Crufts

Breed: Manchester Terrier

It was a pleasure to judge at Crufts and I would like to express my sincere thanks to all who entered. Having had a considerable break from the showring I was able to assess the changes within the breed over this period. I was extremely impressed with the much-improved temperament, all exhibits were confident on the table and behaved impeccably on the floor – well done to all. However, tail carriage, eye shape and eye colour are a concern, and these are breed points that I would advise breeders to pay particular attention to when planning litters.

Veteran Dog (5,0)

1 Miss L & Miss M Olbinson & Kelly’s Paucelin Andoni at Carapast

Looking superb. Quality stamped and presented in tiptop condition, a credit to his owner. Masculine with no coarseness, A lovely head with good placement of ears. Eyes correctly shaped and dark enough. Good depth of chest and moved with drive. Enjoying and delivering his best on the day.

2 Mr D & Mrs A Hebb’s Paucelin Falster JW

Another quality stamped, masculine male. Pleasing outline and slight arch over the loin to a muscular rear. Plenty of substance and bone. Wedge shaped head, ears well placed to be held correctly. Moved with good reach and drive from behind.

 Puppy Dog (3,0)

1 Mrs J Walker’s Wystry Depths of Glory for Sizlin

Very promising dog puppy. Head strong and ears placed well enabling the best of expressions. Well laid shoulder and length of neck. Markings well defined without being overly strong. Already has a quality stamp about him and will no doubt further strengthen and develop as he matures. Presented immaculately and with appropriate muscle tone for his age. BP

2 Ms M & Mr G Davies & Brown’s Wystry Agony and Ecstasy

Pleasing outline with a nice crest of neck. Good feet, straight front and correct angulation allowing for good drive from behind. Moved out well and with confidence. Ears were unsettled, hence expression did not fully complement his lovely wedge shaped head.

Junior Dog (4,1)

1 Miss F Lancaster’s Erkenwyne Wildfire

A promising young dog with plenty to like. Eyes were correct, dark and almond shaped. Moved with confidence and purpose both across and round the ring. Kept balance and topline. Ears could be better but with increased confidence will hopefully be used to enhance expression. Marking were clear and tan rich. Physically he still has a way to go, further bodying up and development of depth will come as he matures.

2 Mrs V & Mr H Williams-Wegmann & Wegmann’s Talanors Typically Trouble for Essvana

Slightly unsettled but plenty to be pleased about. Has the most fabulous small ears, perfectly placed and beautifully held. Thumbprints strong and tan dark. Would prefer a slightly stronger head with more length and strength of muzzle. Presented in gleaming black coat and hard muscular condition.

Post Graduate Dog (2,0)

1 Mrs E Bunning’s Ysabelkid Dusty Fog TAF

Stood well and showed himself to advantage. Slightly unsettled on the move and lost some straightness as he moved away. Head strong and complimented with excellent eye shape and colour. Straight front with a firm topline. Good hind angulation and well-muscled hind quarters. Ears on the larger side, but well held when stood.

2 Miss C Swart’s Plantocracy Dapper Dexter

Presented in excellent condition, glossy coat and good colouration. Stood well on the table and was attentive to his handler. Good length of neck. Struggled to settle and this reflected in his ear carriage and consequently expression. Ears quite large and not used to best advantage. Movement could be better, tendency to move close behind.

Limit Dog (2.0)

1 Mrs L Broadhurst’s Eaglespur Dutch Showman

Good body shape, with correct length of neck and well-set tail. Has good bone and substance, proportionate and masculine. Great head with strength and fill under the eye. Good colour and shaped eyes. Ears were excellent, good shape, size and placement. Would like slightly stronger thumbprints. Movement was slightly unsteady and not always true.

2 Ms M & Mr G Davies & Brown’s Wystry Dempsey's Tipple JW

Lighter boned than 1st placed dog, though maintained masculinity. Has a neat small ear, but was clearly struggling with the noise within the halls. Lovely eye shape and potential for excellent expression once his ears are able to be used to advantage. Handled with understanding and sensitivity – well done.

Open Dog (9.2)

1 Mr F & Mrs P Warner’s Ch Talanors Time for Fun ShCEx DCC

A strong masculine head with a good reach of neck and a well laid shoulder. Depth of coat colour excellent and presented in excellent condition. Marking were strong and clearly defined. Eye shape good. Stood well and was attentive to his handler. In profile, pleasing outline and held topline whilst moving. Moved with confidence and purpose.

2 Ms A Barkowsky’s X-Pected Dine Mites Why Not Finn RDCC

Smart dog with plenty of ring presence. Glossy black coat, strong clear markings. Presented in tip top condition, fit, muscled and carrying the right level of condition. Handled extremely well, moving at the correct pace to enable drive and balance to be maintained throughout. Ears were a good size and enhanced expression when stood. Ears became more erratic when moving and detracted from the overall picture.
