Three Counties Agricultural Society

Breed: Saluki

Three Counties Championship Show 06 June 2024

Salukis:

Such a graceful, loving breed that I have always had a bit of a soft spot for, and have enjoyed judging them many times. Today I was a little concerned with several loose pasterns and lack of front and hind co-ordination, but very happy with my final choices and thrilled to see my BOB awarded Hound Group 2, and my best puppy won Hound Puppy Group 2.

Puppy Dog: 2(1abs)

1st Thomas’ Sincerity Kalimantan Cashar (imp Fin)

Very handsome 11mth black grizzle, lovely head and eye, correct ears and set, good depth and well ribbed back with good length of loin, low set tail with correct carriage on the move. Sound throughout, definitely one for the future. I liked him a lot, looked well in the challenge for the Res CC but lacked maturity on the final move.

Junior Dog: 2

1st Warner and Layton Smiths’ Kushiel Freespirits Sirrush (imp USA)

17 mths black fringed red, looked well standing but head not my style, not typical. Well muscled and in hard condition with good depth and length, would like more front angulation, but he moved sounder today than his classmate, still a little fond of his tail.

2nd Harrisons’ Zafaraniyeh Sahari

14mths black and tan, less mature than above, I actually preferred his head and expression, and also his tail set and carriage on the move, but he was not as settled coming towards me. Good topline, just needs to tighten up, looked a real baby compared to above.

Post Graduate dog: 3 (1abs)

1st Cole and Garbutts’ Wazifi Aban Abzi

26 months black fringed red, elegant head and dark eye, good ears and set, correct length and depth with nice topline. Would like to see more body, but still a youngster in large hound terms and has plenty of time to mature. Slightly more hind angulation than front, but he moves with style and presence which won him the class today.

2nd Harrisons’ Khamsins Phoenix at Charrioak

3 ½ year old tri colour smooth, more mature hound who unfortunately was another who let himself down on the move. Stylish male, who has good overall type, well bodied with good front and hind co-ordination. Difficult decision between these two, both had a lot to like about them but was out moved by the winner.

Limit Dog: 3 (1abs)

1st Strongs’ Shahzad Zaki Ter Dolen (imp BEL)

Mature at nearly 5 years, very classy black fringed fawn, I loved his head and eye, great ears and set, excellent overall conformation with lovely outline. He is balanced front and rear, good fallaway with correct tail and set, great feathering which is presented to perfection. He has excellent type and presence, looked a picture going around the ring, which for me, helped me decide to award him the CC in very strong competition.

2nd De Souza, De Souza and Woodgates’ Lucachmhar Jalil

3 years black and tan, graceful hound with handsome head and eye, correct ears and set, good front and hind co-ordination with nice low set hocks, good tail, set and carriage. Slightly preferred overall outline of winner today, well handled.

Open Dog: 6

Very good class to judge, first four particularly nice and difficult to separate.

1st Aldous and Glaisters’ Ch Jay Jp Sea Bird El Panjsher (imp JPN)

5 ½ years mature cream, rather refined elegant hound who has great style, excellent overall balance with good hind and front angulation. Well bodied with good length, kept topline when on the move, excellent presentation and his handler got the best out of him, just preferred overall type of my CC winner in the challenge, but pleased to award him the Res CC.

2nd Harding and Cowleys’ Ch Classicus Odysseus at Ashahni

Nearly 5 years, this very handsome grizzle really looked the part standing, very nice to go over, and masculine throughout, but still has that lovely elegance and style. At first glance he was my winner, he is sound front and rear with smooth easy movement. Unfortunately today he was rather too enthusiastic and spoiled the side picture by carrying his tail a little too fondly.

3rd Walton- Haddons’ Ch Badavie Don Peppino at Ilsham (imp SWE)

Veteran dog: 1

1st Smithson and Thorsteinsons’ Sunnusteins Safaniyah Jamili Chisobee (Imp ISL)

At nearly 8 years old, this hound this hound really made the best of his day, a real showman in excellent condition with good depth and body. Tri Colour who looked good standing with nice outline, a little unsettled in front but has good style and presence.

Puppy Bitch: 1

1st Sanders Parkerand Revany’s ERA Lilian Giliath Classicus (imp CZE)

Very pretty 11 ½ mths cream, who unfortunately stood alone but I really liked everything about her, she has great overall type and substance and oozes quality, sound easy mover whose maturity won her best puppy and please to watch her awarded Hound Puppy Group 2.

Junior Bitch: 3

1st Davies’ Zafaraniyeh Dashte Margo

14 month black and tan, two litter sisters in this class who are very similar in style and type. Both are refined and feminine, I slightly preferred Margos head and muzzle, lovely dark eye, nicely moderate throughout with no extremes. Good depth and loin, with slightly better topline than second, would like a little more length of rib, outmoved her sibling today but I’m sure they will often change places.

2nd Davies’ Zafaraniyeh Dashte Kavir.

Black fringed fawn, feminine youngster with nice expression, another who has good front and hind co-ordination, slightly longer in loin than her sister and a little fond of her tail today.

3rd Jowitts’ Barleymoon Zara.

Post Graduate Bitch: 3 (1abs)

1st Smithson and Thorsteinsons’ Silvershadow Zelda Odi Et Amo Elessar

2 ½ years chocolate, well balanced head into good length of neck, she has good depth of brisket and length with correct topline. Would like a little more front angulation to compare with her hindquarters, low set hocks. Moved adequately to win the class, has good side movement.

2nd Mackenzie Loughrans’ Classicus Ophelia

4 years fawn, pretty head and eye, at first was my winner as I slightly preferred her overall type, she looked good standing with nice depth and topline. Excellent side movement with correct tail and set. Would like a little more drive behind and a little loose in front today.

3rd Lardens’ Wazifi Adira Afiyah

Limit Bitch: 3 (1 abs)

1st Coles’ El’Ubaids Zulu ( imp NDL)

4 years fawn feminine throughout with well balanced head and dark eye, good neck into well laid shoulders, well ribbed back with good depth and length. Nicely set tail with moderate hind angulation, low set hocks. Another who outmoved her classmate today and kept topline well.

2nd Harding and Cowleys’ Classicus Florentia at Ashahni.

2 years parti-colour, not as feminine in head as above, but has nice expression with good ears and set. A stylish youngster who has depth and length with correct tail set and carriage. I liked her overall

type, but not quite the front and hind co-ordination on the move as the winner.

Open Bitch: 4

Like my open dog class this class was a pleasure to judge, all four exhibits had a lot to like about them, all deserving their titles and only minute points separated my final choices.

1st Sanders Parkers’ Ch Classicus Felicitas JW

Red and white parti-colour, still a youngster at 2 ½ years, one ive admired since a puppy and she really has matured into a lovely adult. I liked her excellent overall conformation, so sound throughout with great type and substance. Still has more maturing to do, but for me today she won easily and pleased to award her the BCC, BOB and very happy to see her awarded Hound Group 2.

2nd Williams’ Ch Luachmhar Jadira Kasaque

Beautiful 3 ¼ years black and tan litter sister to the handsome second in Limit dog today. She oozes quality and type, very pretty head and eye, excellent outline which I slightly preferred to the winner, but she was outmoved today by the younger hound, close decision for Res CC.

3rd Garrett and Oakleys’ Ch Caryna Esperanza

Veteran Bitch: 1

1st Garrets and Oakleys’ Ch Caryna Neferti

What a shame she stood alone, lovely cream who at 10 years old is a credit to her owner/breeder, in fine form in many ways she really does not look her age. Excellent overall balalnce and style, looked good standing and moving, keeping her topline at all times, which many didn’t today. Feminine throughout, with lovely overall conformation, one I have placed well in the Hound Group many years ago and pleased to award her the Res CC today and Best Veteran.
