My thanks to the Officers and Committee for a well organised show, my stewards for keeping the show on the road and the exhibitors who valued my opinion enough to give an entry. I found good depth of quality in the males, especially the parti colours with some very promising youngsters coming through. My disappointment for the day – some top quality dogs and firm favourites of mine were presented overweight and/or over coated so had to pay the penalty.
All the “best in show” decisions were made with full agreement with my co judge Angela Mclaren Marson, with the males dominating the key awards
ANY SOLID COLOUR SPECIAL PUPPY DOG – 5 entries, 1 absent
1 Ellison’s WITHIFLOR GENTLEMAN
Headed a very mixed class, with some to spare. This black is raw but showing much promise and has everything in the right place at the right amount for his age. He impressed me for breed type and balance, has correct angulation both ends and well developed in forechest for his age.
2 Brookes’ BRUXLY BLACKJACK
Another black of good type and balance with appealing head and eye. He needs to develop in front, width and depth.
3 Stokes-Harrell’s VILLASPANIOL BORN THIS WAY INTO CHEZZA’S
ANY SOLID COLOUR SPECIAL GRADUATE DOG – 3 entries, 1 absent
1 Ellison’s WITHIFLOR TOUCHSTONE
Black & Tan that won this class on maturity. His head is very attractive, strong front assembly, big ribs to short loin and well angulated quarters which were well muscled. Moved sound with style holding a good shape in profile.
2 Young’s CANYONN BLACK CAVIAR JW
Another quality exhibit of correct type and balance. He needs time to develop on but I am sure he will make the grade. Shows excellent breed type and balance as you would expect from his breeders.
ANY SOLID COLOUR SPECIAL OPEN DOG – 2 entries, 0 absent
1 Wiggins’ SH CH SNOWGATE ONYER BIKE TO SCAPAFIELD JW
This red dog excited me more as a youngster and although he is well constructed and is of good breed type I feel he is not so defined as he once was. He scores in head over 2 and has more accurate footfall in hind action. I feel that better presentation could improve the overall appearance.
2 Pearce’s KENWAD BLACK GROUSE AT MISKA JW
Quality black that is well made throughout, not the head or compactness of 1. Beautifully presented even though he doesn’t look to have the easiest of coats. He has good ring presence and moves sound with style.
ANY PARTICOLOUR SPECIAL PUPPY DOG – 3 entries, 0 absent
Two lovely puppies at varying stages of development.
1 Whitehead’s RYALLCOURT STEP IN TIME
Black & white stylish dog with a cracking profile that just cannot be ignored. He is very well made which is confirmed when he is on the move. Super front with plenty of depth for his age, well sprung ribs, short loin and strong, well muscled quarters. Sound as a pound!
2 Harrison’s GLENBROWS BLUE SHERBERT
A typey light blue that pushed 1 all the way. He is very much up my street, although not as mature as 1, giving away a few months. I would also like to see him with more confidence on the move with his mind on the job. Will watch his development with interest.
3 Turner’s RYALLCOURT EGGSTRAVIGANZA
ANY PARTICOLOUR SPECIAL GRADUATE DOG – 3 entries, 0 absent
1 Hackett & Sheridan’s LINDRIDGE STAR ATTRACTION JW
Light blue of true cocker type as you would expect from his breeding. His head is of good proportions and he is well constructed. He moves sound with enthusiasm holding a level topline. He needs to fill his frame which he will do with maturity. Much more to come I am sure..
2 Craig’s ALISMA AMARILLIO JW
Dark blue of different type to 1, but correct all the same. He scores in lay of shoulder, has big ribs and a short loin with good width over the rear. He moves sound but really didn’t give his all today.
3 Beddows’ GLOWHILL STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
ANY PARTICOLOUR SPECIAL OPEN DOG – 1 entry, 0 absent
1 Scotland’s LYNWATER ANYTHING GOES
One that I have long admired and have been watching him develop, love his type and balance. His head is beautiful with plenty of work, correct balance and chiselling. His front is well made with plenty of depth, strong bone with well padded catlike feet. He is square in profile with well spring ribs extending well back to short loin with good width over the rear. He is sound on the move. Pleased to award him the res CC in good company.
ANY COLOUR VETERAN DOG – 3 entries, 0 absent
A pleasing trio of gentlemen.
1 Pearce-Gudger’s SH CH CACHEL PRINCE CHARMING OF PEARKIM JW
This orange boy just keeps on giving and improves with age. He has an attractive head with kind eye, well made front, mature in rib and body. Moves sound with style. He is in tip top condition, a credit to his owner. Not quite the balanced picture of my winners in profile.
2 Collins’ CASSOM SKY ROCKET AT CANDYKE JW
Dark blue of good breed type and well constructed throughout. Moves sound and his topline is still level at 10!
3 Dewhurst’s GLOWHILL HAMMER TIME AT LAPIDARY ShCM
ANY COLOUR MINOR PUPPY DOG – 8 entries, 2 absent
1 Harrison’s GLENBROWS BLUE SHERBERT (2nd in an earlier class)
2 Ellison’s WITHIFLOR GENTLEMAN (1st in an earlier class)
3 Pearce-Gudger’s PEARKIM PIETRO
ANY COLOUR PUPPY DOG – 5 entries, 1 absent
1 Stokes-Harrell’s VILLASPANIOL BORN THIS WAY INTO CHEZZA’S
(3rd in an earlier class). This exuberant golden managed to get it together in this class instead of his earlier performance of movement that was impossible to assess. He is balanced, fairly mature for his age and of sound temperament, having said this I find him too strong for his age and I do hope that he doesn’t mature on too much.
2 Turner’s RYALLCOURT EGGSTRAVIGANZA
This delightful naughty light blue deserved his placing here for his breed type and balance. He is well constructed, short and cobby and moves well, however, he needs better schooling and more puppy coat taken out to enhance his shape.
3 Pop’s MERRYSOUL CAN’T BE LEGAL AT BOCABLUE
AMY COLOUR JUNIOR DOG – 3 entries, 0 absent
1 Darby’s CLASSICWAY CALL TIME JW
This young dog filled my eye for excellent breed type and the flow from head to tail. He is so well balanced that each part fits seamlessly into the next with correct proportions throughout. He scores in head type and kind dark eyes, moderate neck into textbook front assembly with depth adequate for his age. His ribs are well sprung, extending well back to short loin. His topline is firm and his tail set and carriage are perfection. He moves effortlessly covering the ground with ease showing correct width fore and aft, reach and drive in profile. CC with no hesitation.
2 Yorath’s I WILL BE FORTUNE TELLER FOR WITKO
This orange is maturing nicely. Well ribbed, short in loin, good bone and neat feet, moved sound. More attention to coat required.
3 Harvey’s TOMERINE FACT OR FABLE
ANY COLOUR YEARLING DOG – 3 entries, 0 absent
1 Hackett’s LINDRIDGE HARBOUR LIGHTS
One from the top drawer with super breed type and balance. He is of good medium size with strong bone and plenty of depth, stands four square. He has a cracking head with kind expression, well made front, big ribs and short loin. He was shortlisted for the CC, although I would like less weight on him and less coat.
2 Bayliss’ WILANORAH WE WILL ROCK YOU JW
Typey dark blue of good overall balance, appealing head with kind expression. Well developed in rib, short loin and strong quarters. Not the width over the rear of 1. Moved sound with drive.
3 MacLean’s LYNWATER BLACK AND BLUE
ANY COLOUR NOVICE DOG – 3 entries, 0 absent
1 Williams’ WILMERELLA HIGHLANDER
This is a striking young blue that needs to be handled to be appreciated. His head is of typical shape and balance with dark expressive eyes. Shoulders are well laid back with matching upper arm, his ribs are well sprung for age, short in the loin and strong, well muscled quarters. His movement is sound with purpose.
2 Dewhurst’s GLOWHILL SILVER ARROW AT LAPIDARY
Mid blue of different type and one that will take a lot longer to come together. Not the head or body development of one at this stage. He is well construction throughout, I believe he will be worth the wait.
3 Pop’s MERRYSOUL CAN’T BE LEGAL AT BOCABLUE
ANY COLOUR GRADUATE DOG – 5 entries, 0 absent
I found this a difficult class to judge due to the variation is type and performance.
1 Jones’ OKTUMI STAR CHASER
Up to size blue with typical head and expression. Well made front with good depth. Moved sound holding a level topline. First class presentation.
2 Darby’s ALLERTS DON VIKING AT CLASSICWAY JW (IMP SWE)
Good type of blue with lovely balance. Appealing head with good depth to body. Moved sound but not a happy chappy, apparently due to a recent bad experience.
3 Parkhouse’s FEDERICO HOABROE HEART FOR SHIVANI (IMP RUS)
ANY COLOUR POST GRADUATE DOG – 6 entries, 0 absent
1 Marris-Bray’s GLOWHILL GALLIVANT JW
This blue had to be judged to be appreciated as I found him overcoated on the day. Under his jacket lies a really typical cocker with nothing exaggerated. His head is most appealing, moderate neck into a well made front with good depth. His ribs are well developed and extended well back to short loin, topline is firm, quarters are well muscled. His movement confirms his construction, sound.
2 Grist’s KASORDON FIRESTARTER
I really do like this black for type and balance, he has a classic head with dark expressive eyes. His front construction is strong with mature ribbing, short in loin and strong in quarters. He appeared to be up tight when moving today, difficult to assess.
3 Bevis & Norie-Miller’s POPOCATEPETL TOMFOLLERY
ANY COLOUR MEMORIAL SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG IN MEMORY OF R & T M BEBB – 6 entries, 1 absent
1 Saunders’ CARMELFAIR COROCENZO AT OXFORDOGS
One of my favourites, have watched him come on and how his presentation has improved over the time. His head is masculine without any coarseness, his front is well made with depth to brisket, good in rib and short in loin. He present a balanced picture and is in good coat in the right places. He moves ok holding a firm topline.
2 Walton’s ANNASIDE LET’S DANCE
This black has a lot to like with his appealing head. He has a sound front assembly with fore chest! Excellent presentation! Would like a more accurate hind action.
3 Jones’ OKTUMI STAR CHASER
ANY COLOUR LIMIT DOG – 3 entries, 0 absent
1 Bond’s OLIBOND NOT A BOTHER
A cracking dark blue that is so good to handle with moderation and breed type in spades. His head is masculine with good balance, his front is text book, mature in rib, short in loin, great thickness to thigh, strong bone and neat feet. When he moves he is sound, however in the challenge he became flat. He was in my shortlist.
2 Collins’ BARTONHOLM PRINCE OF TIDES AT CANDYKE JW
Another attractive blue with many of the same attributes. Not quite the movement of 1 today.
3 Bayliss’ SHIREPARK SIR FRANCIS DRAKE BY WILANORAH JW
ANY COLOUR OPEN DOG – 3 entries, 1 absent
Two lovely boys
1 Hackett’s LINDRIDGE FRONT RUNNER
A firm favourite of mine, so my cuppa with breed type and balance that I crave, another that I have had my eye on for a while. He has an a very attractive head, his front assembly is delightful to handle, his ribbing is mature, he is short coupled with strong quarters, short below the hocks. I was disappointed to find him carrying too much weight and coat for me today.
2 Williams’ SH CH WILMERELLA OUTLANDER
This blue is so different in type to 1, however it was a tough decision as he surprised me when handling. He is a lovely type of cocker with shapely head with expressive eyes. He moved so well today holding a firm topline. Just preferred the type and balance of 1. Close up.
