Collies (Smooth)

Thank you to the SWKA Committee for inviting me to judge at one of my favourite shows. Held on a weekday in the Welsh countryside and no CCs, I was delighted with my entry of 8 dogs. Thank you all for your entry and for making the journey.

Puppy Dog (1,0)

1st - Mr & Mrs Hayward’s Wynele Double Trouble at Foxearth; a 10-month-old sable & white dog of good size and shape with a wonderful temperament and in great condition. His dark brown, almond shaped eyes and correctly set and tipped ears used to his advantage, giving him a sweet but alert expression. A masculine head, yet not overdone, with parallel planes, flat skull and a perceptible stop which was not too wide. Good strong neck, his body has a little maturing to do but found him more than acceptable for his age. He still had a good depth of chest, well sprung ribs, a level topline with the typical rise over the loin. Ample bone, legs nice and straight in front, and well bent stifle at the rear giving him nice angulation. Together this gave him the tools for a strong and powerful drive, making his movement look effortless. It was a pleasure to award him BOB and BPIB, and watch him be shortlisted in a strong Puppy Group. Well done!

Junior Dog (1,1)

See Puppy Dog.

Post Graduate Dog (2,1)

1st – Mrs Corben’s Stormsett Shadow Dancer via Caprioara; 4-year-old tri dog of good size and temperament. He has a wedge-shaped head, although a little strong. He had dark eyes that were the correct shape and size, ears well tipped however set a little low and took away a little from his expression. Strong muscular neck, good width of chest, and a strong body covered in a deep black coarse coat. A straight front, a good length of stifle in rear, albeit a touch straight. A shame that his usual handler was unavailable today as he found it difficult to get into his stride. Res. Best Dog.

Open Dog (1,1)

Puppy Bitch (0,0)

Junior Bitch (0,0)

Post Graduate Bitch (1,0)

1st – Mrs P Corben & Mr R Glover’s Stormsett Serendipity; 4-year-old tri bitch litter sister to PG Dog and shares many of his attributes. Understandably, she was a little unsure today but still friendly and willing to give a cheeky kiss. Her eyes almond-shaped and dark, set into a feminine head. She didn’t want to use her well tipped ears, which were also set a little low. She was a nice size and had a good dark coat, but her body could do with a little work, I look forward to seeing her again in a few months once she has had time to settle. Similar to PGD, with her usual handler missing she never got into her stride. Res. Best Bitch.

Open Bitch (3,2)

Mrs Coates’ Seanua Scotch Mist; 11 ½ year-old sable & white bitch of a nice size and shape, fantastic temperament and in good condition. Her feminine head was well balanced, with a nice flat skull, parallel planes and not overly chiselled, topped with correctly set and well tipped ears. Along with her dark almond-shaped eyes, these attributes came together to give her a wise and intelligent expression. A strong neck, flowed into a well laid back shoulders and a firm topline. Good width and depth of chest, strong straight legs and nice tidy feet, muscular thighs and well bent stifles. Her body showed no sign of her age, and this showed when she moved with elegance and drive, maintaining that topline at all times. Rarely shown now, she enjoyed her day out and I was very pleased to award her Best Bitch.
