GUNDOG GROUP

My sincere thanks to Southern Counties Canine Association for the invitation to judge my first Gundog Group, it was a privilege to judge at this prestigious show and I was afforded such a warm welcome, I had a lovely day with some super dogs, sadly one or two exhibits weren't as happy in the bigger ring as they must have been in the breed ring which impacted on my shortlist.

Before selecting my final four, I also shortlisted the eye catching Bracco Italiano - Towns’ Braccorions You Are My Candy, the feminine Red & White Setter - Gardner’s Sh Ch. Charnborough Charisma of Danwish JW who was just tiring a touch, the young Weimaraner - Charlish’s Gunalt The Hangover JW, what a future prospect he is and the showy racy English Springer Calvert’s Sh Ch. Calvdale Flutter JW.

Group 1 was awarded to the Pointer - Oddie’s Sh Ch. Sharnphilly Boondoggle JW to whom I've previously awarded a CC, he is, as I recall, so sound and typey and unrelenting in his performance, classic in outline, appealing head, so very sound, he took my eye immediately and didn't for a second falter.

Group 2 was the Spanish boy - Hodgkinson-Rutherford/Rutherford’s Sh Ch/Hr Ch. Zorrazo Hey There Yogi Bear, could he move, clearly loves the bigger ring and the more space he had to move the better he got, his coat his super, he oozes type and he can really cover the ground, not seen him before but he was as good on the stack as he was on the move.

Group 3 the American - Nelson/Bryant’s Sh Ch. Nasailleen Bye Felicia, lovely head, in super coat, a good size, and moved well, I’m sure this bitch has more to come, coped admirably in a challenging ring, was untiring in her movement and performance.

Group 4 the Viszla - Watson’s Sh Ch. Oakswarren Inferno, another who I previously awarded a CC just over two weeks ago, the soundness and cleanliness of this HPR coming and going can't be denied, on the stack he is typical and shown in perfect condition with a lovely coat of good colour, I actually thought he looked better in the group, the big ring suits him.
