Scottish Collie Club Championship Show – Sunday 19th May 2024
Thank you to the Scottish collie Club for asking me to step in and judge June Fort’s entry of males at their championship show. I wish June a speedy recovery.
Thank you to Alyson and the committee for the hospitality and lovely gift, and thanks to my stewards Rosie & Lyn for keeping things running smoothly.
I was pleased to see several quality youngsters, coming up from MP onwards, but was quite disappointed at the lack of quality in adult males. The biggest problem I found today was upright shoulders and short upper arm. You can’t get the correct forward reach if the front assembly isn’t correct.

1st Lockyer’s Salsina’s Red Hot Crush with Gataj
s/w, 8 months. Nicely constructed puppy shown in good coat and condition. Clean head with dark, almond eye and well-set ears. Excellent front assembly, correct body shape. Nice bend of stifle, and parallel hocks. Moved well. Should have a bright future.
2nd Scott’s Chantique Kingdom of Heaven
s/w, 8 months. Another young lad with a super outline. Nice head and expression, a touch deeper in stop than winner, beautiful eye and expression, flat skull and excellent ear-set. Ample bone and substance, just needs to develop in forechest. Moved well, another who will do well in the future.

1st Blaikie’s Kourika the Gigolo
B/m, 10 months. My find of the day! Super puppy with everything going for him. Exquisite head, just the right amount of stop, clean and wedge-shaped, flat skull, moulded foreface, tight lip and super underjaw. He’s got appealing, dark almond eyes set obliquely giving the desired expression. Ears bang on top which he used non-stop. Good reach of neck flowing into well-laid shoulder. Good depth of chest and correct length of upper arm. Well-ribbed with compact loin. Straight topline with slight rise. Well-bent stifles and parallel hocks. Needs to develop in rear, but at 10 months has time to build his muscle. Correct front movement and has a good length of stride. Clear blue colour. I awarded this puppy the DCC & BPD as his virtues far outweigh the only negative I could find. I’ll watch his progress with interest.
2nd Lockyer’s Prince of Sunlight Thrilled by the Difference at Gataj (imp Hun)
Another promising puppy from this kennel. Unlucky to meet the CC winner today. Nice head and expression, dark almond eye. Ears lower set than winner. Good reach of neck and lovely body shape. Well off for bone and substance. Moved very well.

1st Avonfair Aloysius
Upstanding s/w of good size and substance. Nice head with appealing expression and beautiful eye. Lovely outline with level topline. Great reach of neck with slight arch. Well-angulated rear. Would prefer a better lay of shoulder, moved freely. Harsh coat which was expertly presented.
2nd Foster’s Didek Eclipse of the Moon
B/m with classic head and expression, nice eye and good ear set. Level topline and good length of back. Moved out well. Colour needs to clear.
3rd Milne’s Stregato My Highland Dancer

1st Brooker’s Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian
Yet another promising puppy! 11month s/w. Nice wedge-shaped head with good underjaw. Dark eye and well-set ears. Good reach of neck and length of back. Nicely angulated front and rear. Good topline and low tail-set. Moved well from all angles. In beautiful coat and condition.
2nd Lockyer’s Gataj Turn Back Time JW
S/w with a lot to like. His head is broader than I'd like, but he has the most beautiful dark almond-shaped eyes giving a soft expression, well-moulded foreface and good stop, I would prefer ears to be set on a bit higher. Lovely outline standing and, on the move, keeping his level top-line. Moves true front and rear. Well presented.

1st Stregato My Highland Dancer
Jet black tri colour who was keeping his handler on her toes today! He clearly loves being the centre of attention, and so nice to see him enjoying himself! Nice size, but a touch narrow and he needs to fill out in body. His head is in proportion, but lacks stop. He has lovely rich tan markings and excellent ear carriage. Moved with gusto and shows a nice length of stride when he settles.

1st Taylor’s Thistlewing Fire Dancer at Bryany
Like the winner of the previous class, this young dog still needs to develop in body. He has a classic head with good stop and well-placed, dark eyes. Flat skull and good underjaw. Ears are a touch low-set and heavy for me. Well- angulated front and rear with good lay of shoulder. Moved out well. His fitted jacket was harsh and well-presented.

1st Houlihan’s Kourika Frosted Ice
Appealing B/m of good size. Beautiful outline with arched neck, level topline and a slight rise over the loin, which I feel males can sometimes lack. Really well put-together with good lay of shoulder and correct length of upper arm. He’s got a good spring of rib, and a deep chest. His head is so clean, it’s masculine without being coarse. Moulded foreface and lovely underjaw. Dark almond eye and good ear set, giving an alert but soft expression. His coat is harsh with clear blue colouring. Moved with drive. Was very unsettled due to an incident on his way into the show, but with time he settled enough for me to assess him properly. Pleased to award him the RCC.
2nd Hodges’ Jopium Love on the Rocks
Upstanding jet -black tri colour who was not willing to co-operate with his handler today. Lovely size and shape with arched neck of good length. Nice length of back, and rise over the loin. Excellent hindquarters, which are well-muscled and parallel, short hocks. Appealing head and expression, just slightly broader than 1st. Well- placed ears, that he finally used when having his critique written! Moved well.
3rd Cronk’s Chelborn Gambling List
LD (4,1)
Not a lot to choose between the first two and I'm sure they’ll change places often.
1st Francis’ Monsolana Franz von Assisi mit Peblu (imp Rus)
S/w with excellent bone and substance. This boy has a lovely clean, wedge-shaped head with flat skull and good stop. Beautiful almond eye and well-set ears giving the desired expression. Good reach of neck, and nice outline. Excellent angulation front and rear. Good depth and width of chest and well-sprung ribs. Moved well. Unfortunately, he lost his sparkle in the challenge.
2nd Johnston’s Jopium Front Runner with Geosamka
Another lovely sable, I was splitting hairs to separate them. He has all the qualities of the winner and the same remarks apply. My winner just had the edge on width of front. Well-handled and presented.
3rd Thistlewing Fire Dancer at Bryany
OD (6,3)
1st Blaikie’s Kourika you’ll Do for Me
2 years tri with beautiful head and expression. Clean, wedge-shaped head with good underjaw. Dark, almond eye and neat ears, set on top. Arched neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Correct body shape with good length of back and excellent angulation front and rear. Moved well coming and going, driving from powerful hindquarters. In the challenge the only thing on his mind was looking for girls and it cost him top honours. I believe he is already a champion and I'm not surprised.
2nd Cronk’s Chelborn That’ll Do
Another tri with a lot of the qualities of 1st. He presents a lovely picture standing and holds his outline on the move. I just preferred the front assembly of the winner. Shown in lovely coat and condition.
3rd Shipp’s No More Heroes Du Clos De Seawind JW (imp Fra)
VD (3)
1st Proctor’s Wilmaranna Out of the Blue for Cathbri
7 years B/m. Upstanding dog of good size and substance. Typical head, with good stop and flat skull. Well-set ears, which he used well. Nice body shape with correct length to height ratio. Well-muscled hindquarters which he used to advantage. Moved well.
2nd Mills’ Lynmack Starman at Lemivee
Handsome s/w, not as masculine as 1st. Another with lovely body shape who can move out well. Head of nice proportions, just lacking underjaw now. His harsh coat was expertly presented.
