Bournemouth Canine Association

Breed: Pyrenean Mountain Dog

This was a most enjoyable appointment. Awarding my first set of CC’s in this beautiful breed, I was honoured with some outstanding quality. It was a very hot day and all the dogs coped amazingly! Thank you for a very memorable day.

Junior Dog (1,0)

1st: Waters’ Nevot De Alba De Los Danzantes With Sketrick (Imp Esp). A very nice start to my day. A powerful young dog of very nice make and shape. Strong head without any coarseness. Correct degree of stop and balance of skull to muzzle. Almond shaped eyes set slightly obliquely. Good pigmentation. Ears ok for size and set. Neck of correct length flowing nicely into well laid shoulders. Correct length and angle to upper arm. Good length of foreleg with correct bone calibre for age. Deep chest. Firm topline and well-proportioned in height to length. Moderate angulation of stifles. Typical tail set. Double dew claws present. Very well presented. Very free action in profile. Just a little close behind. Very promising.

Limit Dog (2,0)

1st: Henson’s Lisjovia Eternal Guardian For Pyrekees. Standard fitting boy with lots to like. Typical masculine head without being overdone. Strong muzzle of medium length. Correct eye shape and set. Ears ok for size and set. Neck of moderate length. Well laid shoulders and excellent return of upper arm. Correct bone. Deep chest of correct width. Slight slope to pasterns. Liked his body proportions. Firm topline. Moderate turn of stifles. Double dew claws present. Correct length and set of tail. Excellent mover in profile and sound out and back. Coat not quite at its best today. Nice boy.

2nd: Woolf’s Sabre Golden Ticket Du Pyrdanti (Imp Fra). A handsome boy with quite nice head and expression, Again, not too overdone in skull and muzzle which I like. Dark eyes of correct shape. Ears well set. Neck moderate in length. Quite well angulated fore and aft but not quite as well balanced as 1st. Proportion of height to length is typical, but ribcage could extend back slightly more. Firm topline. Moderate turn of stifles. Double dew claws. Tail is well set and carried ok on the move. Moves soundly in profile but not quite as good behind as the winner.

Open Dog (3,0). A small but super class.

1st: Pollard & Maggs’ Ch Gillandant Thief of Hearts at Dewyche Shcex. Last judged this boy in breed classes at the PMDCGB Open show in 2023, where I was impressed so much by his overall breed type and conformation. Just felt then that he needed to mature on and he most certainly has! So handsome and all male, but not overdone in any way. Fabulous well-balanced head with smooth, flowing lines, the correct degree of stop and power to muzzle which also tapers very slightly at the end. Eyes are good for colour, and he has a fab expression. Ears correct for size and shape. Correct length of neck leading to wonderful shoulders. Good return of upper arm. Deep chest of perfect width for me. Ribs carried well back. Firm topline and correct length of back. Muscular loins. Moderate turn of stifles. Slightly sloping rump and well set and carried tail. Double dew claws present. Compact feet. Excellent bone and condition. Superb free mover covering lots of ground so easily. Looked absolutely fantastic today. In gleaming condition. Never put a foot wrong CC & BOB.

2nd: Baverstock’s Kalkasi Just Because JW. Another cracker and unlucky to meet 1st on such form. Again, a masculine head which is well proportioned, masculine with good shape. Dark eyes of correct shape and set. Ears well placed and ok for size. Just preferred expression of 1st. Good neck. Well laid shoulders, good bone a feet. Bit squarer in outline than 1st. Deep chest, well ribbed. Firm topline and muscular loins. Slight slope to rump. Moderate bend of stifles. Tail well set and carried tail. Double dew claws present. Well-muscled and in superfluous condition. Super free and light mover, and very sound from all angles. A very impressive Pyrenean and I’m sure he will make up. RDCC

2nd: Thomas’ Shiresoak Snow Patrol. Totally out of coat and looking much more refined than 1st. Narrower all through. Has lovely eyes which are dark and set slightly obliquely. Correct stop. Looking just a little narrow through the muzzle. Good neck and has lovely angles fore and aft. Chest reached to elbows. Topline level. Muscular loins and slight slope to rump. Double dew claws present. Well-presented and moved very soundly.

Junior Bitch (2,0)

Ears well set and of correct size. Moderate length of neck and angulation fore and aft. Well balanced. Chest reaches to elbows. Chest needs to broaden and develop on. Firm topline. Muscular lines. Double dew claws present. Correct length of tail - could be raised slightly higher on the move. Muscular and well presented. Moves very soundly, just needs time.

2nd: Stephens’ Aurvandill Freya’s Thyra. Very immature. Head looking a little plain with quite a rounded skull. Eyes are of a nice shape and dark in colour. Muzzle is quite strong. Not as typical in expression as 1st. Rather light in bone at present. Moderate angles. Chest to develop on. Ribs carried well back. Tail set ok. Double dew claws present. Moved soundly.

Post Graduate Bitch (2,0)

Muzzle is strong enough. Eyes are dark and well set. Ears are good for shape and set. Good neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Good return of upper arm. Deep chest. Well ribbed. Open Bitch (3,0)

Super head with lovely head planes, proportions, degree of stop and balance of skull to muzzle. Super expressive almond shaped eyes which are dark in colour. Ears well set. Shortish neck. Good angulation fore and aft. Great bone and of a nice size overall. Topline firm and level. She is ideal in proportions for height to length and has a degree of athleticism that I like to see. I would like some more width through the front which I am sure will come as she matures. Super mover with a free action and super sound from all angles. Like her very much. Time will only benefit her.

 Veteran Bitch  (1,0)

1st: Thorne’s Ch Belshanmish Pretty In Pink At Pyrajay Shcm Shex Vw. I have written before that this elegant bitch is one of my favourite dogs of any breed that I have judged. That said, you judge a dog on the day not on what you have found on previous occasions. With such super bitches in the line-up, she was certainly pushed all the way here. She has such a beautiful expression, so typical for the breed with nothing overdone and all gentle flowing lines throughout with perfect stop. Correct proportion of skull to muzzle. Lovely almond shaped, dark eyes and great ears for size, set and shape. Super pigment. Expression to die for. Excellent neck leading to very well laid shoulders and super upper arm. Ideal bone for size. Deep chest of correct width and ribs carried well back. Correct height to length. Super topline and slight slope to rump. Broad back and muscular loins. Angulation at rear perfectly matches the front. Perfect tail set and carriage. Super feet and muscular condition. Her coat just gleams in the sun. She never put a foot wrong on the move being so free and graceful. She just lights up my heart and it was an honour to meet her here in such superb form. CC.
