Crufts

My thanks to the Crufts Committee for inviting me to judge the breed, a long time coming due to Covid! But a breed I always

admire, and they didn’t disappoint today. Thanks to my two stewards for keeping the ring flowing. Some were unfortunately in

their bikinis today, so had to pay the price. My thanks to the exhibitors for bringing me such a lovely entry of Lapphunds and

taking my decisions so sportingly.

Veteran Dog

1ST Bridus Heikki (Mrs S H A Lock) Always good to start a breed with some quality, and today was no exception. This 9 yr

old bl/tan set the scene. He was of a good size with ample bone, lovely head piece, with good width of skull and nice ear set,

Well defined stop, lovely eye shape & expression, strong muzzle, good front and rear angulation, touch close on the up and

down, but lovely profile movement.

2ND Oberitz Upponalle (Mr N, Mrs C & Miss S Samuel) – brown & tan of 8 years old, another nice size & balance, lovely

head and expression, eye in contrast with colour, good front angulation, nice body with good ribbing, nice rear, touch straight on

hock, preferred the up & down on this dog, nice profile movement.

1ST Elbereth Oreokeksi at Lappiness (Mrs J Brache) – This 10 mth old bl/tan topped the puppies today, a lovely batch of

puppies coming through. Correct size and bone, good head, correct width of skull, with good ear carriage, correct amount of

stop, lovely eye shape & expression, strong neck, lovely forequarters with good width, enough ribbing for age, holding a good

topline, good rear quarters, with good turn of stifle, and strong hocks, topline needs to level out a touch, but that will come with

age, moved well, Pleased to award him Best Puppy

2ND Elbereth Etiainen at Lintukoto (Miss E & Mr S Meikle & Henderson) – litter brother to 1, and hot on his heels, not as

mature as 1, but again, plenty of time of this, head needs to broaden, and needs a touch more width on front, but all to play for

as they grow up, lovely rear with good width of stifle, touch closer on the up and down, which is to be expected at the moment,

but lovely profile movement.

topline, good rear width nice turn of stifle, parallel front and rear, lovely profile movement.

1ST Elbereth Lapinpeikko (ai) (Mr B & Mrs A Thomas) – 4 yr old bl/tan, for me the most typyish in the class, lovely head and

expression, correct amount of stop, well-shaped eye and expression, strong neck, nicely angulated front, can be a touch lazy,

but made up for it in other areas, nice ribbing & loin, lovely rear with good turn of stifle, strong hock, was the best mover in the

class.

2ND Tabanyaruu Yosmo Rukankoti (Mrs G & Ms L Upshall & Mowatt) – nearly 3 yr old bl/tan, another nice shape & size,

would like a touch more stop to complete the picture of his head, but lovely eye & expression, again, nice angles front and rear,

but would dlike a touch more width on front, nice rear, with good turn of stifle, pleasing on the move.

1ST Limishka Vainamoinen (Miss K L Anderson) – 3 yr old sable dog, lovely overall shape & bone, super head and

expression, with correct skull, good ear set, correct amount of stop, strong muzzle, solid neck, going into well angulated

shoulders, front parallel with rear, and strong, nice depth of brisket, adequate ribbing and good loin, holding a firm topline, lovely

rear with good turn of stifle, strong hocks, moved well.

2ND Pavoskas Forest JW (Mrs S & Mrs V & Mr J Critchlow & Francis-Christie & Francis-Christie) – 2 yr old sable, nice

overall size & bone, lovely head piece, with good eye & expression, enough stop, nice skull, and ear set. Pleasing front and

rear angulation, for me, just lost out on coat, wasn’t as typical as 1, moved well.

1ST Ch Elbereth Tuulenpoika JW (Mr B & Mrs A Thomas) well, I was like a kid in a candy shop in this class, super line up

and heading it up was a 6 yr old bl/tan, lovely size and balance with good bone, lovely head with correct shaped skull, lovely

ear carriage, lovely dark eye which gives desired expression, strong neck, going into well angulated shoulders, good straight

front with correct parallel with the rear, good depth of brisket, good ribbing & loin, holding a good topline, good tailset, correct

rear angulation, with nice turn of stifle, strong low set hock, in good coat, lovely profile movement. Pleased to award him the

DCC. I understand the puppies were by him as well, so showing himself as a sire as well.

2ND Ch Arianrhod Black Sun Aeon at Muzoku (Ms T & Mr E Forsey) – 4 yr old bl/tan, another lovely dog and a worthy

Champion, a more compact dog, super head and expression, lovely neck, good angles front and rear, lovely body with good

ribbing & loin, holding a good topline, pleasing rear with strong low set hocks and nice turn of stifle, another dog who was really

good on profile movement. It was really close between these two today, but I went for 1 as he had the more rustic look about

him for working. Had to settle for the RCC today.

1ST Ch Bridus Pikkumimmi JW (Mrs S H A Lock) – well you would never think that this bl/tan bitch was 11 yrs old. Lovely

overall size and bone, and so feminine, but still looks like she is capable of doing a days work! Lovely head, still has her

chiselling, good expression, good head, nice length of neck, going into nice shoulder placement, parallel front & rear, good

ribbing, holding a good topline, nice rear with nice turn of stifle and strong hock, so lovely on the move, had to reward her with

the RCC and Best Veteran.

2ND Ch Kaijartuu Hopea Noita JW (Mr A Lee) – I must say Lapphunds do mature well, another worthy Champion, 7 yr old

sable, again lovely shape with good bone, super head and expression, correct front & rear angulation, good body with correct

ribbing and loin, holding a firm topline, lovely rear and again, moved well.

1ST Elbereth Vain Yksi Lisää (Mrs P Reynolds) – litter mates to the dog puppies, 10 mth old bl/tan, lovely overall size &

balance, good bone, and feminine, what I would expect a puppy to be at this age, slightly immature head, but well proportioned,

lovely eye shape and expression, good front, would like a touch more depth, but plenty of time for that. Good ribbing for age,

holding a firm topline, nicely angulated rear, and moved well. Showed her socks off.

2ND Elbereth Unisieppari (Mr S Jackson) – litter sister to 1, but quite different at the moment. Bigger and more mature,

possibly bordering on a touch masculine, lovely head with good eye and expression, good skull, and ear carriage, good neck,

nice front and rear angulation, was giving her handler a bit of a hard time and needs to settle on the move.

1ST Tabanyaruu Wihta Kuu Lapsi Rl3ex (Mr A & Mrs R & Miss S Sisley-Smith) – Well what a class this was, don’t think I

have seen so many Lapphunds in one class, apart from overseas. Heading them up was a 4 yr old cream, lovely size and

balance with good bone, lovely head, good skull, and ear placement, good eye shape, I sometimes struggle with the creams to

see their expression, but there was no issue here. Nice length of neck, lovely front & rear angulation, nice width and depth, good

body, nice stifle and hock, moved well especially on profile.

2ND Totally Spies Alex Legend of Raven (Mrs Cj Jakel) – 2 yr old bl/tan, another lovely balanced bitch, I would like her

fractionally bigger overall to complete the picture, but all in proportion, lovely head with good eye and expression, lovely front

and rear angulation, good body with correct ribbing & loin, moved well.

the sweetie jar! Topping the leader board today was this around 3 yr old brown bitch, she fits the standard so well, good size &

balance, with good bone, but still feminine, super head with correct skull & stop, good ear set, correct shaped eye & expression,

good muzzle, strong neck going into well laid shoulders, straight front which is parallel with rear, lovely feet, goods ribbing & loin,

holding a good topline & tailset, good rear with nice turn of stifle and strong low set hock, did everything her handler asked of

her, lovely to see on the move in any direction. Pleased to award the Bitch CC. In the challenge for BOB she was just

effortless, and you could just see her being able to do that all day. She got the BOB, and didn’t disappoint in the group, she

looked and went lovely.
