Judges Report Bulldogs Midland Counties 2024

My thanks to the Officers and Committee of Mid Cos for their kind invitation to judge, their hospitality and providing me with two able stewards.

I would like to thank the exhibitors, many of whom were new to me, for entering their lovely dogs and giving me the second highest entry in the Utility Group. Without exception every exhibit was presented in clean healthy order – thank you. Those of you who know me, are aware that I like decent tails and hind angulation, the latter really coming on in leaps and bounds, the former we still need to improve on, pump handle tails have always been in the breed standard. Where we are getting better hindquarters and hip scores we are losing desired Bulldog skimming hind movement, just three exhibits with it on the day, however it’s probably a good healthy swap. Limit Dog was a truly outstanding class, nine dogs present and every single one of them worthy of top honours, I didn’t want to judge it. I decided by splitting hairs and personal preference but if you were in the class and disappointed don’t be, if I were in Moscow and able to give you all a ticket I would have done! My B line up was fabulous and again all well worthy of green and white cards. One other observation, quite a few exhibits were not carrying sufficient show condition, there is a difference between fit and thin. If a Bulldog lacks rib coverage, the shoulder tack on makes them fall away behind the shoulder and just ruins the look of symmetry and it did affect some of my decisions.
