Breed: Lagotto Romagnolo

LAGOTTO ROMAGNOLO

I very much enjoyed this entry, the first time I have judged this number of Laggotto together which was illuminating and pleasurable, it was a good size ring for the breed, my main concern was movement, with some typey exhibits being disappointing on the move, particularly going around, despite looking the part and showing they were unable to cover the ground well, I was pleased that evidence of styling was limited, temperaments were excellent.

1. Whitworth’s Mad Max Madiba of Freworth (imp ITA). Didn’t immediately strike me as my winner but settled into his role, as he relaxed his outlined, softened and became more typical, correct length of leg to body proportions and squarely built too, lovely head, oval boned and moved well, was more settled on the move than 2 today, a promising prospect.

2. Lightfoot’s Rajo Del Carpino Nero. Struck me immediately but didn’t quite settle like the winner, loved his outline and proportions, no mistaking his sex or breed, scores in head, eye and bite but today he wasn’t settled on the move and let himself down, his time will come with more experience.

1. Pragg/Willott’s Arcticbreeze On Vacation. Stood alone but appealed, good bone and shape, correct proportions, scores in body and was shown in excellent condition with correct body and well muscled rear, his coat was rustic and in good order, his feet were tight, he was of nice body and he moved very soundly covering the ground enthusiastically and with some drive, RBD.

1. Hamlyn’s Bransbubble High Neb. 3 year old male of oval bone, good spring of rib, nearly round, kind eye giving a lovely expression with a soft temperament to match, larger correctly set ear, he really scores in coat having lots of profuse dense curls, undoubtedly waterproof, he was sound on the move but didn’t really cover the ground as much as I would like.

1. Whittick’s Arcticbreeze Turbulence at Allsong. Super quality male, stood alone but oozed quality, loved his proportions, held himself so very well, cracking hard top-line, retained on the move, he was sound going around and clean coming and going, his coat was a mass of the tightest curls, natural but well presented, round eye, strong teeth, oval bone, he was alert, merry and attentive, I really liked him and took pleasure in assessing him today, BD & BOB.

1. Stephenson’s Made Chianti for Timtaurn. Super quality bitch, loved her for type and femininity, proportions were spot on with a lovely coat emerging, in head she is correct with lovely nostrils, good round eye and correct ear, I would prefer a touch more depth of chest but that may come with time, she stood and showed so very well, one to watch, BP.

2. Piper’s Solipse L’amore Vero at Heidsieck. A young puppy who was very much enjoying her first time out with such an every wagging tail, it was a joy to judge her, just not as coordinated on the move as one, more moderate than some but not incorrect as she is balanced, he head is correct and her eye and nose colour harmonise beautifully.

1. Stephenson’s Made Chianti for Timtaurn. Repeat.

2. Gunson’s Gameglow Rockstar at Wyecaple. More mature than 1 but sadly carrying too much condition which showed on the move, in outline very typical and a lovely size, so feminine and showed well too, I liked her for size and in coat with the dense woolliness we look for, head handled nicely but she was not overly cooperative, much to like, a little to work on.

3. Tanner/Kirkham’s Arcticbreeze Smile and Wave.

1. Allen’s Amadar Sweet Child O’Mine. I liked this girl for size and type, on the move she needed to motor to find her natural, long easy stride otherwise she tended to throw herself about a little, as she stood alone we had time to establish this, good in body, moderate in angles with a super expression, she just needs that extra ounce of confidence and robustness.

A really challenging class to judge.

1. Slater’s Regun Nara. A moderate bitch but she was sound and classic on the move, she was rustic un-styled and very typical, her outline and type was lovely but she isn’t the showiest and doesn’t always stand to best advantage so is easy to overlook, as I sent them around again her movement was evident to see, RBB.

2. Whittick’s Moonreed Warbler at Allsong. A six year old taller bitch with everything correct but her head wasn’t wholly for my liking, whilst appealing I felt it was a little longer in planes than required, she is sound and typical and in proportion just taller than I would prefer, she was superbly presented and in super coat.

3. Heller’s Arcticbreeze Hopscotch to Floreydown.

1. Whittick’s Allsong Nuova Luna. Oozed type, she was rubber-stamped Lagotto and classically feminine, beautiful curls, a lovely size and showed very well, shown in super order, she is so balanced and really used herself on the move, her top-line is strong and she held herself so very well, I loved her head, eye and ear, I was rather taken with her. BB.
