Breed: Cirneco Dell'Etna

Windsor Championship Dog Show 29th June 2024

Cirneco Del Etna

Great to have been invited to judge this very special and endearing breed again, always a pleasure with the very sporting exhibitors. Surprised they still have not received CC status yet, as the breeders have worked so hard to keep and improve on the excellent type and style that I’ve seen them consistently showing over the years.

Post Graduate Dog: 2 ( 1 abs)

1st Hillyer and McDonnells’ Kinabulas Solitaire

2 years old, I like his head and eye, correct ears, good length with moderate tuck up, would like a little more slope of pastern but moved adequately front and rear with nice side movement.

Limit Dog: 2

1st McDonnells’ Kinabulas Blue Topaz with Triquetra.

Litter brother to above, very handsome and oozes style and quality. I really liked everything about his overall balance and conformation, an easy winner today, he excels in movement, does exactly as the standard requires, springy trot and excellent tracking. In the challenge he outreached his father, and please to award him Best Dog and Best of Breed, excellent example of his breed and looked the part in the Hound Group.

2nd Warrens’ Silvento Orpheus for Shantim (Imp UKR)

4 years more mature and heavier in type than above, but he has good overall balance with nice front and hind co-ordination. Masculine throughout, preferred the topline and style of my winner today, but another good representative of the breed.

Open Dog: 2

1st Fairleigh and McDonnells’ Kinabulas Milanowith Triquetra

Nearly 6 years upstanding male who looked good standing and in good form for his age. Lovely head and eye, ears and set, good neck into well laid shoulder, excellent depth and length of body, correct front and hind co-ordination, and finishes the picture with nice level topline and correct fallaway. I can see a lot of his qualities in his young son today who just had the edge on the move. Res Best Dog.

2nd Warrens’ Kinabulas Marocchina at Shantim

6 years half brother to winner, slightly preferred the more elegant head of above but he has good overall conformation, would like a little less weight which would help his topline on the move.

Special beginners: 1

1st Austin and Rogers’ Kinabulas Ekanite

Another litter sibling to my best of breed. Pleasing head with nice expression, good ears, not dissimilar in style and conformation with correct outline, kept topline well on the move. Very nice side movement but not as true coming towards me as still a little loose in his pasterns.

Open Bitch: 1

1st McDonnells’ Kinabulas Tonal Topaz with Triquetra

Excellent 2 ½ years lovely quality bitch who has lovely style and presence, she looked great standing and moving, sound throughout, another one that this breeder should be proud of. So sad that she was the only bitch, had to give way to her very special brother today for Best of Breed, but shows great promise for the continuing future of this super breed in the U.K
