United Kingdom Toydog Society

Breed: English Toy Terrier (Black & Tan)

What a pleasure it was to be back in the ring after so many years absent from the show scene. I would like to firstly thank the UK Toy Dog committee for the invitation to judge, my ring stewards who were both welcoming and knowledgeable and of course, the exhibitors who considered my opinion worthy of an entry, I was very grateful for your support. Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of exhibits we now have in the breed, in particular, the dogs who, in my opinion, have immensely improved over the past number of years. All exhibits were presented in good health and condition, and I would have been more than happy to award CCs to several on the day. Overall size seems to have improved greatly, with much more consistency in the final line up. Breed type has evened out somewhat in my opinion and there is less of an obvious divide between the American influence and the “typical English” type. I found all dogs to be in wonderful coat, especially at this time of year which can be particularly troublesome for ETT jackets. The sportsmanship and support around ringside was also encouraging to witness, with lots of new faces and fans of the breed. Having lost my wonderful veteran Mr Darci in the summer of last year, I feared this appointment may pose me with difficulty, overcome me with emotion and make my job of being around our lovely breed hard to take. However, bitter sweet as this was, I thoroughly enjoyed my day and was grateful for so many new puppies, champions and veterans to admire.

1st -Keylock & Collins’- Lasagesse Paint it Black

I thought this puppy was an absolute dream! Such an eye catching, smart young dog with so much class and quality for his age. Excellent for size, beautiful outline and shape. He has a beautiful, elegant head with well-placed almond eyes and a lovely ear set. Masculine without being over finished. I found him to be proportionate and well balanced throughout, elegant and compact with a lovely topline, excellent tans and markings. Super angulation, well rounded rump, neat feet. On the move, he is sound, steady and well settled for a dog of his age. I am excited to see what his future holds and I am confident he will continue to do well. Pleased to award him BSB, BPD and BPIB.

2nd- Goodfellows- Nasabe Royal Rose

2 year old bitch in lovely condition, excellent for size and shape. Pleasing feminine head with good eyes and ears. Good reach of neck, well sprung rib and good angulation. Moves well from all angles with reach in front and good drive from the rear.

3rd- Dean-Armitts’- Twowayshouse Touch of Class

1st- Francis & Blatchfords’- Ch Witchstone Not Apache On Me For Peopleton Vw

At 9 years old, this dog still brings so many qualities and so much showmanship to the ring. It is clear to see why he has been appreciated by so many judges for his breed type and soundness. Although up to size, he retains elegance and class. Super masculine head with strong jaw, dark eyes and well placed ears. He has an excellent depth of chest, good angulation and topline. Excellent dentition for his age and presented in overall fabulous condition. On the move, he covers the ground well and is “sound as a pound” both coming and going. I have every hope that he will continue to be campaigned in veteran for many years to come. Pleased to award him BVD.

2nd- Naglers’- Ramses Royal Returner

Good for size and shape, this little chap is still very spritely for almost 10 years of age. Pleasing head and ears, nice compact outline with good markings, tan and jacket. Smaller in stature than 1 but not matching him in movement today.

1st- Keylock & Collins’- Lasagesse Paint in Black

My winner of the Special Beginners Class- Please see above for critique.

2nd- Howards’- Lasagesse Jumpin Jack Flash

Similar in type to 1, it was not surprising to later learn they are litter brothers. Lovely for size and overall shape, he has a pleasing masculine head, slightly wider than that of the winner. Good ear set and lovely reach of neck. Excellent markings, rich tans and thick coat. On the move, I feel he needs to settle more and perhaps move with a little more drive to show his full potential.

1st- Partington- Palmer’s- Etruria Hear The Word

Compact and elegant male at just 9 months of age. Good for size. Lovely head and eye, ears well set and used well. Strong jaw, well arched neck, well laid back shoulders leading into a good topline and falling away to well angulated rear. Rounded rump and good cut up underneath, pleasing rib. Neat feet with correct pencilling and thumbprints present. Defined angel wings, rich tans and in good jacket. On the move, he is steady and sound and covers the area well.

2nd- Forsythe & Pevy’s- Witchstone Won’t Be Silent By Richpin

Upon entering the ring, I actually preferred this boy to the winner for overall type and outline. Unfortunately, today he showed a tendency to crab on the move which spoiled his rear drive and made it difficult to fully appreciate his potential. That said, there is a lot to like about this promising young dog. Excellent for size, classy and well proportioned. He has a beautiful head and eye, lovely ear carriage and an elegant reach of neck. His overall shape and structure clearly outlines how wonderfully constructed he is. Fabulous tans and markings, shown in tip top condition. I have no doubt when he settles and matures, he will have a very promising future and I am excited to follow his progress.

3rd- Thorne’s- Ettology Kiplings Pie At Winklefred

Junior Dog- 2 Entries 0 Absent

1st- Imrie’s- Amalric Butch Cassidy

I found this young male super smart and classy and he oozes breed type. His silhouette is simply stunning, curvy and well angulated, he paints a wonderful picture both standing and on the move. Cleanly built and compact, of excellent size and proportion. His head is strong and masculine yet elegant, with well placed ears and dark eyes of correct almond shape. Good reach of neck, well laid back shoulders and in my opinion he has one of the best toplines of the day. Tail set low. Well angulated at the rear. Neat feet with correct markings and pencilling, rich tans and a coarse thick jacket. On the move, once he settles, he is sound and well balanced, displaying clean movement coming and going and maintains his topline and shape beautifully. He has so many admirable attributes and he pushed the CC winner hard today. I have no doubt they could easily change places on another day. I was thrilled to award him the RDCC.

2nd- Holley’s Valeast Dream of Dreams

Another smart, young male, larger in size and stature than the winner. He has a pleasing shape but not quite the outline of 1. Typical wedge head, slightly longer and narrower than 1, well set dark eyes and well used ears. Good markings and tans and in good coat. Alert and charismatic, he was clearly enjoying his time in the ring. On the move, he displayed good drive but was slightly unsettled at times.

Post Graduate Dog- 4 Entries 0 Absent

1st- Wines’- Etruria Say The Word

Smart young dog of just 9 months of age. Fabulous size, compact and proportionate. He has a wonderful flat skull, wedge shaped head, well placed ears and nice dark eyes of correct size and shape. Fine boned with good shoulder placement, deep narrow chest and a good topline. Well angulated, neat feet, markings are present and he has rich tans. I personally would like to see him with a shade more weight on to further improve his overall shape. On the move, he is balanced and settled and drives well from the rear. Today he had a tendency to high step on occasion, but I am sure once he matures he will have a positive future ahead of him.

2nd- Summerfield’s- Kukuchi Maverick

Another pleasing young dog of just over 12 months old. Slightly longer cast that the winner and not the overall shape of 1. That said, there is a lot to like about this dog. He has a wonderful head and eye, strong jaw, well placed ears and a very alert expression. Good shoulder placement, narrow, deep chest. His tans and jacket are good and markings are present although his thumbprints have slightly run. He was a little unsettled today in the ring so he didn’t quite have the balance and movement of 1.

3rd- Inch’s- Edalene Upside Down

Limit Dog- 7 Entries 1 Absent

1st- Forsythe & Pevy’s- Kikuchi Hollywood

Shapely and well-constructed male with a lot of breed qualities to appreciate. Fine boned and elegant but still retains masculinity. Excellent wedge shaped head, well set dark almond eye. Flat skull and excellent reach of neck. Clean, straight, narrow chest with a good spring of rib, which will deepen nicely upon maturity. Well balanced and proportionate with nicely angulated hindquarters. Good topline, tans and markings. On the move, he is well balanced and covers the ground well, smoothly driving from the rear and reaching well in front. I feel he had one of the best front extensions on the day and I feel confident once he matures, he will easily gain his title.

2nd- Partington-Palmer’s -Witchstone Somethin’ Brewin

Smart young male a little under 2 years old, presented in lovely condition. Excellent jacket and tans, he has a pleasing shapely head and nice eye. Good deep chest, tuck up and angulation. Moved well but just preferred the breed type and overall finish of 1.

1st- Ch Ettology Bounteous Barney

This boy caught my eye immedicately upon entering the ring. On first appearance, I was impressed by his size, soundness and shape. He has a strong, masculine head but still displays the elegance required by the standard. Gracefully arched neck, excellent ear set and carriage, lovely shaped dark eyes and a very alert expression. Overall, he is very well balanced with a deep chest, lovely topline, tail set and neat feet. Good turn of stifle and wonderful angulation which allows him to move out freely. He has pleasing tans, markings and a lovely thick jacket and is presented in beautiful condition. On the move, he extends well, with clean movement both coming and going, his excellent construction allows him to cover the ground well and maintain his shape and topline well on the move. Although he can be a little proud of his tail on the move at times, he drops it lower when he settles and standing he holds it well. He displays all the elements of “fit for purpose” and today he definitely brought his “A” game and I was overjoyed to award him DCC and BOB.

2nd- Ch Witchstone Crazy Horse at Boimans

Another strong, masculine, smart male and it is clear to see why he has previously achieved his title. Good for size, a little heavier than the winner but still conforms well to breed type. Pleasing wedge shaped head with dark eyes set well. Good ear shape and carriage. Lovely outline, well set back shoulders and good topline, falling away to a well-set tail. Pleasing tans and markings. Cleanly build overall with good, sound movement. A real showman who clearly enjoys his time in the ring. He could easily change places on another day with 1.

Veteran Bitch- 1 Entry 0 Absent

1st- Ch Witchstone Minnehaha

I awarded this bitch her crowning ticket back in 2018 and today she reminded me of all the reasons why! It was lovely to see that although now in Veteran, she has maintained all the qualities and attributes she possessed as a youngster. Excellent for size and breed type, she paints a beautiful picture both standing and on the move. Feminine, well sculpted head and well placed ears, almond shaped eyes which are both dark and sparkling. Fine boned with a beautiful topline, good tail set and excellent tans. Thick, coarse, black jacket. Excellent markings and neat feet. On the move, she is sound and true in all directions. Very pleased to award her BVB and BVIB and I was also thrilled to see she was later placed Veteran Group 2.

Minor Puppy Bitch- 5 Entries 2 Absent

1st-Leonard’s- Witchstone Silent Prayer

Beautiful young puppy, typical breed type from this kennel. Excellent for size and shape, fine boned, feminine and pretty. She has an exquisite outline both standing and on the move. Lovely head and eye, well placed ears, well laid back shoulders, excellent topline falling to a well rounded rump. Beautiful angulation and tuck up. Moves with class and drive although, she was quite unsettled on the day which unfortunately cost her in the challenge. No doubt she will gain top honours in her future.

2nd- Crowley’s- Adargwn Geneva

Attractive young bitch, good for size and overall shape. She has a lovely, elegant and pretty head. Dark, well set eyes. Good ear placement and uses her ears well. Nice tans and markings and presented in good condition. Not quite the movement of 1 today.

3rd- Williams’- Sharex Wears Prada

Puppy Bitch (2 Entries, 0 absent)

1st- Dean- Armitt’s- Twowayshouse Touch Of Class

Pleasing size, young bitch with a lot of quality attributes about her. Feminine and elegant, well constructed and moved well. Lovely tans and good coat. Her head is typically wedged and although her ear set is slightly wider than I would have liked, she uses her ears well. Good dark eye and soft expression.

2nd- Peters’- Ettology Cherry Bakewell

Another pretty young lady of 11 months of age. Similar in type to 1, good head and eye, well placed ears. Excellent angulation, good depth of chest, narrow front, feminine and shapely. Pleasing tans. Today she did not cover the ground quite as well as the winner.

Junior Bitch (3 Entries 0 absent)

1st- Green’s- Three Times A Lady

Cracking little bitch of excellent proportions. Ideal size and is clean coming and going when moving around the ring. Beautifully shaped wicked eye set well in a narrow wedge shaped skull. A little finer and narrower in head than I would prefer and displays more of the American influence in my opinion. That said, she is feminine and pretty with an alert expression. Good jacket, presented in wonderful condition, nice tans and markings.

2nd- Pendlebury’s- Gillings Dark Angel

Again, another bitch of good size and condition. She has rich tans and well defined thumbprints. Slightly flatter in topline than the winner and has a tendency to soften her ears. Good head and eye. Not quite the movement of 1.

3rd- Reeve’s- Gillings Future Star

Post Graduate Bitch (4 entries, 0 absent)

1st- Inch’s- Edalene Scoops Ahoy

This bitch is an example of what I would class as a typical “English” looking ETT. Feminine, kind expression with a nice flat, wedge shaped head and enough fill up under the eye. Dark eyes and pleasing tans. I especially liked the presence and shape of the angel wings, something which can on occasion, can become lost or undefined in our breed. Elegant without being overly fine, feminine and pretty. Moved well for her handler.

2nd- Green and Leonard’s- Lady in Black at Witchstone

Litter sister I believe to the winner of the junior bitch class and of the same breed type with many of the same qualities. Lovely size and presented in fantastic condition. Good narrow, wedge shaped head with almond shaped dark eyes. Again, she is slightly longer and finer in head than I prefer but still has a beautiful shape and expression. Slightly flatter in topline today than 1 and she was a little unsettled on the move, I later learnt that she had unfortunately slipped her lead prior to the class which had un-nerved her somewhat and affected her performance which was a shame.

Limit Bitch ( 8 entries, 2 absent)

1st- Haffenden and Wood’s- Nasabe Play The Game Jw

Beautifully constructed young bitch with a lot of class and qualities to admire. Fine boned, elegant and eye catching, she has the typical ETT outline with shapely curves and angles. Wedge shaped head of excellent proportion, nicely set dark eyes and well placed ears. Narrow front with adequate depth of chest and well sprung ribs. Excellent shapely under carriage, good topline and super angulation. Presented in lovely condition, well maintained and moves effortlessly with drive around the ring. Pleased to award her RBCC, I am certain she will not wait long for her title.

2nd- Whitehouse’s- Amalric Coco Chanel with Dalmonde Jw

Another pretty little bitch. Slightly taller than 1 and not quite the drive and movement of the winner today. Lovely silhouette, fine boned and elegant with good angulation and shape. Feminine head and expression with well set ears. In lovely coat with good tans.

3rd- Inch’s- Edalene Court and Spark

Open Bitch- ( 5 entries, 1 absent)

1st- Ramsden and Kagzi’s -Ch Pallisandre Pocahontas

3 year old champion bitch in tip top condition and wow did she bring the fire today! Commanding the ring upon entry, I can certainly see why she gained her title. Smart, compact and well built, excellent size and overall shape. She is feminine, shapely and elegant with super angulation and curves. Clean, wedge shaped head of excellent proportions. Super dark, almond eye. Well placed ears of good size and shape. Lovely arch of neck, flowing into a good topline and rounded off well at the rump. Narrow front, good markings, neat feet and good pencilling. Excellent depth and spring of chest and rib. Well angulated hind quarters, well defined muscle tone. Tail set is good and carriage both standing and on the move is correct. On the move, she covers the ground well, extending in front and driving well from the rear, her movement is effortless, flowing and well balanced. Delighted to award her BCC.

2nd- Francis, Blatchford and Leonard’s- Witchstone Something Brewing at Peopleton Jw

Super little bitch and definitely brought some excellent competition to the winner. I feel this bitch could also switch places with 1 on another day. Similar in breed type to the winner, she also has a lot of qualities to admire. Lovely wedge shaped head, good dark eyes and well placed ears of a nice shape. Narrow front and good spring of rib. Good tans and markings. Moves soundly around the ring with enough reach and drive but just didn’t bring the enthusiasm and sparkle of 1 today.

3rd- Harman and Wood’s- Nasabe Its on the Cards for Boimans
