HUNGARIAN VIZSLA
My first time awarding Challenge Certificates in this breed, my thanks to the exhibitors for what was a very numerically strong entry, it was a pleasure to assess your breed, whilst soundness on the move prevailed, I was taken aback at the variance and proliferation of untypical heads, some lacking stop and others overly wide in skull, some almost houndy with no tapering to the muzzle, coat and colour was fine, fronts were disappointing, where as rear ends were generally good, presence of good upper arm with correct length and angle was not common, I found quite a number of exhibits lacking substance and robustness too, this is meant to be a medium boned hunting dog and whilst all were lively and energetic, I would liked to have seen more substance in some of them.
PD 2(1)
1. Miles/Watkins’ Kincsem Break Every Rule. Impressive striking 11 month old male, lovely colour and correct texture to coat, in head he is all male with a sufficiently wide skull and median line, longish strong neck, he was shown in super order and handled to best advantage, he moved around the smallish ring with ease, I appreciated his bone and substance particularly for one so young, his temperament was spot on too, BP.
JD 2(1)
1. Underdown’s Bitcon Northern Dancer. Another striking male in super condition, ribs well back, just enough depth, lovely feet with well arched nails, lovely deep russet colour, correct amount of bone and well off for proportions, moved well and shown to best advantage, unfortunate that he stood alone today.
PGD 8(1)
These two were difficult to separate.
1. Reakes’ Vizslanya Varur with Thrihyrne JW. Upstanding russet colour, male with good depth and short back, doesn’t always stand to best advantage, balanced to the fore and rear and moves well, neck sufficiently long and feet with sufficiently arched nails, in good hard condition.
2. Murray/Parker’s True Magic of Skyrocket at Szelkiraly (imp JW). This was my class winner at first glance, has just enough depth and liked him for proportions in head, he is typical and appealing with the slightly tapering muzzle, occasionally just looks a little long, would prefer more angulation to the upper arm.
3. Green/Martin/Ryan’s Goviz Spring Rains by Viszaset (AI).
LD 4(1)
1. Denholm’s Roxombury Moonage Daydream of Molheden. Good size male with super rib, could be a touch shorter but is balanced to the fore and rear, well arched toes, level top-line with a coat of good colour and texture, sufficiently long neck, in muzzle he is fuller and it doesn’t taper as much as I would ideally prefer.
2. Clubb/Mason’s Betekints Kende with Oroshaza (imp HUN). A lighter colour who is striking but has a tendency to slightly arch over the croup, undeniably male but his head is a little heavy for my liking which I found a bit distracting, his stifles are well bent with well arched toes and bone, medium size and robustness.
3. McCulloch’s Dinnsearmor’s Glenlochy.
OD 5(1)
1. Watson’s Oakswarren Inferno. Didn’t immediately strike me as my class winner but such an honest dog with nothing overdone, medium sized and balanced, hocks well let down, well nailed feet, level top-line held on the move, his head is ok although I would prefer more stop, just enough depth, doesn’t immediately wow you but he is oh so sound, tuck up less pronounced than 1, I would perhaps like a little more of him but I didn’t doubt that he was capable of a day’s work, his soundness convinced me that he could go all day, DCC.
2. Miles’ Sh Ch. Layways Van Winkle JW. One I have admired from afar for so very long, today he just wasn’t as clean as 1 coming and going but he is oh so balanced, absolutely higher on the withers, scores in rib, oh such a lovely colour and in the hardest of conditions, his head is a little heavy to handle and whilst the winner’s head wasn’t wholly to my liking, I found it preferable today, he was in immaculate hard condition and is a credit to his owners, RDCC.
3. Gloudeman’s Shilla Line Oskar.
VD 2(0)
1. Clubb/Mason/Findlay’s Sh Ch. Oroshaza Chukar Cw. Upstanding male with the shorter body of the two, well off for angulation which was balanced fore and aft, super rib complimented by being in lovely hard condition, well arched feet and whilst greying around the muzzle was otherwise of a lovely colour, very sound on the move.
2. Morton/Milicevic/Burns’ Sh Ch/Ir Ch/Lux Ch. Andronja’s Stradale Lux JCh, Ir JCh. I adored this chap’s head, exemplified that slightly tapering muzzle and length of skull, level top-line over a body that was longer than 1, just enough depth, good bone, would prefer slightly lower hocks, moved very well.

1. Denholm’s Roxombury Moonage Daydream of Molheden. 1st in LD.
2. Reakes’ Vizslanya Varur with Thrihyrne JW. 2nd in PGD.
3. McCulloch’s Corrienne Dinnsearmor’s Glenlochy.

1. Denholm’s Roxombury Moonage Daydream of Molheden. 1st in LD & SpBD.
PB 6(0)
1. McDonald’s Donurie’s Texas Honky Tonk. A baby but my goodness she is of the correct proportions, she had a depth of chest unlike many, she is balanced with that slightly longer neck, her muzzle tapers and the expression is soft, on the move she needed time but eventually was coordinated and covered the ground with ease, I would prefer a more typical tail carriage which detracts slightly from an otherwise memorable performance.
2. Scourfield/Kantor/Ward’s Glenbrows Roulette at Danton. This bitch didn’t immediately strike me, lighter than some but not incorrect, I liked her for height and she is balanced to the fore and rear, super neck into well made shoulders and excellent feet but lacked the depth of 1.
3. Gottlieb’s Russetmantle Lilou.
JB 3(0)
1. McBeath’s Roughshoot Red Hot for Redhunt. Pleasing bitch, good colour and coat, level short back, well off for rib, nice bone, lovely long neck, well bent stifles with hocks sufficiently well let down, on the move she was sound and determined and just pipped 1 today, although they could swap places on another occasion.
2. Aynsley’s Vizash Heiress of Caorunn. My class winner on the stack, I think she was lovely, super type, balanced and so classic in outline, I really did like her, her top-line was firm, short and strong which she retained on the move, sadly on the move she was a little lacklustre which cost her the class today, one to watch.
3. Morton/Milicevic’s Bitcon Put A Spell On You.
PGB 11(3)
1. Clubb/Mason’s Oroshaza Bumble Bee JW. Caught my eye and didn’t disappoint, so typical and typy in outline, medium size with a substance many lacked, she has the depth and has enough depth in her head which is appealing, her top-line is short, level and strong, on the move she wasn’t at her best but couldn’t be denied today.
2. Gloudeman/Krupinska’s Shilla Line Uma. Much to like about this bitch, she was close up to 1, honest with nothing to hide, more moderate in angles with hocks well let down, she is higher at the withers with a good length of neck, her top-line is strong, she was longer than 1 but not incorrect, a pleasure to assess, no doubt they could change places, moved well.
3. Watson’s Oakswarren Light My Fire (AI).
LB 5(1)
1. McDonald’s Donurie’s Russian Roulette (AI). This bitch really appealed on the stack, had substance and depth many lacked, good strong bone, level top-line higher at withers, lovely head and expression, her tail set and carriage is quite a distraction on the move where she is sound and clean.
2. Murray/Parker’s Menta of Skyrocket at Szelkiraly (imp). Close up to 1, just a touch longer and more moderate, nothing wrong with her, level top-line, just enough depth, correct feet, good colour and coat.
3. Gottlieb’s Russetmantle Maia (AI).
OB 7(1)
1. Legg/Scott’s Sh Ch. Oakswarren Pure Magic Cw 24 (AI) ShCEx. An unassuming bitch lacking a little spirt and determination today but she is sound, has a level top-line, a little longer in body but I was prepared to forgive this, just enough depth, adequate bone, although being critical I would prefer a touch more, in head she was better than many in the class, very sound and covered the ground well with some ease, RBCC.
2. Ward’s Sh Ch. Danton Obsession with Tantaraviz ShCEx. I have judged this bitch before, she scores in the fore where her shoulders are well back and she has forechest that many in this breed should envy, has minimal tuck and balanced fore and rear, lovely head and expression, so typy and well handled, I just felt that 1 was more typical on the move, her tail carriage is not for me.
3. Clubb/Mason’s Oroshaza Lucy Locket.
VB 2(0)
1. Layton’s Layways Lana Del Rey. 9 year old bitch, so so classic and classy for shape, robustness and that unique distinguished appearance, she could not be beaten, I adored her, so much type and style and so very balanced, well off for rib, super top-line, good colour for age, a top-line with strength that many would envy, spot on for proportions, it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to assess her, I had no hesitation in awarding her the BCC although unknown to me, I would have been surprised had she not been titled, I was later told it her 31st I believe and the bitch breed record, she was BOB & BV.
2. Aynsley’s Sh Ch. Recuerdo Monika of Caorunn. A lovely bitch, unlucky to meet 1 today as there is much to like about her, balanced but moderate, lovely top-line, fabulous colour and condition, super rear end excellent feet and nails, I loved her attitude, she was another that absolutely knew her appearance should be distinguished and clearly enjoyed carrying it off.
SpBB 3(0)
1. McBeath’s Roughshoot Red Hot for Redhunt. 1st in JB.
2. Stalker’s Kinharrachies Bed of Roses. Puppy bitch, super depth of colour, nice tight feet, lovely top-line, a little longer in body than some, very moderate, moved soundly, carrying a little too much weight which rather spoiled her waistline.
3. Hamilton’s Brundtland Gunfield Nordic Dream.
