Breed: Dogue de Bordeaux
Southern Counties 02/06/2024 Thank you so much to Southern Counties for the opportunity to judge these breeds at their well run show. My ring stewards were fantastic and kept things flowing smoothly, especially during class changeovers when people were swapping dogs. Also a huge thank you to the exhibitors who entered their lovely dogs for me to judge, it’s difficult to take a chance on someone who is not a specialist so the support is greatly appreciated. All exhibits had excellent temperaments and there were some difficult decisions for me to make on the day. Dogue de Bordeaux Class 2073 Special Beginners (1) 1st 5906 - Delilah Lilac (Mr L M & Miss R L Osborne) Just a youngster who is in a leggy phase at the moment. Pretty head with good eye shape and colour. Good muzzle to skull ratio. Has a lot of developing to do but she has plenty of time. Well ribbed, correct topline. Loose on the move as one would expect for her age but a very sweet natured outgoing girl. Best Special Beginner. Class 2074 Puppy Dog (1) 1st 5897 - Vegas V D Madroelhoeve (Imp Nld) (Miss M Billis) Powerful young male, strong head with a well defined stop and median groove. Muscular neck into good lay of shoulder. Well off for bone with a broad chest and ribs below his elbows. Needs to firm up through his pasterns but this should come as he matures. Well ribbed, strong topline. Again, he needs to gain more strength in rear as he continues to grow. Sound on the move. Best Puppy in Breed. Class 2075 Junior Dog (No entries) Class 2076 Post Graduate Dog (No entries) Class 2077 Open Dog (2) 1st 5903 - Aibrean Kenzo (Mrs L S Moran) This boy has done well under me before, my previous comments still apply. He is strong and imposing. Masculine head, correct eye shape and colour, defined stop and median groove, strong jaw. Well off for bone, good front construction with a broad chest and well sprung ribs. Well muscled rear with good bend of stifle. He did seem to be affected by the warm weather today as he was not as active in his movement as I have seen previously. Still sound enough to earn Best Dog and Best of Breed. 2nd 5900 - Loggerheads Thor (Mr C & Mr M Brunger & Rainger) Another powerful male who pushed the winner hard. Excellent head and eye, well set ears and a good strong jaw. Muscular neck into nicely constructed front. Well off for bone, just a little down on his pasterns. Well ribbed, held his topline correctly. Well developed hind muscling, just moved a touch close behind. Reserve Best Dog. Class 2078 Veteran (1) 1st 5905 - Honky Tonker Cabernet Woman (Mrs L S Moran) No one appears to have mentioned to this girl that she’s a veteran. Lovely, well constructed head, just a shame she had taken the skin off her nose which unsettled her as it must have been sore. Balanced throughout and good for bone. Excellent rear angulation. She powered around the ring, one of the only ones not to be bothered by the heat. Carried her head low on the move which allowed an excellent length of stride. Best Veteran. Class 2079 Puppy Bitch (3/1) 1st 5907 - Bobiso Miss Virginia (Mrs S Van-Heerden) Just a baby at her first show but she will be one to watch in the future. Full of attitude, very pretty, head is well constructed with a strong jaw and just the right amount of wrinkle. She’s very raw which you would expect at this age but she is balanced with a good forechest, nice feet, good length of rib. Good rear angulation with muscling that is developing nicely. Moved well for her age. 2nd 5906 - Delilah Lilac (Mr Lm & Miss Rl Osborne) As above. Class 2080 Junior Bitch (No entries) Class 2081 Post Graduate Bitch (3/1) 1st 5904 - Aibrean Killer Queen (Mrs L S Moran) Excellent head on this young girl, good eye colour and strong jaw. Nice neck into good lay of shoulder, well off for bone and very up on her toes. Great width and depth to chest, well sprung ribs that are of good length. Held her topline well. Good rear angulation with excellent muscle tone. Still a touch loose on the move but sound enough. Reserve Best Bitch. 2nd 5898 - Doguesden Unuique (Mr C & Mr M Brunger & Rainger) Another excellent head, correct eye shape and colour, nice amount of wrinkle not overdone at all. Built along slightly finer lines than the first and just a bit down on her pasterns. Good ribbing and topline. Strong through her well muscled hinds with a good bend of stifle. Moved ok just lacked drive today. Class 2082 Open Bitch (4/2) 1st 5909 - Vanasuze Touch of Class (Mrs S Van-Heerden) Large, imposing bitch who has a great ring presence. Good head, correct eye shape, powerful jaw. Well muscled neck, well laid shoulders, chest very broad and deep. Elbows sat just slightly away from her body. Excellent bone and good feet. Carried her topline well both standing and moving. Great bend of stifle and powerful through the hocks. Moved well from behind but just a shade wide on the front, Pleased to award her Best Bitch and RBOB. 2nd 5902 - Aibrean All That I Know (Mrs L S Moran) Another lovely girl who I felt wasn’t making the most of herself today. Her ears were down and she seemed unsettled which is a shame as she’s very nice. Head is constructed well, well off for bone, however not quite the front as her competitor. Well muscled all through, strong through the topline and loin. Movement was a bit erratic.
