Special Award Classes

Thank you to the society for inviting me to judge the special awards classes and to all exhibitors that had entered, which allowed me to judge this breed for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed judging and being welcomed into this breed. Also thank you to my efficient steward for keeping the ring very organised and flowing.

This breed is well known for being a head breed, this is of importance for myself but also accompanied by good sound movement with drive to complete the package.

Class A – Special Award Puppy Dog / Bitch (4,0)

1st Jackson’s, Amantra Somerset Gold

10 months dark rich chestnut ruby dog in great gleaming coat for age, lovely domed head accompanied with definite stop and short muzzle, dark eyes set wide, neat lips and overall pleasing when viewed from side profile and straight on. Medium neck flowing into well laid shoulder, had ease of movement around the ring, nice reach on the move, driving from behind holding a level top line. A very happy puppy in the ring, one I look forward to watching as he matures.

2nd Matches, Baldragon French Conexion at Fochai

8 months heavy marked tri dog, cobby masculine puppy, another in good coat for age. This one had more width of skull with wide, dark round eyes. Definite stop and short muzzle well cushioned throughout. Good feathering to ears framing the face. Good neck and great spring of rib and deep, wide chest for one so young. On the move today he was a bit unsettled at times which gave the edge to 1.

3rd Nemeth’s, Yeshalomi Yes To Girls Aloud

Class B – Special Award Graduate Dog / Bitch (6,2)

1st Smith’s, Justacharma Just Magical

2 year old, lightly marked Blenheim dog. Well cushioned head throughout, dark nose, distinct stop with short muzzle. On the move he won this class, he is parallel on the move, he is cobby and compact throughout and short in back, holding a level top line flowing into a correct tail, which is what the standard requires. Also has a great spring of rub, deep chest with good width, but for myself id like a touch more neck to complete the picture.

2nd Smith’s, Chacombe Just Magical for Justacharma

14 months Tri dog, A little unsettled today, reserved at times. However from view and hands on, a masculine dog throughout, plenty of bone and substance, yet I hope he doesn’t grow any taller. His head has depth and width, wide set eyes and good cushioning throughout. Good spring of rib and deep chest. Straight forelegs and hindquarters, on the move he was sound, holding his tail in the correct placement but unsettled, managed to do enough to secure his placement.

3rd Ratter’s, Chacombe Catch A Star For Seafar

Class C – Special Award Open Dog / Bitch (7,2)

1st Smith’s, Ch Justacharma Magic Goes On

5 year old tri male. A masculine, cobby and compact Charlie. Lovely dark round eyes, very melting pleasing expression. Nice deep stop, black nose with good turn up. Well cushioned throughout. Nice reach of neck, well sprung ribs, deep chest, with width, he’s short in back and loin. Good chest and forelegs. On the move he was sound and had a nice free movement. Shown in full coat, completes the package.

2nd Rushton’s, Tiflin We All Love Jack

6 years old Tri Male. I wrote in my notes... a happy toy spaniel! Ideal in size for myself. Pleasing head, large dark round eyes spaced wide apart, dark nose, well cushioned with neat finish to the lips. Nice reach of neck, good front and tight elbows. Another shown in a nice coat with feathering to appropriate places. He’s short in back, level top line on the stand and on the move. His ease of movement around the ring, so sound accompanied with reach and drive.

3rd Abbott’s, Helmajon Rhapsody In Blue
