Breed: St. Bernard

St. Bernard’s

A big thank you to the committee for inviting me to award my first set of CC’s in this breed which I now own and love, the entry was good for the current climate, there were some absentees but the quality of those I had was pleasing which makes the job in hand a much easier one so thank you to all that entered, all that came and allowed me the pleasure of judging your lovely dogs and also those who came to support by watching.

Class PD (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: - MOKRYK, Miss Natasha & JEFFRIES, Mrs Marisa & BELL - Streillys Hugo The Boss By Bellfries – There is lots to like with this puppy who turned 12 months today, his head is developing nicely, he has a dark eye of good shape, he scored over 2 with slightly tighter eye rims, he is developing a good width to his skull and his ears sit well, his muzzle is in balance to his skull with good width and depth, he has a strong neck and well placed shoulders, he is developing well in body and stands on strong straight well boned limbs, his top line is firm enough for his age, his rump is broad, for me he slopes off at the croup a tad more than ideal, on the move he is straight coming and going and is in tune with his young handler at all times, he was presented in a squeaky clean jacket and handled beautifully. Best Puppy Dog.

2nd: - SALTER, Mr A & SALTER, Mrs A - Chandlimore Good Fortune For Olafsaints– I really liked this young puppy who at just 7 & a half months is still quite raw but showing so much promise, He stands on strong limbs and is so well off for bone, his head is developing at just the right pace, he could have a tighter eye but for this he has age on his side, his neck is of correct length and flows into well placed shoulders with a good return of upper arm, his back although strong is currently a tad bum high which is forgivable at this age, his tail is set on well and of good length, he scored over one on his rear angulation but did not quite move with the same purpose as 1 today, he is certainly one to watch for the future.

Class JD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: - SALTER, Mr A & SALTER, Mrs A - Chandlimore Stormin Norman At Olafsaints- Litter brother to 2nd in puppy yet quite different, this boy is more mature than his brother and is carrying more weight at this time, his head is developing well and he has correct dentition and a tighter eye, he is currently standing a little ten to two on the front but I never worry about this in a puppy of this age, once his rib cage develops more he should straighten here, he has a strong topline and is broad from his shoulders to his rump, I would prefer more angulation at the rear and he does need to strengthen in his hocks, on the move he was a little reluctant and only just gave enough to get him to where he needed to be, with a little more work this will come I am sure.

Class LD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: - MACDONALD, Mr M W And Mrs K J - Chedham Food For Thought- This male presented a super shape on profile, he has the most appealing head which is strong and well matched for both skull and muzzle width and depth, he has a lovely eye and correct dentition, his neck is strong, his chest is deep and broad and he has a strong loin and a strong topline which is perfectly matched by his underline, his croup has just the right amount of slope to his well set on tail, he is well angulated both fore and aft and stands on strong straight well boned limbs and good feet, he was presented in a super clean jacket, he moved out well on side profile with good reach in front, to be a tad critical he could have a slightly more positive rear action and was a tad close going away, other than that there was very little to not like about this beautiful boy, I was delighted to award him the RCC and I am sure he will take his well deserved title before too long.

Class OD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: - DEEGAN, Mr Brendan & JENNINGS, Mr Darren - Ch Chandlimore Gunz For Hire – What a super example of the breed this 3 and a half year old male is, I was delighted to see him walk into the ring, he certainly fits the brief being well proportioned and of great substance and to complete the package he moves with such a powerful balanced gait yet is so light on his feet, everything from nose to tail is quality, even the preparation of this dog is from the top drawer, he was in super coat and when you get under it there is this solid frame with the best of angles making this dog so balanced both static and moving, The balance starts with his head, his skull is broad as is his short square muzzle which is coupled with his depth in jaw, his eyes are of correct size and set and have well fitted rims, his ears sit neatly and extend the width of that skull, his neck is so strong and broad and flow into equally broad shoulders which are placed just where they should be, his chest has super width & depth and sits just above the elbow line, there is plenty of lung and heart room in that chest and ribbing to give the impression this dog could work all day, his back again is so broad as is his strong loin and rump, his tail is set on so well and is of good length and he holds it beautifully on the move which is a trait rare to many, he has ample bone throughout, his limbs are strong and straight and he stands on good feet, when he sets sail around the ring you can’t take your eyes off him, he all but floats, he is at one with his super calm handler who gets the very best out of him at every turn, The CC was his no question and he put in another super performance for BOB, I then watched him put in a super performance in the group where he was shortlisted, well done.

Class PB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: - BOOTH, Mrs Tanyajane & BOOTH, Mr Gordon - Chandlimore Star Struck With Beausaints – This beautiful bitch is litter mate to 2nd in puppy and the JD winner, she is also still raw as should be the case at this age but she has the mindset of one much older than her brothers and absolutely has her game on when on the move, she moved round the ring like an absolute pro displaying such reach in front and a driving rear action that just blew me away and there was no way she wasn’t going to walk away with best puppy in breed today, she pushed for the RCC too when it came to moving, She has a super head coming, her eyes are dark and set well with reasonable fitted rims, her muzzle has good width and depth and is balanced to her skull, she stands on well boned limbs and displays balanced angles front and rear, yes her topline is a tad soft when static but of course it is, she is a baby still but she did hold it so well when she moved and she so wanted to move, she was presented in a squeaky clean jacket and was handled well, she is certainly one to watch for the future. Best Puppy In Breed.

Class LB (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: - DEEGAN, Mr Brendan & GRAINGER, Ms A - Chandlimore A New Sensation – This young lady is only 20 months of age and today she won her crowning CC which is such an achievement in a giant breed at this age, I was absolutely delighted to have had the pleasure to make her up, she is a beautiful bitch who has it all going on, today she came in her summer dress but this did not distract and I was able to see the qualities underneath very easily, she scores well in head which has strength yet retains her femininity, her dentition is correct, eye clean and healthy and her ears are set neatly adding to the whole picture of a super head piece, she has ample bone throughout and a solid frame, her angles are well balanced, her limbs strong and straight and she stands on good feet, her shoulders are well placed and are complimented by her return of upper arm of the correct length which together they give her a good forechest, her chest is deep and reaching just over the elbow line, she does need to broaden in ribbing but she is still so young so it’s there to come, on the move she produces a balanced gait with reach in front and a driving rear action, she moved so well in the class and the challenge for BCC but was a tad giddy in the challenge for BOB.

Class OB (6 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: - DAVIES, Mr John - Chandlimore Good Morning.- This bitch of 4 years old is an absolute dream, she is such a strong solid bitch who I have had admired from ringside and was delighted to get my hands on her today, she has the most appealing head which is so strong but not overdone in any way, her frame is solid throughout, she has depth and width of chest, she did score over 1 with this regard as she is so much more mature, she has super bone throughout, her front angles are balanced and her top line strong and straight, she has super width to her rump and her tail is set on well, to be critical I would like a tad more angulation at the rear, she was presented in a good coat which was clean and well maintained, her movement is true and she does present a good shape on profile moving round the ring, she gave me enough in the class but sadly was having a little issue with her collar and this hampered her in the challenge, I did try my best to give her every chance because like the limit winner this bitch is also deserving of a CC but it just wasn’t meant to be today, she was however very worthy of the RCC and I was delighted to award this to her today.
