Ulster Chihuahua Club

Breed: Chihuahua (Long Coat)

Ulster Chihuahua Club Breed Ch Show- Long Coat Chihuahua 28/09/2024

It was a huge honor to be invited to award Challenge Certificates in a breed close to my heart. My first show dog, purchased 20 years ago this year was a Long Coat Chihuahua. He opened my life to not only the world of pedigree dog shows but also the delightful world of Chihuahua’s. The entry of 75 was absolutely incredible, considering the travel and cost involved for many exhibitors, and I thank you all most sincerely.

I was so impressed with the quality on the day, especially in the female classes. I feel that overall, the females have a better shape/body proportions than their male counterparts. There were many lovely examples in the males, but when it came to the females I really wished I had more CC’s to award. I am confident the Chihuahua breeders will use them well in their breeding programmes in the future. Thank you to the club for the invitation and to the team of hard working ring stewards for keeping the ring running so smoothly throughout the day.

On a separate note, I would like to remind exhibitors that are unhappy with their placing (for any show, past, present and future) that you have paid your entry fee for an opinion. Please read and follow the Kennel Club Code of conduct when you are unhappy with a judges decision, especially after the judge has explained their decision. Everyone brings the best dog home - at the end of the day, no win will ever change the dog you brought to the show.

2nd Huntley’s JAHNEEMAHS ALTER EGO
This dog broke my heart a little. I could see he wasn’t the happiest on the day, the venue is not the easiest place to show in. He did however show me more than enough to secure his well deserved placing in this class. His headpiece is absolutely magnificent! I will go so far as to say, it was the most beautiful head of the whole day, for me. Gorgeous apple shape to skull. Excellent well set large ears that are beautifully feathered. Large, dark and oh so round eyes. Saucy expression. Excellent length to muzzle. Nice reach of neck into good front. Nice depth to chest. Level topline with nice tail set. Moved well. Another ‘Smooth Coat With Feathering’. On another day, I would have no hesitation to hand him a big green card. A champion title is surely in his future. I wish I could have taken him home.

1st McKenna’s IR CH CHANTICO TINY DANCER
What a glamorously handsome male! Absolutely super for size and shape with his excellent body proportions! Excellent shape to skull. Super dark, and rounded eyes of large size. Super large ears that are nicely set. Nice reach of neck into great front assembly. Nice depth to chest. Level topline, super tail set and carriage. Beautifully feathered coat of excellent texture all over. He moved so well with great enthusiasm, at times he got a little too excited on the slippy floor, but this is just his super temperament coming out and he quickly got his footing back. He holds a beautiful shape both on the move and standing and moves with great drive. He pushed the CC winner hard, I am confident he will one day add a UK title to his name. Reserve DCC.

His skull is a well rounded apple dome, excellent length to muzzle with defined stop. Beautiful dark eyes, large in size and so very round in shape. Large flaring ears that are perfectly set and used well at all times. Beautiful reach of neck, nicely arched into beautifully laid back shoulders. Excellent depth of chest. Very nice front. Level top line with nice body substance. Nicely set tail that was well carried when moving and standing. Well feathered coat in all of the right places, another that is a real ‘ Smooth Coat with feathering’. Coat of excellent texture all over. Nicely angulated and well muscled rear that powered him around a slippy floor. He held a lovely shape when standing and moving. Looking back in an old catalogue after judging, I discovered that I awarded this dog 1st in Minor Puppy at the Long Coat Chihuahua Club Open show in 2019. My notes say “WOW!”. For one so young, she is just so together. Wonderful size and shape. Her body proportions are just absolutely super! Beautifully shaped skull, housing the largest, darkest eyes. Excellent depth to chest for one so young. Great front. Level topline. Super sickle tail. Nicely angulated rear with good muscle for age. This young lady absolutely powered around the ring with the most amazing reach and drive, she was a lady on a mission! When standing and moving she holds the most impressive shape. If she lost the feathering that is coming in, I think her owner could successfully show her as a Smooth Coat too! She knocked my socks off, watch out world! Delighted to award her Best Puppy In Breed & Reserve BCC. Excited to see her go BPIS overall later in the day. One to watch.

2nd Todd- McCoid’s RUBYANLO MAGIC TRIX JW
She came in her Bikini, and that cold hall was not beach weather. Nonetheless, she showed the ringside her lovely shape with nothing to hide. Glorious head! Textbook shape to skull. The sauciest expression thanks to those beautiful large, round and dark eyes. Well set flaring large ears with nice feathering. Elegant reach of neck. Moved well, although I would prefer a little more reach in front. Really lovely overall type.

Champion Bitch (8 entries, 2 absent)

What a power-house of beautifully typey champion girls! A delight to appreciate them.

1st Day’s CH MONICACHI QUEEN OF DIAMONDS JW
This girl walked into the ring and dared me to not make her the winner! She commanded my attention with her impressive show-womanship. She has bags of type and style. I greatly admired her sound construction. Her head is superb, excellent for shape. Best of ear sets with large ears that she used well at all times. Darkest of eyes, so large and round. The sauciest of expressions. Excellent length and width to muzzle. Elegant length to neck that is nicely arched, set into nicely laid back shoulders. Great depth to chest, straight front. Spirit level topline with nice tail set. Well muscled hind quarters that she used to move around the ring like a steam train, displaying great reach and drive. To nit pick, I would prefer her a fraction shorter in back, but I would never hold this against her. She has so very many positives and shouts type from the rooftop! Delighted to award her BCC & Reserve BOB. She Pushed BOB very hard and I was truly delighted to see her called back in and awarded RBIS later in the day. I am so excited to see what she will produce in the future.

Darkest of eyes, super large size and very round. Excellent shape to skull. Well feathered hair and moved well. Such a showgirl, I don’t think she knows she’s a Veteran, let’s not tell her!
