CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 21st APRIL 2024

Thanks to the committee for inviting me to act as Referee and to judge the Special classes as this show. .

Thanks also to the exhibitors for supporting me, especially those who stayed right until the end for the Stakes Class.

My services as Referee were only required once and that was to decide on BIS and I had two lovely exhibits to choose from. I felt that the dog, Ch Hushwing Wezztlee with Keriquel, was moving that little bit better in the final challenge and awarded him top honours.

Stud Dog (1,0)

1. Hart’s Arctictrek’s Ralph Revels at Zawkkast. Standard fitting, well constructed eight year old with an attractive head and expression. His progeny, from two different litters are not replicas of their sire and there were some variations in type between the two litters. All the offspring do, however, share their sire’s excellent construction and sound movement.

Brood Bitch (5,2)

1. Bowering & Evans’ Penkhalas Kaska. Seven year old grey and white, excellent construction, feminine head and expression who moved well. Her progeny were all from the same litter and could have been clones of their mum. Not only did they share her looks, they were equally well constructed and all moved so well. A hard act to follow.

2. March & Smith’s Ch Janskoo Echoes in Eternity. Eight year old grey and white. Another excellently constructed and attractive lady presented with a large group of offspring, most of which were just six months old and at their first show. The dog from the older litter I did like very much indeed. The younger ones are well angulated but it was difficult to assess some of them properly as they were a bit overwhelmed by the occasion and still getting used to the whole idea of showing. They do show promise and I shall be interested to see their progress as they mature.

3. Johns’s Azgard Kapma for Alepenkye Six year old grey and white, well angulated, very feminine foxy head and expression. Her two offspring were exactly the same make and shape and really should have been able to move as well as their mum but they chose not to. I really felt for their handlers!

Brace (12,6)

1. Wakeling’s well matched pair of dirty faces. A mother and daughter duo with virtually identical markings. Attractive heads and expressions and both very well constructed. Once settled they moved in unison matching strides around the ring.

2. Seaman’s black and white pair. Another very well matched set that were well constructed and well muscled. They did move well as a pair but not quite as positive and in harmony as the winners.

3. Smith’s very elegant pair of white ladies. Very pretty feminine heads. Both have good angulation and correct proportions. Moving soundly but a little sluggishly today.

Christine Grisbrooke Special Open Memorial Stakes (12,5)

1. Spruce’s Mysticwolf Diesel’s Dream Five year old grey and white b. Fits the standard so well, correct proportions, good angulation, pretty head and expression and as sound as a bell on the move. Still sparkling and flowing effortlessly round the ring at the end of a very long day.

2. McInnes’ Inneska Malachite Four year old dark grey and white dog. Masculine head and expression, well constructed, correct proportions. very sound on the move. I liked him a lot and it was a close decision but the winner was showing that little bit better.

3. Caudy’s Penkhalas Amka. Four year old grey and white b. Excellent angulation, pretty feminine head and expression, correct proportions. Moved soundly enough but possibly feeling the effects of a long day as she just wasn’t moving as positively as the two in front.
