweet 8 year old. Her expression was pert coming from big dark eyes set low in head, defined stop and shortish muzzle. Apple domed with flared ears. A tidy size. She was enjoying her outing and I liked her profile going round with head high and jaunty action. Front action satisfactory just wayward going away. A nimble veteran with an engaging personality.
