Pug - Judge: Mrs J Sparrow

I would like to thank the officers and committee for the invitation to judge at Windsor today, to my very capable stewards Jan & Phil Shephard thank you for an enjoyable and fun day. The weather was not kind to us in the morning but we ventured out into the large outside ring and braved the rain. This gave everyone amble room to move but also it meant that we were not in a very stuffy ring inside.

I braved the rain alongside the exhibitors and their dogs and although a number of us got a wee bit wet I am sure that the majority of the exhibitors were pleased that we did venture out. I was really pleased with the sportsmanship of the exhibitors and also the quality of the entry.

As a non-breed person (I did have some marvelous and dedicated mentors over the years) I would just like to mention a couple of things I did find a number of exhibits to be a bit overweight especially around the shoulders which affected movement, the breed standard states that substance should not be confused with obesity which is highly undesirable. Also as most people are aware I am not a fan of exhibits being moved excessively quickly around the ring this alters the typical gait and the topline is lost. The standard asks for a slight unexaggerated roll of the hindquarters with parallel hindquarters, there is a tendency for some exhibits to seem that they have the roll but it is from the rear legs single tracking and this definitely is not a way forward.

It was lovely to see my Best of Breed Ch Potbelli Limited Edition JW went on to win 3rd in the Toy Group, my puppy Eastonite Nigel Is Naughty won 1st in Toy Puppy Group.

1st Place - Gramatti Laird of The Ring via Hugieboogie ShCM (Mrs L Reid) – Smart soundly made veteran dog, he has a lovely expression with clearly defined wrinkle, good dark eye, nice open nostrils, he has slightly arced strong neck he has a nice body, good depth of chest, good rear angulation, correct tail set moved well both coming and going.

2nd Place - Pugglemania Have A Look (Mrs S E Wheeler) – I loved this veteran dogs head with lovely clearly defined wrinkle, open nostrils he has such an endearing expression, he has a lovely dark eye, he has a good neck, correct depth of chest, he lost out in profile on the move to one, he has a nice body he moved well both coming and going.

1st Place - Eastonite Nigel Is Naughty (Miss A J Ellis) – I loved this youngster, he is so well balanced for his age, he is certain square and carries a nice body for his age, he has the most beautiful head and expression with lovely clearly defined wrinkle, he has a lovely dark eye, nice open nostrils, he has the correct slightly arched neck, leading into well placed shoulders, he has a good depth of chest which gives him the correct straight front he has a good topline which can be seen when he moves in profile, he has good rear angulation correct tail set, he moves soundly both coming and going. His movement gives him the typical gait one requires in the breed. I loved his outgoing attitude. Best Puppy in Breed & Toy Puppy Group winner.

1st Place - Nicobri's Lord of The Rings JW (N Turnbull) – A very smart young male who has a really endearing expression, he has a nice dark eye good wrinkle on his head , nice open nostrils, he is so alert, he has a good body for his age with nice front, he is developing nicely in chest, he has a nice arched neck leading into good shoulder placement. He carries himself so well on the move moving soundly both coming and going with typical gait , he has good rear angulation, he stand four square at all times and is so well schooled

1st Place - Ch Judamie Eltons Sun JW (Ms J & Mr D Dawson-Payne & Mousley) – I loved this young male, in his class he certainly stands out for all the right reason, he has a super head with lovely dark eye, he has clearly defined wrinkles, giving the typical expression one requires, he has good open nostrils, nice dark eye, correctly placed ears, he has a really good arched neck leading into well placed shoulders, he has a good straight front, he has a lovely chest for his age. He has good rear angulation, he has the correct topline, whilst on the move, he certainly draws your eye, he carries himself so well. Expertly handled he stands four square at all times. One I considered for higher honors today just lost out to 2 more mature males.

2nd Place - Tangetoppen’s Masterpiece (Imp Nor) (Miss A J Mitchell) – A smart male he is nice and cobby, he is very balanced. He has a pleasing head with nice dark eye. He has good open nostrils he has a good neck which he uses correctly, he has a nice body and depth of chest, he has good shoulders with a nice straight front, he has a level topline with correct tailset, he has good rear angulation, he moves with the correct gait and is sound both coming and going.

1st Place - Pugistie Meant to Bee JW (Miss J & Miss R Collier) – A very alert young male, he has a really appealing head and expression he has nice wrinkle with a nice dark eye, he has good open nostrils, he is a nice sized male with a good depth of chest, he has the correct straight front, he just needs a bit more time to mature in body, he has lovely rear angulation, he has correct tail set, he moves well and keeps a nice side profile, his movement is typical both coming and going.

2nd Place - Hugapug Guy Fawkes at Sandigara (Mrs S Makepeace) – A smart male with a nice head and expression, good wrinkle with nice dark eye, he has nice open nostrils ,he has a good strong neck leading into well placed shoulders for me he is at that stage between puppy and adult and is carrying a bit more coverage over shoulders which is noticeable especially when he moves in profile, he moves well both coming and going. Handler just need to watch him when he is standing as today he did not keep a level topline on the stance.

1st Place - Macmoore Movin On (Mr G & Mrs G Mcaleny) – A very alert youngster, he has such a beautiful head with lovely defined wrinkle, he has beautiful dark expressive eyes which are full of mischief he has good open nostrils. He has a lovely wide arched neck leading into good shoulders, he has a lovely straight front, he has a good depth of chest, he carries a good body for his age, he has a good topline which can be seen whilst on the moves. He was a bit of a handful but for me that is what I like in the breed.

2nd Place - Bubbapug King of Puddings (Mrs M Reid) – A smart male he has a nice head and expression, he has nice wrinkle with dark eye, he has good open nostrils, he has a good neck leading into good shoulder placement, he has a straight front for me he lacks a bit of width across chest, this could be seen in his movement both coming and going, he carried himself well in profile.

1st Place - Bilohka Beretta with Tomalca (Miss G & Mrs D Bradley & Edwards) – a smart masculine dog, he is drew my attention on entering the ring, he has a gorgeous head and expression his head working / wrinkle are clearly defined, with a lovely dark expressive eye he has open nostrils he has a really textbook head, he has a god broad neck leading into well placed shoulders , he has a good body and correct width and depth of chest, he has a lovely straight front, he has the correct topline, good tailset and carriage, he is well angulated on the move in profile he carries himself so well he moves with the correct gait both coming and going.

2nd Place - Judamie El Santos (Ms J & Mr D Dawson-Payne & Mousley) – This male is certainly an eye catcher , he is so outgoing, he is so well schooled, he certainly is full off enthusiasm , he has an pleasing head and expression with good defined wrinkle, his eyes are dark but full of mischief, he has good open nostrils, he has a lot of lovely attributes, for me today it felt like he was in a rush to get where he needed to go and as a result he lost his topline in profile and on the stance he stood a bit long , he has lovely rear angulation with good tail set.

He has a lovely head and expression he has really nice wrinkle with a lovely dark eye, he has good open nostrils, he has a lovely arched neck leading into well placed shoulders, he has a good body with a nice depth of chest, he has a lovely straight front, he has good rear angulation, he has a lovely body and can tell that he is exercised as he has lovely muscle. he has the correct tailset, he moves well both coming and going with the typical gait in profile he maintains a lovely shape. 2nd Place Nijacpugs Hot As Hell JW (Mrs J J Truelove )A very smart male with a lovely expressive head with nice wrinkle, he has good dark eyes, he has nice open nostrils he has a lovely straight front, leading into well laid shoulders, he has nice depth chest with a good body he has good rear angulation, he moves well with typical gait keeping a good shape, stands four square at all times.

1st Place - Ch Potbelli Limited Edition JW (Miss H & Mrs C Rutherford) – I looked back at my critic for this male from my last judging appointment and I can certainly see why I thought so much of him last time. He has matured into a most beautiful adult. He took my eye immediately, he is so well balanced and cobby, he is truly at one with his handler, he is attentive and alert, he has the most beautiful head and expression, with lovely working/wrinkle, lovely dark expressive eye full of mischief, nice open nostrils, he has a good strong arched neck leading into well placed shoulders, he has a lovely body with good depth and width of chest, lovely straight front, he has the correct rear angulation, moving in profile he moves so well with purpose, he has the typical gait one requires keeping a good profile movement is typical. For me he never stopped showing, in the challenge he stood out for his finer breed points Dog CC & Best of Breed

2nd Place - Ch Eastonite Porthos JW (Miss A J Ellis) – I liked this smart male he has a really exquisite head piece, with defined head workings giving a most endearing expression, he has a nice dark eye with nice open nostrils, he has a nice strong neck leading into good shoulders he has a nice front, he has good body with a nice rear angulation he carries himself so well in profile, he moves with typical gait, stands four square, he is so attentive.

1st Place Keetarose Stans Cameo (Miss E Lewington) – It took a while for this pug to settle , handler just needs a bit of patience and perhaps needs to go to a dog training club, .She has a nice head with good workings, she has a nice dark eye with good nostrils. Today it was very difficult to assess movement, for me she needs a bit more depth of chest and body, her topline was not great today she stood well and was attentive to handler.

1st Place - Ch Rhodenash Dream Chaser of Taftazini JW (Miss H Attwood) - _ I loved this beautiful veteran bitch, she is such an attentive bitch, She has the most wonderful head and expression with good head workings, she has a doleful dark eye, she has lovely open nostrils, she has a lovely body and chest, good straight front, she has lovely rear angulation, she moves so well in profile, moving coming and going she is so sound and has typical gait. 2nd Place - Zobear Bluebell Dancer of Rosewitch (Mrs Y R & Mrs R A Mitchell & Willis) – A sweet veteran bitch with a pretty head and expression, she has good working , nice dark eye, she has a good depth of chest and body, she carries herself with elegance, she stands four square, she moves soundly around the ring.

3rd Place - Marbelton Rainbow Magic at Hunterspug (Mr I & Mrs C Vurgest)

1st Place - Sophia Loren-Fv Dei Orisha at Roxmarr (Imp Ita) (Mrs C Hyde) - A beautiful well balanced puppy with a lovely neck and excellent tail, very nice feminine expression and pigment, good body for age, moved very well and showed well

2nd Place - Bilohka Baby Browning (Miss D R Bailey) Inquisitive expression. Excellent clean eyes & good nostrils. Good outline, well set tail. Moved around the ring giving a good account of herself. Loved her dark nails, all kept neatly short

3rd Place - Blacobby Lady Macbeth (Mrs J & Mr R Coulter)

1st Place - Flashnik Fenella Fellorick (Miss N & Miss H Cannon & Burroughs) – A very sweet minor puppy, she has a lovely feminine expression, she has a nice head with nice head workings, she has a lovely alert dark eye correct open nostrils, she is a nice size for her age she carries a nice body with good depth to her chest, she has a good straight front correct rear angulation she carries herself well, moves correctly both coming and going. She shows so well and is so attentive to handler.

2nd Place - Frommesbeck High Spirits at Conquell (Ms H G Linnett) – This young baby has a lovely head with good head workings she has a nice dark eye, she moves well and was happy she stood four square at all times just needs to mature in body but I am sure that will come with age.

She has a lovely broad neck leading into correct shoulders, She moves so well in profile keeping a shape at all times she moves with style and attitude, she moves with typical gait. 2nd Place - Judamie Thelma Jean (Ms J & Mr D Dawson-Payne & Mousley) – This bitch has the most amazing head with defined working, lovely dark expressive eyes, with good open nostrils. She is so willing to please, she stands well and does give her all. She has a good neck leading into good shoulders, good depth of chest she has good rear angulation, she moves with attitude at times felt that she was moved a little to quickly and as a result lost her outline in profile.

Very attentive to handler so wants to please.

2nd Place - Britishglory Avril at Joshotto (Miss A J Butterstone) – Pretty bitch who is a nice size, she has a tendency to stand very wide in front and in rear which detracts from her overall appeal, She has a good dark eye, would prefer more definition in head workings and less overwrinkle. She has a good depth to chest for me as a youngster needs to be moved slowly as movement was very erratic both coming and going, needs to loss a bit of weight as this will affect her going forward,

1st Place - Myter Saucy Secret (Mrs M Thomas) – I found this bitch to have good head working which are very clearly defined, she has a good dark eye, with correct open nostrils, she has a nice broad neck leading into well placed shoulders , she has good front, correct topline nice rear angulation, she has a lovely body , correct depth of chest, on the move she carries herself so well her movement is correct both coming and going she is so at one with her handler and so wants to please, a very promising bitch who I considered for higher honours today.

1st Place - Ropanelie Texas Blue Star (Mrs S Farnworth) – This bitch I had the pleasure of judging last time and she has certainly matured in to a beautiful bitch, she is an lovely size bitch, she is so on her toes, and at one with handler. I absolutely loved her head she has the most amazing headpiece with such clearly defined workings, she has a lovely dark eye, nice open nostril, she looks like she is so wanting to get up to mischief, she has the correct neck, leading into well placed shoulders she has a good front , she has the correct depth of chest with a good body, she has lovely rear angulation, she carries herself well in profile moved well on the rear. She was a little exhuberant coming towards me at times but I did consider her for higher honours today.

2nd Place - Afterglow This Little Piggy (Mrs A Nixon) – One that I have not seen before she is certainly a handful, she is lovely to watch in profile and when moved with understanding moves true both coming and going, she has such a happy disposition and another one that so wants to please her handler or the bait I am not sure. She has a very feminine head with good defined head workings she has a lovely dark expressive eye with nice open nostrils. She has a nice neck leading into well placed shoulders she has the correct front, she has the correct depth of chest she has good rear angulation, she is certainly a character,.
