It’s always a huge honour and pleasure to judge one’s own breed; this appointment was long awaited having been postponed from 2020. A very pleasing entry numbers wise though there seem to be very few males being shown at the moment; 8 males in an entry of 34 is quite concerning. On the other hand, some very nice youngsters coming along that show promise for the future and there are plenty of good bitches.
I was very pleased to see no overdone rears and sickle hocks, and heads were for the most part also improved. Some who looked good stacked disappointed on the move, and vice versa. Quite a few with insufficient fill in front, in the youngsters this may improve with greater maturity.
Class 1010 PD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2236 KNIGHTS, Mr D & STOKES, Mr J Lelaps Time Lord, what a nice start to the day! 8 months bright red pup, good balance of substance and elegance, head masculine and clean cheeked and with high set small ears and sufficient wrinkle, muzzle rather longer than I like but not snipy or narrow and has a good strong jaw, good front, feet OK, short level back and strong rear with correct angulation, high set double curl with good shelf, excellent depth of chest and well-ribbed up, really shone on the move with easy ground covering strides and plenty of drive and reach, a super pup who stood still long enough to earn the CC & BP, will watch his development with interest.
2nd: 2251 ROBB, Miss, Mrs, Mr T, R & A Bahaticca's Waikiki, different type, darker red with very fine coat, nicely balanced head with profuse wrinkle and excellent small ears set high, would prefer darker eye. Plenty of leg and elegance, good front and feet, tightly curled tail, moved quite well, just needs to body up and firm in topline, and straighter in stifle than I like.

1st: 2251 ROBB, Miss, Mrs, Mr T, R & A Bahaticca's Waikiki
Class 1012 PGD NO ENTRIES
Class 1013 LD (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 2255 VESCAN, Ms C & Dr D Mawali New Kid On The Block, compact solid red, short back, strong rear with broad thigh, plenty of body, good all round conformation, and he moved nicely in profile and going away. Good balance of skull to muzzle but head is too wide and cheeky for my taste, and he isn’t in the best of coats. Honest dog who lacks a touch of refinement.
Class 1014 OD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2256 WILLIAMS, Mr Gareth Jason & WRIGHT, Mr Nicholas Ch Mawali Going Four Gold, handsome red with masculine well balanced head, more refined than his younger brother. Good reach of neck and well balanced angulation, short back, well ribbed up, good feet and pasterns, hocks well let down, excellent profile movement. Would like a touch more forechest.
2nd: 2241 MATTHEWS, Miss Em Flugelberry Free Cuba, 7yo brindle, not showing his age. Well marked with clear stripes on a lightish background. Short back, well balanced head with small ears, strong rear with lean muscle and well-set tail, good depth of chest and tuckup. Would like a little more return of upper arm and not quite the stride in profile of 1.
Class 1015 VD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2224 CLINTON, Miss A Ch Ir Ch Lux Ch Int Ch Westlawn Diablo Sh.CM, 10y/o tricolour, sire of the BOB, like so many Basenjis he has aged very well. Short strong muzzle on well proportioned head, would like a darker eye. Short back with strong loin, square outline, plenty of fill in front, well-balanced angulation allowing him to cover ground both stacked and on the move, which he does really well and he is clean as a whistle out and back too. Not quite the verve of his younger days but still a force to be reckoned with. RCC, his second from me.
2nd: 2247 PALUBICKI, Miss Janette Ch Woodella True Song, another handsome tri, very nice small ears set on top, fine coat and skin, short back, long forearms giving leggy square appearance. Balanced front to rear but not quite the angulation of 1 and while sound all round he could not match the winner’s profile movement.
Class 1016 SBD/B (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2254 STRATTON, Mrs J W Justartee This Is Me, 7 leggy months red with a very pretty head, dark eye and good wrinkle; good length of neck into decent front, neat feet, balanced moderate angulation, fine coat of good colour. Profile movement was very good and clean going away, just needs to fill in front a touch more and a bit longer in loin than I like. BSB, pleased to see her go BSB G4.
Class 1017 PB (5 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2238 KNOWLES, Mrs S M Sarawana Dragon's Conquest, what a lovely type of youngster, very pleasing head with good earset and dark almond eyes, compact square outline, petite with short back and good depth for age, excellent angulation enabling her to stand over ground, tail a single curl but set high with good reach, moved very well when she settled, more forward than her sister at this stage. BPB, just not as together on the move in the challenge as the dog puppy.
2nd: 2228 ENGLISH, Mrs Miriam & ENGLISH, Mr Jonathan Aksaifleet Dada Dunia Of Torqmonky, different type, finer all through, nice head with small fine ears, good coat and colour, nice matching angles, well-schooled and made the best of herself moving, just needs more time to fill out and develop as do all from this litter, they look to be slow maturing types.
3rd: 2237 KNIGHTS, Mr D & STOKES, Mr J Lelaps River Song
Class 1018 JB (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2239 KNOWLES, Mrs S M Sarawana Dragonfire Rising, r/w litter sister to the winner of the previous class, again with a super front, really good through neck and shoulder, short back, good tuck up and enough hind angulation giving a strong free rear, fine quality bone, nice head with dark eye though muzzle could be a tad shorter. Quite a livewire who doesn’t look the easiest to handle but she moved pretty well and it was a close decision between the sisters, this one is more elegant in outline but not quite as mature in body as yet.
Class 1019 PGB (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 2246 PALUBICKI, Miss Janette Jessella Lady Margot, r/w, overall make and shape is pretty good with a very nice rear and plenty of shelf, short back, reasonable front but would like a bit more fill, quite a nice head and outlook; movement OK and clean enough but persisted in moving with her head down and riding up behind. As good a coat and bright red colour as you will see.
Class 1020 LB (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2225 CLINTON, Miss A Akmar Napatan Gold For Westlawn JW, this elegant, super stylish tri is just coming into her own at 20 months; really sound both ends, good feet, plenty of leg, fine boned and gazelle-like without being weedy, with a good depth of brisket and tuck-up; nice head with short muzzle, fine coat with deep rich colours. Moved with purpose and poise with a long swinging stride and complete soundness, and looked fantastic in the Group where she was shortlisted. CC,, her fourth, and BOB.
2nd: 2245 OORLOFF, Mr Rohan Conrad Shyllar Rapt In Gold, I have always liked this typy red but my word she is her own worst enemy! Really pleasing outlook with a super short muzzled head and high set ears, very good front, short back, strong rear though could use a touch more shelf, slightly out of coat but a good colour. Not co-operative on the move, continually pulling away and moving on two tracks, such a lot going for her if she could be persuaded to behave.
3rd: 2243 MATTHEWS, Miss Em Flugelberry Cherie Trifle
Class 1021 OB (7 Entries) Abs: 2
Very good class, as usual the best of the day overall.
1st: 2226 DUNSDON, Mrs Sarah Ch Mawali Four Get Me Not, high class red with classic square outline, short back, well laid shoulder, good fill and reach, high set tail, overall well balanced and with a pleasing head and expression. Movement was generally good and she went well for her young handler, but is rather too keen to get on with things.
2nd: 2223 CASENTIERI, Ms Cj & Mr Tf Ch Zvezdny Alliance Genie In A Bottle (imp Ukr), leggy elegant brindle, good front and forechest, pleasing head, level topline, good feet though could firm in pastern a touch, strong rear with good shelf, excellent coat texture and very well marked, moved very nicely, ribbing cuts up a little bit but this is another worthy Champion.
3rd: 2250 RICHARDSON, Mr Paul & WOOD, Miss Marianne Mombatongaempress Eugenie Of Cooperland (Imp) It .
Class 1022 VB (5 Entries) Abs: 0
Hardest decision today, two super veterans of contrasting type
1st: 2229 GRAY, Mr S & GRAY, Mrs S J Ch Jisgard Daydream Believer, if ever there was an embodiment of longevity in the ring this bitch is it! Elegant and square with a feminine head and outlook, short muzzle and high set ears, eye a touch on the light side. Short back, level topline held well, good feet and pasterns, high set tail, fine coat of deep black colour. Absolutely owns the ring on the move, with free ground covering strides all on a loose lead and proud head carriage. To be critical would like rather more fill in front. No concessions at all needed to her unbelievably almost 12 years; RCC and BV, went on to VG4.
2nd: 2249 RICHARDSON, Mr Paul & WOOD, Miss Marianne Woodella Purple Haze Over Cooperland Sh.CM VW, 9 y/o tri with a cracking head, short muzzle, clean cheeks, typical expression. Good length of neck into excellent shoulder and front with plenty of fill and return, well ribbed up with good tuck up, well let down hocks and moves really well all round. Not in great coat at the moment and her tailset not her fortune, but still so much going for her and pressed 1 hard here.
3rd: 2248 PALUBICKI, Miss Janette Nganga's Princess Snow White (imp Swe)
