Border Collies Bournemouth Championship Show 12th August 24

Thank you to Bournemouth Canine Association for your kind invitation to judge at your show.

I was absolutely delighted with the size and quality of my entry. This did mean however that in some classes the quality was so good some exhibits I have admired in the past had to settle for lower placings or even go cardless. Decisions had to be made on preference and performance on the day and many could have changed places on a different occasion. Sadly, the heat was certainly affecting some.

I was looking for a dog that looked like it could do the job it was intended to do, so construction, soundness and balance giving typical Border Collie in movement and type were fundamental in my decisions.

1st Kempton’s Art Of Blossom Drowned In Emotion into Borderbrook Naf (Imp Esp)

Lovely puppy of just 7 months. He has the best of male heads for his age with an alert, but melting expression aided by correct oval eye shape and well placed and used ears. He excels in front and rear angulation and is very well balanced. He has a lovely body shape with correct neck length and croup and good bone. He moved and showed well for his age and was expertly handled. He is as expected at this age very raw, but shows loads of promise.

1st Lee & Ratcliffe’s Jaybob The Shining

8 months old pup with a lovely make and shape. Good male head developing with correct oval eyes and well set and used ears. Loved his darkly marked head which gives a keen and alert expression. He stood straight at front and rear with good bone, had good balance, correct length of neck, loin and shape of croup with long tail. His coat is just coming, but it is in good condition.

He moved well in all directions to win this class with settled stride and holding his topline. Shows promise. BPD

2nd Portman’s Laceway Black Sabbath

Handsome puppy just 12 months with a lovely sooth outline.Lovely young masculine head with correct oval eye, good ears and alert expression. Parallel front and rear with good bone and angulations. Well balanced with long neck, good croup and long tail. Moved well. Another promising pup.

3rd Kempton‘s Art Of Blossom Drowned In Emotion into Borderbrook Naf (Imp Esp)

1st Gregory’s Tonkory Wait And See

Lovely balanced lad of 17 months old who appeared on the smaller size and lacking on coat at the moment, but a lovely type and so well constructed. Lovely head with good stop, oval eye, good bite and uses ears. Very well angled front and a lovely long sloping neck, angled croup, good bend of stifle and long tail to give a good balanced shape. Good bone and stood parallel front and rear. Has nice steady smooth movement holding his topline.

2nd Mead & Geering’s Quintopia Master Of Puppets (A.I)

Very handsome and masculine 17 months old dog who is maturing well. Lovely balanced head with oval eyes and good well used ears giving a lovely expression. Well angled front and rear, lovely sloping neck and croup giving lovely body shape. Very good bone and long tail. Lovely coat and condition. Moved well out and back and has good reach and drive. Well handled.

3rd Smit-Siraal, Smit & Wiltshire’s From Borders Home Kryptonite

At 13 months this was baby of this class. Lovely dark head and markings. Lovely dark eye and ears with a keen alert expression. Lovely neck and angles and has good bone and good tail length. Not so settled on move as first 2 today.

Stunning 22 months old with lovely shape and balance. Lovely handsome dark head with correct oval eyes and well set and used ears giving the best of expressions. Good neck and croup with long low set tail. Well angulated with straight front and rear and good bone. Good front reach and balanced movement. Maturing nicely.

At 2 years old this young man set a beautiful picture. Handsome head with correct proportions and lovely stop. Correct oval eye and lovely ears which were well used. Keen, alert, but a melting expression. Correct bite. Gorgeous balance and good angulation. Lovely length and slight arch of neck, lovely body shape and croup with good tail length.

Moved smoothly with reach and drive and sound coming and going. Gorgeous coat and condition and very well handled. Absolutely loved him and he just lost out on top honours due to maturity. RCC

17 months B/W still maturing. Handsome darkly marked head with well set and used ears, lovely oval eye and keen, alert expression. Good angulations, croup and tail set. Lovely length of neck and good bone. Moved well out and back just a bit exuberant at times.

2nd Pashley’s Caleykiz Winds Of Change

5 year old dog with a lovely dark masculine head, lovely oval eye and good ear set giving an alert intelligent expression.

Well angled croup and low set tail of good length. Stood straight front and rear with lovely bone. Well handled and moved well around ring.

4 year old of a lovely type who just shouts Border Collie. Very handsome masculine head with well placed oval eyes and lovely well set and used ears, and a melting expression. Well constructed with lovely balanced front and rear angulation. Lovely length of neck and loin and well angled croup. Good bone with parallel front and rear assembly. Moved out really well with reach and drive and was sound coming and going.

2nd Green & Paterson’s Arrodare Family Tradition Jw

Lovely darkly marked young dog of 2 years who is still maturing. Set a lovely outline in profile, lovely head and oval eye with well used ears. Keen, intelligent expression. Lovely body shape and balance with long arched neck and well angled croup and enough bone. Well set and really long tail. Excelled in his controlled movement which was tireless, free with reach and drive. So well handled to set a beautiful picture.

3rd Hartfield’s Moshanta May Contain Nuts Jw Shcex Osw

5 years old handsome boy of a different type and setting a lovely outline. Lovely head, with well placed oval eyes, well set and used ears, correct bite and lovely expression. Lovely shape with a long arched neck, correct croup and good balanced angulation. Straight front and rear with good bone. Moved really well in all directions holding his lovely topline. He hardly took his eyes off his mum and was so responsive to her showing his keenness and intelligence.

Lovely 5 year old dog of a type I admire who is masculine, but not overdone and who looks like he could do a days work. Lovely head with correctly placed oval eyes, well set and used ears and keen, alert expression. Lovely balanced body shape and perfect amount of bone with good length and arch of neck, and angled croup. Correct tail set and length. Super front and rear angulation which is balanced and shows in his movement which is tireless with reach and drive and low lift of feet. He sets a beautiful picture even though he appeared slightly out of coat he could not be denied his award. Thank you for bringing him. DCC

Another worthy champion of a different type who was handled to perfection and so well constructed. Lovely handsome male head with well placed oval eyes and well set and used ears giving a lovely mild but keen expression. Balanced construction with long arched neck and lovely shaped croup. Stood straight front and rear with perfect balance. Tail well set and of correct length. Well off for bone, but not course. Powerful ground covering movement with reach and drive and low lift of feet. Thank you for bringing him.

Another dog of lovely type and a worthy champion of 4 years old. Lovely head, oval eye and melting expression. Well set and used ears. Well constructed and angulated with good bone. Good balanced neck length, shape of croup and low set tail carried well. Moved out well with reach and drive and minimal lift of feet.

10 years old handsome darkly marked dog who excels in movement and type. Handsome all male head set on correct length of neck with correct placement of his oval eyes. Well set ears which were sensitive in use. So well constructed and perfectly balanced. Perfect amount of bone and substance. Powerful movement in all directions with reach and drive and low lift of feet. Sadly, feeling the heat for the challenge.

2nd Portman’s ShCh Caleykiz Smoke On The Water

12 year old blue/white dog who lost out to younger dog on the day, but I just loved him. Lovely make and shape and one I have admired from outside the ring. Correctly proportioned all male head with well placed oval eye and well set and used ears. Lovely front and rear angulation and well balanced body shape with arched neck and angle to croup. Moved well with reach and drive and minimal lift of feet.

Young lady of 2 years old with a lovely make and shape. The most beautiful head and melting expression with oval eyes and the best of ear sets which were sensitive in use. Balanced angulation, lovely neck and croup. Straight front and rear with good bone. Long low carried tail. Moved very well with reach and drive and low lift of feet. So well handled and they were at one with each other setting a lovely picture.

Moved well with control in all directions and with low lift of feet. Well handled and I am sure will have a bright future. BPB & BP

Another pretty young lady of 7 months who was very close up to one and of similar type. Beautiful head developing with oval eyes, well set sensitive ears and a lovely expression. Lovely shape and balance from well angulated front and rear with long neck and lovely croup. Low set tail with good length. Good bone and stood straight front and rear with strong short hocks. Moved well in all directions. Another to watch.

3rd Green & Ratcliffe’s Fayken Here I Am

Very raw baby of 6 months, but with loads of promise. Beautifully constructed with very good angulation front and rear which was balanced. Good length of neck and croup and wet set tail of good length. Head still developing with well set ears. Moved very well with reach and drive and low lift of feet which gained her this place. Her day will come.

Young lady of 12 months and just still in puppy who has a lovely shape and make. Lovely head with oval eyes and very well set ears which were sensitive in their use giving a keen expression. Balanced angulation with good length of neck and shape of croup and long low set tail. Good bone and oval feet. Just a bit exuberant on the move, but this showed her drive.

2nd Lee & Ratcliffe’s Jaybob Child’s Play

Young lady of 8 months with a lovely shape developing, but just in that in between stage at the moment. Very pretty head with correct oval eyes and very well set and used ears giving a keen and alert expression. Lovely neck length and shape to croup with long low set tail. Good strong bone with short hocks. Movement just a bit unsettled today. But shows promise.

3rd Kempton’s Borderbrook Lucky in Love

Very pretty young lady of 10 months with a lovely head, oval eyes and very well set ears which were sensitive in their use. She has a melting expression. Lovely front and rear angulation and a lovely arched neck of correct length and a lovely croup and long well set tail. Lovely double coat coming and in beautiful condition.

Moved out well and sound coming and going, but just needs more time to mature in body, but another showing promise.

Pretty blue/white young lady of 16 months with a lovely make and shape. Beautiful shape head with correct oval eye and well set and used ears. Correct and balanced angulation and strong topline. Arched neck and a good slope of croup. Good bone and stood straight front and rear on short hocks. Well set tail of good length. Moved freely with reach and drive and minimal lift of feet. Just coming back into coat.

2nd Angier & Stacey’s Bilyara Isn’t She Lovely (AI)

Very pretty young lady of 17 months of a lovely type and body shape who is maturing well. Lovely shaped head with oval eyes and well set ears and keen alert expression. Good angulation with very good bone and lovely double coat and texture. Moved very well out and back and showed reach and drive with minimal lift of feet.

3rd Lampier’s Taranza Voodoo

Pretty 15 months young lady less mature than first 2 in this class, but of lovely type and shape. She has a lovely head shape with oval eye and well set sensitive ears. Good balanced construction and well angulated front and rear. She is sound coming and going, but really excels in side gait showing reach and drive with minimal lift of feet.

Very pretty young lady of 18 months of lovely make and shape. Lovely shaped head, oval eye and sensitive ears with an intelligent, but melting expression. Very balanced shape with good angulation, lovely arched neck and shape to croup. Perfect amount of bone and long well set tail, Stood parallel front and rear with good width of chest. Very balanced and sound on the move showing reach and drive.

2nd Wilkinson’s Altricia Bobbys Girl

Beautiful Blue Merle of 18 months setting a lovely picture and maturing along the right lines. Lovely head with correct oval eyes and well set sensitive ears. Well angulated with good length to her lovely arched neck and correct slope to the croup. Strong but not heavy bone and stood straight in front and rear. Moved really well in all directions showing a tireless gait.

Lovely dark face girl of 23 months with well shaped head, correct oval eyes and well set and used tipped ears giving a keen and alert expression. Very sound in construction and nicely balanced with good angulation and parallel front and rear and lovely amount of bone.

Lovely moving girl and another very sound with a lovely driving action and minimal lift of feet.

Very pretty 2 years old sable girl. Lovely head with correct oval eye shape and colour and good ear set. Slightly arched neck, correct angle to croup and good balanced angulation. Slightly finer type, but still enough bone. Moved well when settled, but a bit happy with her tail.

Very good front and rear angulation with good bone, neck length and croup. She moved well in all directions.

3rd Spencer’s Tobermoray Driving Ms Daisy

Another different type, but a lovely 3 year old girl. Lovely head with oval eye and well set and used ears. Good front and rear construction and well angled with correct bone and long low set tail. I believe she has recently had a litter and is still carrying some puppy weight. Moved well in all directions when settled, but a bit exuberant today.

Moved out really well coming and going and with lovely side gait showing reach and drive and low lift of feet. So attentive to her handler and I just loved her, considered her for the Reserve Ticket

Lovely type girl of 3 years old. Pretty head of correct proportions with lovely oval eye and well set and used ears giving a perfect border collie expression. Lovely front construction and bend of stifle with long arched neck well angled croup and long low set tail. Balanced with topline held on the move and moved really well with reach and drive and minimal lift of feet.

3rd Wiltshire’s Caleykiz Passion For Power

Lovely young girl of just 2 years old and maturing nicely. Nice shape and make and you could see her doing a days work. Good head with oval eyes and well set and used ears. Good angulation with correct length of neck, croup and tail set. Enough bone, oval feet and short hocks. Moved really well with reach and drive and low lift of feet securing her place in this lovely class.

1st Green & Ratcliffe’s ShCh Fayken I Am Here Jw

I have judged this stunning 5 year old lady before as a puppy and she still does not disappoint. Not a flashy girl, but perfectly constructed with lovely balance and there is no doubt she could do the job she intended to do. Lovely proportioned head with oval eyes and well set ears. She is so attentive to her handler and has a keen alert expression. Well angulated and balanced with the correct length of neck and slope to croup with a well set and carried tail of correct length. Strong but not heavy bone and short hocks and she stands parallel front and rear. Movement is so sound coming and going and shows a true Border Collie side gait with plenty of reach and drive with low lift of feet and a powerful ground covering action. She is just coming back into coat, but her overall quality could not be denied. Well deserved BCC and BOB and Pastoral group 3

2nd Lee & Ratcliffe’s ShCh Arrodare Royal Flush Jw

Another beautifully balanced blue/white girl of 6 years old and at peak maturity who just draws your eye and I just loved. Lovely head and oval eye with a perfect set to her ears which were well used giving a keen expression. Lovely angulation front and rear and totally balanced with correct length to neck, angle of croup and low set long tail. Perfect bone standing straight in front and from behind with strong short let down hocks, slightly sloping front pasterns and oval feet. Well presented and in lovely coat. Moved out with purpose, but totally controlled and smooth with reach and drive and minimal lift of feet holding her lovely shape which gained her award. RBCC

Another beautiful 5 year old lady who is again so well balanced. Pretty well shaped head with correct oval eye and well set ears which she used well giving a beautiful intelligent expression. Super construction with lovely front and rear angulation with a lovely arched and length of neck, lovely croup, tail set and length giving a lovely balanced shape. Good bone and short well let down hocks and oval feet. Lovely movement coming and going and side gait with reach and drive. Super condition and so well presented and handled.

The first word in my notes on this girl states beautiful and she is. She is so well made and balanced and at eight years old still moves like a youngster with a free, smooth and tireless gate. Lovely head and melting, but keen expression with super set and use of her ears. Super construction and body shape and well angulated front and rear. Perfect bone and sloping front pasterns and well let down short hocks. I have admired her from outside the ring since she was a minor puppy and she does not disappoint going over her. So worthy of all she has achieved, but just out of coat today. I just

Another beautiful bitch that I have judged before and have placed well and love. Lovely head with oval eye and well set and used ears. Super alert expression. Lovely balanced shape and angulation with nice arch and length to neck, lovely croup and tail set. Super angulation and shape and good bone standing straight front and rear with and short hocks. In very good coat making her appear heavier than the others in the class and beautifully handled. Lovely movement in all directions holding her topline, just unlucky to meet the winner.

3rd Fawcett’s ShCh Laceway Echo Falls Jw

Another super lady who is 9 years, but doesn’t show it. Lovely balanced head with lovely set and well used sensitive ears and alert expression. Lovely shape and good balanced angulation lovely neck and croup. With low set tail. Good bone and stands parallel front and rear. Moved very well in all directions just looked a bit out of coat today, but I loved her make and balanced shape.
