SCOTTISH POM CH SHOW

19 May 2024

Many thanks to the Scottish Pomeranian Club for their invitation to judge, their kind hospitality on the day and the lovely gifts. Huge thanks also to my lovely steward, Sam, who kept the ring running smoothly and efficiently. Finally, thank you to all the exhibitors who gave me the honour of judging their beautiful poms.

There were some very lovely poms with some close decisions, which could easily change on another day as for almost all, it was the 3rd show within 48 hours and some were feeling tired and/or fed up with having to perform yet again. I also appreciate the hall did become rather warm in the afternoon and this also affected some of the girls. I could, however, only judge the poms before me, on their performance on the day.

Some observations causing concern:-

- Mouths (incorrect/bad),

- Ears (large, some wide set, a couple soft/floppy),

- Rear movement (weak and/or crabbing).

There are also still a lot of poms standing long and low (rectangular instead of four-square).

Baby Puppy D/B (2 ent, 0 abs)

1st Reubicia Sunstone, 4mth old orange male, who was of a nice size and in good coat for his age. He has a lovely head and expression, excellent pigmentation, short in back, tail set high and laying flat along his back, he stood four square and moved well.

2nd Reubicia Topaz, slightly paler orange sister sharing many of the same attributes as her brother. She tended to stand a little longer in profile and was a little unsettled on the move but otherwise very little to separate these two littermates.

Veteran D/B (5 ent, 2 abs) – such a lovely class

1st & BVIS Gilberta Wings Magical Eyes at Midawn – a good dual-purpose sized o/s bitch in full coat which was of correct texture and beautifully presented, lovely head and expression, small ears, good mouth, dark pigmentation, good lay of shoulder, good barrel of ribs, her tail was set high with a beautiful full plume, good angulation front and rear, very attentive to her handler at all times, creating a lovely shape when stood and which was maintained when moving freely and soundly .

2nd Ch Densown Sunrise – gave a crowning CC to this lovely dark o/s 7 years ago and it was a pleasure to see him again. Still beautifully compact and standing 4 square, he is fine and dainty with a lovely head and expression, short neck into good shoulders, straight front legs, shortest of backs, good rear angulation and a high set tail. He moved well and was unlucky to meet the winner, just lacked the finish of coat on the day.

3rd Pakov’s Silver Lady

Minor Puppy D (4 ents, 1 abs)

1st Auberge One in a Million – this compact 6 mths o/s was in good coat for his age and stood 4 square. He has a lovely head with foxy expression, small ears, dark eye, straight front legs, good lay of shoulder and short in back, good rear angulation, tail set high and laying flat along his back, alert and attentive to his handler, a confident, free and easy mover.

2nd Vibrek Teddy Rose a Felt – another compact 6 mths orange also in good coat, he has good pigmentation, small dark eyes, good mouth, short neck, good angles front and rear, tail set high, moved well when settled

3rd I am Storm Shadow at Snowvilla

Puppy D (3 ent, 1 abs)

1st Lireva’s Wild and Wonderful – so much to like about this small, 9.5 mths bright orange, very typey and of ideal size and shape. He has a lovely head with foxy expression, small ears set correctly, dark sparkling eyes, good mouth, short neck into good lay of shoulder, front legs straight, good barrel of ribs, level topline, short in back, good plume to tail which was set high, presented in beautiful coat of correct harsh texture. Moved well, retaining the desired round-ball shape, in this class.

2nd Yoshe The Wonder of You – another orange with a lovely head and expression, slightly bigger all round than winner but all in proportion, good angles front and rear, level top line, tail set high with good plume, good profile movement.

Junior D (2 ent, 1 abs)

1st Vibrek Bring Me Sunshine – liked this 13 mths o/s for size and type. He has a lovely head and expression, small ears set well, dark pigmentation, small dark eyes, correct mouth, short in neck to good shoulders, front legs standing straight, good ribbing, level topline, tail set high and carried flat along his back, appropriate rear angulation, compact in shape, standing 4-square, moved well.

Novice D (2 ent, 0 abs)

1st & BPIS Sueacres Centre Stage – this o/s is so nicely balanced and well constructed, standing 4 square at all times, alert and attentive to his handler creating the desired profile shape when stood and this was maintained on the move. He has a beautiful head and expression, small ears set well, dark sparkling eyes, correct mouth, short neck into good lay of shoulders, nice straight front legs, good barrel of ribs, level topline, tail set high with good plume, appropriate rear angulation, in good coat of correct harsh texture, the soundest of movers.

2nd Gordost Oskola Yulik – this 18 mth orange was a little bigger than 1 but was compact and a nice shape. He was lacking confidence when stood but has a lovely head and expression, small ears, good mouth, good barrel of ribs, short in back, tail set high.

Post Grad D (3 ent, 1 abs)

1st Kazpom Don’t Let Go JW – a beautifully presented bright orange of ideal size and classic pom shape. He has a lovely head with foxy expression, small ears correctly set, dark sparkling eyes, correct mouth, short neck into well placed shoulders, fine boned, front legs were straight, small cat-like feet, good barrel of ribs, level topline, short in back, appropriate rear angulation, good plume to tail which was set high, coat was of correct harsh texture, moved well.

2nd Gordost Oskola Yulik

Limit D (5 ent, 1 abs)

1st & RCC Sueacres Kisses of Love JW – previously judged as a puppy, this fine-boned orange sable has matured nicely. He is of ideal size, compact and was presented in good coat which was of correct harsh texture. Small ears set well on a lovely head with typical foxy expression, good mouth, dark pigmentation, short neck, good shoulder placement, straight forelegs, level topline, high set tail, appropriate rear angulation. Alert and attentive to his handler, he stood four-square to create the desired shape when viewed in profile. Moved soundly and retained his shape.

2nd Altina’s The Bronx at Sarasate – close up to winner, this red boy was another of ideal size and shape with similar attributes to the winner. This boy was also fine-boned and dainty, in good coat of correct harsh texture, has a lovely head and expression, slightly larger ears, correct mouth, is short in back, lovely plume to high set tail which reached his ears and moved soundly. So little to separate these two, just on the day, this boy tended to stand longer than 1st when viewed in profile.

3rd Kazpom No Doubt JW

Open D (7 ent, 3 abs) – a strong class teeming with quality, where all were more than worthy of winning 1st place and each appealing to me in different ways, making for extremely close and nit-picking decisions. I had judged the first three at my last CC appointment and thank the owners for giving me the privilege of judging them again as mature adults.

1st , DCC & BIS Reta’s Sex in Flames at Breezelyn – a dainty, fine-boned black I had previously judged as a junior. He has matured so well and pulled out all the stops to win this class. He is my ideal size and shape - he stood 4-square at all times, alert and attentive to his handler giving a beautiful classic silhouette shape when viewed in profile. Lovely head & expression, small well set ears, good mouth, short neck into good lay of shoulder, straight front forelegs, good chest and ribs, level topline, ultra short in back, high set tail, appropriate rear angulation. Well presented coat of correct harsh texture. Moved sound and true with a little buoyancy. My eye kept being drawn to him and I was thrilled to award him his crowning CC.

2nd Ch Altina’s Henry Higgins JW – close up to winner, this light orange was in profuse coat of correct texture which gave him the appearance of being bigger than he actually is. He is well constructed throughout, compact and stands 4-square giving the classic round pom shape. He also has a lovely head & expression, small ears set well, small sparkling eyes, correct mouth, dark pigmentation, short neck leading to good lay of shoulder, good barrel of ribs, short in loin, high set tail with full plume reaching to his ears, moved well and retained his shape.

3rd Ch Lireva’s Wildest Dreams

Spec Beginners D (no ents)

Minor Puppy B (8 ents, 2 abs) - a lovely class of beautiful, promising babies.

1st & RBPIS Altina’s Scarlet Ribbons to Midawn – this dainty clear orange caught my eye on entering the ring, very showy and attentive to her handler. She has a pretty head with a feminine and foxy expression, small ears set well, good dark pigmentation, correct mouth. She has well-placed shoulders, straight fine-boned forelegs, good barrel of ribs, level topline, tail set high and laying flat along her back, appropriate rear angulation. In good coat for her age and this was of correct texture. A confident showgirl, she stood 4 square and moved soundly.

2nd Lireva’s When Stars Collide – close up was this orange baby who stood 4 square presenting a nice round shape. She has a lovely head and expression, small eyes sparkling with mischief, correct mouth, dark pigmentation and the smallest of ears which were hidden by a wealth of head coat. Compact in stature but with a huge puppy coat, she has good angles front and rear, good ribbing, level topline and a high set tail. Moved soundly with attitude.

3rd Altina’s Arizona

Puppy B (4 ents, 2 abs)

1st Breezelyn Ginnovation – lots to like on this beautifully presented o/s who was full of pom character, a nice size and shape and good coat for age of correct texture. Alert and attentive to her handler, she has a lovely head and foxy expression although would prefer a smaller ear, sparkling dark eyes, good mouth. Short neck into good shoulders and straight, fine-boned forelegs, short in back, good plume to tail which was high set and carried flat along her back. Moved true and sound when viewed from all angles.

2nd Super Glamur Mriya (Naf, Taf) – heavier boned compared to 1st but she is compact in shape and is constructed well with a nice head and expression. Unfortunately, she lacked confidence today and was reluctant to move.

Junior B (3 ents, 0 abs) – very little to choose between all three.

1st Altina’s Hint of Brooklyn – this dark o/s presented a nice shape and size and was in good coat of correct harsh texture. She is fine-boned and dainty, and has a lovely head & expression, small ears which were set well, dark eyes, good mouth short neck, good lay of shoulder, straight forelegs, good barrel of ribs, level topline, tail set high with a good plume and carried flat along her back. Stood 4 square and moved well

2nd Lireva’s Just on a Flutter – close up was this orange who was also of lovely size & shape, she was alert and attentive to her handler, foxy expression, slightly bigger ears than 1, dark eyes, good mouth, good angles front and rear, tail set high and had a good plume, in good harsh coat, moved ok

3rd Mi Misuzi’s Flower Power for Breezelyn

Novice B (1 ent)

1st Craigivar Black Bramble – dainty and fine-boned black with a pretty head and expression, small ears set well, small dark eyes, good mouth. She has a short neck, appropriate angles front and rear, level topline, short in back, tail set high. Moved well.

Post Grad B (5 ents, 1 abs) - a mixed class seemingly affected by the warmth of the hall and unfortunately dropping their tails.

1st Altina’s Martini for Carberry – this o/s is of ideal dual-purpose size and was in full coat. She has a good head with foxy expression, small ears which were set well, dark sparkling eyes of nice size and shape, short neck, good ribbing, forelegs were straight, level topline, tail set high and had a lovely plume, moved freely

2nd Midawn Wendy Darling – liked this white who was a nice shape & size, she has a nice head and expression with small well set ears and the blackest of pigmentation, she has short neck into well-placed shoulders, straight forelegs, level topline, stood 4 square and moved well, unfortunately, not happy when stood

3rd Abbeyleigh Crystal Chimes

Limit B (7 ents, 2 abs)

1st Aacharmoe’s Queenie – this fine and dainty orange was full of pom personality, lively and vivacious but also alert and attentive to her handler when required, she has a lovely head with feminine and foxy expression, small ears set well, sparking dark eyes, correct mouth, short neck into well placed shoulders, straight forelegs, good ribbing, level topline, high set tail with good plume and carried straight along her back, appropriate rear angulation, in good coat. Stood 4-square creating the desired round shape in profile, moved well with a little buoyancy.

2nd Lireva’s You Are My Sunshine - beautifully presented bright orange who was also fine and dainty in stature, with good head and foxy expression, correct mouth, appropriate angulation front and rear, good barrel of ribs, level topline, lovely plume to tail which was set high and carried flat along her back. Moved soundly. A close decision with 1, just today appeared to be bored with showing and lacked the “sparkle” of 1.

3rd Zaandam Lady Libra for Pawfectpoms

Open B (5 ents, 2 abs) – another lovely class, with all three present appealing to me.

1st , BCC & RBIS Ch Altina’s Tudor Rose – beautifully presented orange, who displayed a round shape when viewed from all angles, she stood 4-square all the time, alert and attentive to her handler, short in back, high set tail with a full plume reaching her ears – the desired round-ball shape when stood and maintained on the move. She has a lovely head and expression, with small ears which were well set and completely disguised by her abundance of head coat, dark pigmentation, correct mouth, so well constructed throughout and sound movement.

2nd & RCC Ch Lireva’s Gloria Swanson – a lively and vivacious orange who certainly known how to keep her handler on her toes, she is another who is well constructed throughout and has a lovely head and expression with small ears set well, dark pigmentation and a good mouth. She is fine and dainty in stature, good barrel of ribs, high set tail which had a full plume and was carried straight along her back. Today, a little racey on the move meant she lost her round shape compared to 1st

3rd Sueacres Legend of the Fall for Petitpoms JW

1st & Best Special Beginners in Breed Edkbangels Zennia – orange dual-purpose size in full coat of correct texture which was well-presented.
