Boston and District Canine Society 06th July 2024

Many thanks to the ring stewards for keeping everything running smoothly and to the committee for such an enjoyable show and the invite to judge.  Rutland Showground was such a wonderful venue with the ring layouts and grass just perfect. GWP is a breed I have admired and have a soft spot for many years, so it was a joy to judge such wonderful exhibits.

GWP  JD (2,0) 1st Glenquin The General (Mr P, Mrs L & Miss N Johnston) – 12 mth  A quality youngster well up to size, with good bone and a super outline stood.  Well balanced for a youngster with lovely front and rear angulation which he used to his advantage on the move. A correct proportioned head and neck, deep chested. Good length to his upper arm and strong pasterns.   Held his topline on the move with strong rear drive from his well angulated stifles.  Super coat and condition.  He was enjoying himself in the ring today and it showed sometimes with him flying his tail. Not surprised on seeing the catalogue to see his dam was the BOB winner.  He should have a good future.

2nd - Beechillawn Break The Mould (IKC) (Mr P & Mrs D & Mr S Lovatt & Lovatt & Gettings) – 12mth  Smaller stature than 1, and just not as strong on the move today.  I liked his head and overall balance, slightly shorter in the upper arm than 1 and he was not quite as strong in his pasterns, but this will come as he matures.  Lovely wire coat and condition.  Good tail set and carriage on the move.

OD (2,1) – 1st Ir Sh Ch Beechillawn Raspberry Sorbet Cjw22 Cw22/23 Cen Ch Cen JW Cenw Jch (Mr D & Mrs K Donnelly) 3yr.  Another smaller stature dog, shorter coated than some, but with heavier furnishings.  A lovely head, leading into a good neck and shoulders, although I would prefer more length to his upper arm.  Held his topline on the move and has a good tail set and carriage.  Covered the ground on the move but just not the drive of the 2 veteran dogs.

VD (2,0) – 1st - Sh Ch/deu/vdh Ch Kimmax Kurious George Bs17/18 (Mr P F & Mrs M Mccullough) 8 yr.  Always a joy to judge the veterans, and what a super class with 2 quality veteran dogs.  The winner belied his age both stood and on the move, had super front reach and rear drive from his good front angulation and well angulated stifles.  Super head and neck, deep chested.  Liked his body proportions, topline and good tail set and carriage.  A wonderful jacket and shown in wonderful, muscular condition.  Pleased to award him, BD, BOS and BV.  Pleased to see he made the cut in the veteran group – well done.

2nd - Sh Ch/ir Sh Ch Kimmax Knock Yourself Out JW ShCM (Mr D & Mrs K Donnelly) – many similar qualities to 1, and not surprised to hear they are related.  Another in super coat and condition, correct head and neck, flowing into his shoulders and deep chest.  Good angulation at the rear but preferred 1 who was stronger in the stifles and this showed with stronger rear drive on the move. Very pleased to award him RBD.

PGB – (2,1) 1st Doberway Queen of Hearts (Mrs T & Mr D Parkin) – 19 mth took a while to settle but she got there, well handled.  A feminine bitch with lovely front and rear angulation, which as she matures I am sure will be used to her advantage on the move.  Good tail set.  Correct proportioned head, neck and body, in lovely condition and good coat.  I would prefer her to be a tad darker in the eye.

LB  - (1,0) – 1st Glenquin Enyo (Mr P, Mrs L & Miss N Johnston) – 5 yr. Feminine bitch with a lovely head, eye and furnishings.  Shown in super coat and condition. Super front angulation which gave her good reach on the move, I would prefer her to be tidier in her rear movement though and tail carriage. Her rear angulation is not as balanced as her front.

OB (3,1) – 1st Sh Ch Glenquin Athena (Mr P, Mrs L & Miss N Johnston) – A quality class of GWP bitches.  5yr The winner, I could have scooped her up and taken her home! Looks fabulous stood and uses her super front and rear angulation to power around the ring with reach and drive.  She is well off for bone, but still feminine, loved her head which is totally balanced to her correct body proportions.  Deep chested, strong pasterns, well sprung ribs and strong in her topline and loin, which she held on the move.  I liked her tail set and carriage.  Super coat and condition.  BB, BOB and a well deserved cut in the group.

2nd - Ir Sh Ch Beechillawn Mint Chip Ir Jch Cjw22 Cent JW Cent W TAF (Mr P & Mrs D & Mr S Lovatt & Lovatt & Gettings)  3yr. A smaller stature bitch compared to the winner, but similar qualities.  Really liked her head and lovely dark eye.  Has super front angulation, just not as balanced on the rear as 1st and it showed on the move where she did not quite have the same drive.  She was presented in super coat and condition and pleased to award her RBB.

VB (2,0) -1st  Sh Ch/ir Sh Ch Beechillawn Oooh Betty (Mr D & Mrs K Donnelly) – 7yr Really liked the front of this veteran bitch, good length of upper arm and shoulder angulation which led to good front reach on the drive.  Not quite so balanced at the rear and did not have as much drive.   Nice head, neck and deep chested.  Shown in good harsh coat and condition.

2nd - Sh Ch/bel Ch Canis Fortuna Harda (Mr P, Mrs L & Miss N Johnston) – 7yr.  A slightly heavier boned bitch than the winner, I preferred her rear angulation which she used well on the move.  Sightly shorter in the upper arm which meant she did not quite have the reach of 1.  Good head, deep chested and presented in good coat and condition.

GCB (1,0) – 1st Kimmax Who Kares Wins JW (Mr D & Mrs K Donnelly) – 6 yr old, lots to like about her from her balanced front and rear angulation, super coat, condition to her lovely head, deep chest and well sprung ribs.  Balanced and tidy on the move.
