BLACKPOOL CH SHOW - WORKING GROUP

Liz Dunhill

It was a pleasure to stand in for Rodney Oldham to judge this working group following his retirement last year. He is one of our great breeder judges who has produced many great Chows over the years as well as being one of our great all-rounder BIS judges. Someone that always had time to chat about dogs and his enthusiasm for the sport over the years holds no bounds. His famous chow and one of my favourites, “Framer’ Ch Towmena in The Frame , a fabulous iconic dog, top dog 2007/8/9/10, and group winner . He would certainly hold his own in the world today.

I was proud to be asked by Steve Hall to judge my second working group and delighted to see him back from hospital (I am sure to make sure everything was ship shape and going to order) and he was there to lead the group judges into the centre of the main ring. The show was well run show by the committee and I know Steve will be super proud of his daughter Michaela for taking over the secretary position in his absence. She did a fantastic job alongside the committee and helpers. Thank you for inviting me.

I shortlisted ten dogs which included:

Alaskan Malamute – Ch Chayo Vasilisa, Bouvier Des Flanders – Ch Bouvpilot Sullenberger, Boxer – Ch Macbarra Kickin Up A Storm at Glenauld, Bullmastiff – Ardhub Nice and Spicy Braeaaron, Dobermann – Amazon Just Let Me Adore You, German Pinscher – Falkor Stand and Deliver, Portuguese Water Dog – Ch Belleville Anjo Negro, Rottweiler – Ch Upmont Al Capone, Russian Black Terrier – Evrussky Black Widow, St Bernard – Ch Chandilmore Heart Beat

1ST Ellis-Payne’s Ch Chayo Vasilisa, Alaskan Malamute, 5 years

Have awarded this fabulous bitch the CC a while ago, when in half a coat, and it was a pleasure to see the mature picture of this beautiful female. Medium/large malamute female of correct proportions, type and substance. I could certainly see her as a heavy freight worker, fit for function. She had all the features - correct feminine head, small well placed ears, dark almond eyes giving a melting expression. Excellent structure throughout, correct forechest and strong core. Correct in shoulder and front, super bone and feet, strong arched neck, topline slightly sloping to croup, with high set full waving plumed tail. Powerful hindquarters, and well let down hocks. In great coat and condition, her static balance was perfect. She ate up the ground in profile and out moved her handler at times. A great working dog, type, size bone, soundness and a wonderful character. Congratulations to a great breeder who consistently produces quality dogs.

2ND Ellis’s Falkor Stand and Deliver, German Pinscher, 17 months

This boy is a cracker! From his wedge shaped head to his well carried sabre tail. Super expression from dark almond eyes and well placed ears, head of correct proportions and type. His sturdy body has nothing to hide. Correct in forehand with tight fitting elbows, straight forelegs and tight feet. Compact body, excellent topline and tailset and balanced hindquarters. He is in hard condition with good muscle tone. This youngster has excellent static balance, coming into perfect free stand. Shiny deep red coat of correct texture. On the move he is footfall perfect, balanced with correct rotary driving action from his rear, holding a smart outline, with firm topline. He didn’t put a foot wrong, and his final performance clinched his second place in the group - poetry in motion. This clever preservation breeder has certainly excelled in her breeding programme with this young boy which is not an easy feet with a rare breed, congratulations.

3RD Deegan & Grainger’s Ch Chandlimore Heart Beat, St Bernard, 4 years

I could not deny this fabulous female a place in this group. I have admired her since she was a youngster. It is so difficult to breed a heavy large breed, of such balanced proportions, type and effortless movement. I take my hat off to the breeder for consistently producing outstanding St Bernards. Strong feminine well proportioned head, with clean expressive eyes. A wonderful character to go over. Strong powerful forehand, large bone and tight feet. Good width to front, and ample forechest. Well sprung ribs and depth to brisket, level topline, correctly set on of tail and powerful hindquarters which she used with drive. Her profile action is faultless, totally at one with her talented handler, navigating the ring with reach and drive. Turned out immaculately with good coat and condition. Congratulations in great company to take group 3.

4TH Evans’ Amazon Just Let Me Adore You, Dobermann, 2 years

Beautiful feminine bitch from this kennel, who are clever breeders, consistently producing the goods over the years. She is medium sized with the most exquisite wedge shaped head of good length, flat cheeks and good head planes. Well placed ears, dark almond eye and strong underjaw. Elegant neck, correct in forehand, straight front with tight elbows and well let down upper arm. Tight feet, well developed forechest and firm, slightly sloping topline. Excellent well set on sabre tail, muscular hindquarters with good angulation, standing straight and parallel. Accurate on the move, she opened up on side gait with impressive reach and drive holding a great shape and outline. Super shiny black coat and fit condition. She’s a beautiful girl who ticked my boxes and put in a great performance to take group 4.
