Border Collies - Judge Marion Turner (Germal)

Firstly I would like to say’ thank you’ to the committee for inviting me to judge and being such generous hosts. It was a privilege to judge at this most prestigious show. I was delighted with my entry and thank you to everyone that entered and travelled.

A big thank you must also go to Hilary Kerr who supported me the whole weekend and was my steward for the day, as usual she did a fantastic job at keeping me and everything on time and the exhibitors updated.

The Committee had given me a generous size ring, which I really did appreciate, as this gave me the opportunity to really assess movement on this wonderful breed, which for me is paramount.

I was greeted on my approach well by the majority of border collies and it's encouraging to see that our breed still has such a sound temperament.

Bitch quality on the whole is certainly better than the dogs and in lots of classes I was spoilt for choice but on saying that my BOB was a dog who has everything I was looking for in this athletic breed.

Minor Puppy Dog 3

1st Alexander & Turner Lochiel Freeze Frame.

A lovely youngster, with overall correct proportions for his age. Lovely shaped head Correct scissor bite and lovely eye colour. Strong neck into well laid shoulders. Very nice length of upper arm with adequate hind angulation for his age. He was sound both ways with a steady side gate showing good reach and drive. Won this class with his true Border collie movement. A very promising baby.

2nd Durham Pencoppen High Flyer.

Another nice youngster, who needs time to settle. Good shape head and correct eye colour. Well laid shoulders and correct tail set. Moved sound in both directions and around the ring,

Puppy Dog 1

1st Portman Laceway Black Sabbath.

A very promising youngster. Masculine expression with correct eye shape and colour. Correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, correct upper arm with ample bone. Nice rib and correct tail set. Sound both ways, with steady side gait which showed lovely reach and drive.

Junior Dog 4

1st Mead & Geering Quintopiaa Master of Puppets.

What a lovely junior who just needs time. I liked a lot about this dog. Standing he is attentive to his handler and looks the complete picture. Lovely correct shaped head and eye colour. Correct scissor bite. Strong neck. Lovely laid shoulders and correct front. Good length of upper arm and rib. Lovely tight oval feet. Just the right amount of muscle for his age. He was sound both ways with a steady side gate showing good reach and drive. Considered him in my final cut for top honours for his overall correct confirmation and breed type.

2nd Longhurst Simmovon Charm Writer at Spotarton.

This is another promising youngster. Just preferred the head on my 1st place Correct shape eye and colour. Nice neck into lovely well laid shoulders. Correct length of tail. Sound both ways and around the ring.

Yearling Dog 3

1st Ritchie Huntly By Design at Dykebar.

This was my star of the day. Standing he made a lovely picture and going over him did not disappoint. A dark dog with a lovely shaped head which was not overdone with correct eye colour. Correct scissor bite. Strong masculine neck into well laid shoulders. Very nice length of upper arm with good hind angulation for his age. Good depth of brisket and ribbing. Strong pasterns and tight feet with level back and correct croup. Good set tail. This dog has beautiful balance, excellent type with correct bone and substance for his age. Presented in firm condition. He showed excellent reach with drive around this large ring with a minimum lift and keeping his top line .I awarded him the CC and BOB today for his overall excellent confirmation and breed type. 2nd Lee & Green Fayken I Am Soul.

Another quality dog who I liked a lot, these two dogs I am sure will change places on different days. Lovely type of Border collie nothing overdone. Nice head with correct shaped eye and colour. Correct Scissor bite. Masculine neck into laid shoulders. Correct pasterns with lovely tight shaped feet. Just the right amount of bone. Moved round this large ring with reach and drive, keeping his top line.

1st Uglow Caleykiz Drive with Power.

This dog certainly keeps the handler on their toes. Masculine head with correct amount of stop and eye colour. Correct scissor bite. Good neck into laid shoulders. Correct angulation and croup. Moved round the ring with correct reach and drive.

2nd Woodrow & Oliver Tambuzi Ride The Storm.

Another nice dog with a good shaped head. Correct shape eye and colour. Correct scissor bite. Just needs a little more time to mature. Moved sound coming and going and around this large ring.

Post Graduate Dog. 4

1st Lewis Shemella Moon River.

Nice size dog of good breed type. Masculine shaped head with correct stop. Good eye colour. Well set ears correct reach of neck into laid shoulders, he was well balanced throughout with good angles and proportions. Lovely tail carriage. Really liked this dog’s side gait showing fair reach and good drive.

2nd Small Malindibeach Woodforde.

Correct size dog with masculine shaped head and eye colour. Correct scissor bite. Good laid shoulders and angulation. Nice tail set Sound movement out and back and around the ring. Just preferred the reach of neck on my 1st place but otherwise a nicely made sound dog.

1st Green & Paterson Arrodare Family Tradition.

Medium size dog of quality. Lovely breed type. Correct scissor bite. Lovely masculine head with correct eye colour. Nice reach of neck with correct shoulders. Strong pasterns with nice tight feet. Lovely tail set. He was well balanced throughout and showed this when moving in harmony with his handler keeping his topline when moving round this large ring.

2nd Murfet Tambuzi Stryke of Fate.

Another very nice quality dog. Just preferred the outreach movement on my winner. Nice head with correct shape eye and colour. Correct scissor bite. Well set ears and correct reach of neck into correct shoulders. Nice tail carriage on the move. Moved sound out and back and around this large ring.

1st Green & Ratcliffe Sh Ch Fayken Truth Or Dare With Arrodare

A lovely dog, so true to breed type. Masculine head with correct eye shape and colour giving him a lovely expression. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. He was balanced throughout with good angles and proportions. Good bone with strong pasterns. Good depth of ribs. Well set and carried tail. Moved with good reach and drive. This dog's construction is very sound. You could see his strong rear hind quarters with good angulation when powering round this large ring. Res DOG CC

2nd Smith Arrodare Wont back Down.

These two dogs I am sure will change place on different days. I just preferred the out and back movement on my winner but on saying that this is another quality dog with so much to like. Lovely head and expression. Correct shaped eye and colour. Correct scissor bite. Good bone with lovely strong pasterns. Correct tail set. On another day this would have been my 1st place winner.

1st Lee’s Sh Ch Master Of illusion JW

Black and white dog of medium size. Lots to like about this dog. Masculine shaped head and eye colour. Correct scissor bite. Lovely reach of neck into laid shoulders, he is well balanced with correct angles. Just the right amount off bone with strong pasterns and lovely tight feet. Strong hindquarter. Well set and carried tail on the move. He was sound both ways with a lovely side gait and moved in unison with his handler.

2nd Spencer Ch Tobermoray All About Banksy Sbcht JW

A dog I have judged before and liked. Nice head and ear carriage. Good bone with strong pasterns. Strong hindquarter. He was sound both ways and around the ring.

Special Beginners Dog or Bitch 3

1st Lea Calareto all My Loving JW.

A lot to like about this sweet bitch. Handled to perfection. Feminine head with correct shape eye and colour. Correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck and well balanced in profile when stood. Good rear angulation. Move soundly with drive around the ring keeping her top line. Best Special Beginner.

2nd Jaskolski Piece Of Happiness Mickey JE (imp Hun)

Good masculine head with correct eye shape and colour. Correct scissor bite. Good rear angulation and tail set. Just needs time and wasn’t in full coat today.

Minor Puppy Bitch 8 (1)

1st Lee & Ratcliffe Jaybob Childs Play.

What a lovely puppy, oozes quality. Stood attentive to her handler. Very feminine head with correct eye shape and colour. Correct scissor bite. Everything on this puppy is made correctly and nothing overdone. Well set and carried tail. Movement out and back was true to type and completed the picture. I am sure she has a very promising future.

2nd Green & Ratcliffe Borderpride Laced In Truth By Fayken.

I was splitting hairs between these two youngsters and I am sure they will often change places depending on how they mature. Just preferred the angulation on my winner. Lovely feminine head with correct eye shape and colour. Correct Scissor bite. Correct reach of neck for age Lovely shoulders. Correct tail set. Moved sound out and back and around the ring.

Puppy Bitch 6 (1)

1st Green & Ratcliffe Arrodare Fire It Up.

Saw this bitch walk into the ring and thought what a beauty and she didn't disappoint once I went over her. She was everything I was looking for in a puppy and I am sure she has a bright future. Lovely head and expression with correct eye shape. Correct scissor bite. Good front and depth of chest. Nice neck, correct shoulders. Just the right amount of bone for her age with good length of rib. Correct tail set. Beautiful angulation that allowed her to flow around this large ring. Considered her in my final line-up for the res CC. Best puppy

Another nice quality youngster. Feminine head and expression. Correct eye colour. Correct scissor bite. Nice neck and correct shoulders. Good front and nice depth of chest. Lovely length of rib. Good angulation and moved with drive around this large ring.

Junior Bitch 5

1st Oliver Tambuzi The Heat Is On JW.

A very pretty bitch nothing overdone. Correct scissor bite. Feminine head shape and eye colour. Good length of neck and correct angulations. Correct tail set. Shown in very good condition. Lovely side gait, sound coming and going but excelled once moving around the ring, which won her this class.

2nd Wettern-Bloomfield Alpana Summer Storm.

Liked this bitch a lot, such a shame she left her coat at home but saying that she had nothing to hide. Lovely feminine head good reach of neck. Correct scissor bite. Good front assembly. Good rear angulation with the right amount of muscle tone. Correct tail set. Good reach and drive and kept her top line on the move. Moved round the ring with drive.

1st Ritchie Huntly Dark Secret in Dykebar.

On looking in the catalogue this was the litter sister to my dog CC winner. This bitch certainly keeps her handler on his toes. Standing looks the part. A dark bitch with a lovely head and correct eye shape and colour. Correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck into correct laid shoulders. Good angulation. Just the right amount of bone for her age with good length of rib. Lovely tight feet and correct tail set. Just the right amount of muscle. Once settled moved round the ring with reach and drive. A star in the making! Res Bitch CC

Another nice bitch with a good head correct shape eye and colour. Correct scissor bite. Nice front and rear angulation. Correct amount of bone and muscle. Nice tail set. Preferred the out and back movement on my winner. Just needs times to settle.

1st Surridge Roydenbark Casablanca

This bitch stood alone but taking nothing away from her she has a very feminine lovely head and correct eye shape. Correct scissor bite. Nice reach of neck and correct shoulders. Correct tail set. Sound movement out and back and around the ring.

Graduate Bitch 5

1st Gregory Tidespring Hope And dreams Via Tonkory

Quality breed type bitch so nicely made. Lovely feminine head with correct shaped eye and colour. Good reach of neck. Correct scissor bite. Well laid shoulders. Good front assembly. Correct rear angulation with the right amount of muscle tone. Lovely to see her keep her top line on the move. Loved her reach and drive on the move showing how a true border collie should move.

1st Wiltshire Caleykiz Passion For Power.

Liked her as soon as I saw her come in the ring and when I went over her she did not disappoint. An outstanding B & W bitch of quality and breed type. Not flashy but has a lovely feminine head with correct eye shape and colour. Good reach of neck and laid shoulders. This bitch is well balanced throughout. Strong bone good pastern and tight feet. Good depth of brisket and excellent croup and tail set. She was sound both ways with a steady side gait and the more I moved her the more she settled and flowed round the ring. On speaking to the owner this was her first CC. I am sure more will follow. Bitch CC

2nd Mcconnachie Your Still the One At Thistleskye

Another quality bitch with a good head correct shape eye and colour. Correct scissor bite. Lovely reach of neck. Good front and rear angulation. Correct muscle tone. She was sound in her movement.

1st Farris Tobermoray Heaven Sent For Flintrix

Another beautiful bitch of good quality and breed type. Nice eye colour lovely head and well set ears. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Correct amount of bone and muscle. Lovely angulation Good fore chest. Level back into correct croup and tail set. This bitch won this class on her flowing movement and breed type.

2nd Morley Chirkaramor Hall Of Fame.

Lovely quality bitch. Lovely feminine head a nice shaped eye and colour giving her lovely expression. Correct scissor bite. Lovely reach of neck into well laid shoulders she was balanced throughout with just enough angulation. She was sound both ways with good side gait showing good reach and drive round this large ring. These two bitches I am sure will often changes places as they are both of lovely breed type quality.

I was spoilt for choice in this class and was just splitting hairs on my first three placings.

What a lovely quality bitch. Very feminine head with well-set ears good reach of neck into well laid shoulders lovely all over body shape. Correct scissor bite.

 Strong hindquarters with correct amount of muscle delivering excellent movement coming and going. Correct tail set. Lovely flowing movement around this large ring. It was a pleasure to go over her. Handled well and shown in excellent condition.

2nd Lee & Ratcliffe Sh Ch Arrodare Showdown JW.

Another quality bitch with the most feminine head, lovely ear set and nice eye colour. Correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck into lovely laid shoulders. Correct tail set. Has lovely muscle tone and showed in top condition. Moved sound both coming and going and around the ring, I really was splitting hairs between these two dogs.

1st Fawcett Sh Ch Echo Falls JW.

I liked both my 1st and 2nd placings a lot. This bitch is a credit to her owner. Showed and handled in excellent condition. She is well muscled for her age. Medium size she has correct eye shape and colour. Correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck into lovely shoulders, balanced rear angles. Correct amount of croup. Lovely tail set. Very sound out and back and powered round the ring with drive. Best Veteran
