Bournemouth Canine Association Championship Dog Show Pikes Farm, Organford, Poole, BH16 6EU Saturday 10th, Sunday 11th & Monday 12th August 2024 YKC Handling Classes Thank you to BCA for the kind invitation to judge YKC Handling and for your hospitality. I am so pleased to say I think the standing of YKC Handling is excellent and each day the sportsmanship between handlers was lovely to see. I always look for a natural, quiet but confident handler who builds a good rapport with their dog, and enables them to shine. Day 1: Class 690 YKC handler 6-11 years (8) 1st Eva Scott handling a Tibetan Spaniel, dressed smartly to compliment her dog. Eva’s dog seemed to prefer free-standing which she took advantage of and free stood her dog accurately. Eva had very tidy control of her lead and showed me all three sides of the teeth clearly. On the move, Eva used the correct pace for her dog with lovely straight lines in her pattern work, whilst keeping an eye on her charge. In the final line up, Eva kept more of an eye on her dog than me, ensuring her dog looked its very best which made her stand out today. Well done! 2nd Jack Davies handling a Tibetan Terrier. Jack was a very neat handler who had an excellent rapport with his dog. He was very polite when asked to show the teeth, which he did very well, and complete his pattern work. Jack moved his dog perfectly - he used the large ring space on the around with neat corners and straight lines. Great lead control throughout the class. Well done! 3rd Jayden Scott handling a Hungarian Vizsla. Class 691 YKC Handler 12-17 years (9, 3a) 1st Megan Slack handling a German Shorthaired Pointer. Megan’s handling is so natural and flowing that her dog really does shine as if she’s not there. Megan kept the lead tidy and well placed on her dog so it was unobtrusive. This pair moved seamlessly with Megan easing her dog into the correct pace and using all of the ring space. The teeth were shown gently and clearly and Megan stacked her dog a good distance away on completion of her pattern work. A polished performance which was quite honestly spotless - well done! 2nd Isabelle Collier handling a Flatcoated Retriever. Another handler who I would confidently trust with one of my own. Isabelle handled sympathetically and made an excellent effort in simply freestanding her dog as typical for the breed. The teeth were shown very clearly and gently. Isabelle used the size of our ring to her dog’s advantage with neat corners, straight lines and a tidy lead to complete the picture. 3rd Kaitlin Collier handling a Miniature Poodle. Class 692 YKC Handler 18-24 years (5, 1a) 1st Abby Webb handling a Tibetan Terrier. A very neat and natural handler with a great rapport with her dog. Abby stacked her charge perfectly at every opportunity and showed the teeth very cleanly. On the move, Abby set off from my feet and steadily built up into the best pace for her dog with neat corners which resulted in a very fluid performance. 2nd Min Withyman handling a Dalmatian. Min caught my eye early on for making the most of our ring with her dog moving on long strides at the correct pace. Great lead control throughout the class and a good effort made to free stand her dog, only stacking when necessary. I appreciated how patient Min was when her dog became a little unsettled and took the time to resettle and get the best out of her dog on the move again. 3rd Yakira Michel handling a German Shorthaired Pointer. Day 2: Class 1298 YKC Handler 6-11 years (2, 1a) 1st Libby Rycroft handling a Smooth-Haired Dachshund. A lovely gentle and sympathetic handler who quietly encouraged her dog from start to finish. Libby used the large ring to her advantage and completed her pattern work accurately with very straight lines. Very polite and smartly dressed to compliment her dog. Well done! Class 1299 YKC Handler 12-17 years (10, 4a) 1st Isabelle Collier handling a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. First class handling - quietly confident and very neat! Isabelle’s lead was always tidy and unobtrusive on her dog. She moved her charge at the correct pace with the straightest lines. Lovely rapport built between this pair which enabled their performance to flow seamlessly. 2nd Emily Moores handling a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. A very neat handler who was very patient and sympathetic with her dog. Excellent use of the ring with sharp corners and I was impressed with how well Emily matched her pace to her dog to move as one. The teeth were shown clearly and gently despite her dog giving her a challenge. 3rd Kaitlyn Collier handling a Pomeranian. Class 1300 YKC Handler 18-24 years (4, 2a) 1st Min Withyman handling a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. Very quiet, calm and confident handling with a lovely rapport built between handler and dog. Min kept her lead perfectly tidy and showed all three sides of the teeth clearly. Perfectly accurate stacking each time and the pair moved together as one with sharp corners and straight lines. Would have preferred a little more use of the ring on the around but otherwise a spotless performance! 2nd Phoebe Toublic handling a Basset Hound. I really liked Phoebe’s sympathetic handling. Phoebe moved her dog at the correct steady pace and completed everything asked of her confidently and quietly without hesitation. The teeth were shown clearly and Phoebe stacked her dog accurately each time. On the move I could see Phoebe consider her dog’s length on the corners to keep them as neat as possible and she kept an eye on my position throughout. 1 just had the edge on lead tidiness today which was all that split these two great handlers. Day 3: Class 2089 YKC Handlers 6-11 years (7, 2a) 1st Myla Mae Hanes handling a Bedlington Terrier. These two made such a lovely pair with a great rapport between them. Myla was a very neat and gentle handler, always aware of her dog and I’s positions. Myla’s table work was great, she stood infront of her dog to keep their attention with her lead nice and tidy and Myla showed the teeth clearly and gently. Myla was very polite when asked to complete her pattenwork and kept an eye on her dog throughout - well done! I am sure a bright future ahead. 2nd Molly Whisker handling a Border Terrier. A very polite and sympathetic handler who gave her dog lots of encouragement which was lovely to see. Molly showed me the teeth gently and all three sides clearly. Molly’s corners were lovely and tight on her triangle and she moved her dog at a good pace - well done! 3rd Libby Burke handling a Manchester Terrier. Class 2090 YKC Handlers 12 - 17 years (11, 1a) I would briefly like to thank and congratulate every handler in this class - placed/unplaced. All of your handling skills were top-notch and so the final line up came down to serious nit-picking! It was lovely to see the great sportsmanship between handlers too. 1st Megan Slack handling an Australian Shepherd. Megan’s natural and sympathetic handling really shined through in this class. Despite her dog trying to give her a challenge at times, Megan stayed calm and adapted when needed to show her dog off to its best. Her stacking was always accurate with her lead almost invisible. The teeth were shown clearly and Megan moved her dog at a steady pace, taking advantage of the ring space. In the final line up, Megan’s focus was largely on her dog which drew my eye in. Another impressive performance - well done! 2nd Livia Boryc handling a Samoyed. A smartly dressed handler to compliment her dog. Livia stacked her dog accurately and kept her lead very neat throughout the class. On the move, Livia built up to the correct pace and slowed down to a good pace on her tight corners which kept her performance flowing. When looking down the line, Livia’s rapport with her dog was clear to see as she took advantage of being able to stand back from her dog with quiet communication which allowed her dog to take the limelight. 3rd Francesca Wilson handling an Australian Shepherd Class 2091 YKC Handler 18-24 years (3, 3a) Judge: Meaylee Lewis (Fairwinds)
