Breed: Italian Spinone
THE SCOTTISH KENNEL CLUB SUNDAY 19TH MAY 2024 ITALIAN SPINONE My first Championship show appointment which I thoroughly enjoyed, my thanks to the supportive ringside and for all exhibitors for accepting my decision in such a sporting manner. The level of soundness was good and temperaments were excellent, I was surprised with dentition which was not as strong, as I had expected in this continental sporting breed, coats were so very mixed; coming from a wire coated breed I was surprised at the lack of harsh jackets with correct undercoat, only a handful of the exhibits were in really good hard condition and those that were prevailed, heads, whilst mixed, were not problematic with good planes, ear set, wide nostrils and nice clean eyes, oval bone was evident throughout and movement was sound but with a variance in the range of a typicalness, a few relaxed fast trot was not as common as I had anticipated, just because an exhibit is sound doesn’t mean the movement is typical. JD 1(0) 1. Cozens’ Fiducia Tilicho Peak at Ballyadeen. Upstanding male full of personality with the most wonderful disposition, correct oval bone, harsh dense coat emerging, lovely head and expression with correct planes and well defined occiput, kind eye and lovely feet, on the move he was a little unsettled but sound all the same. PGD 4(1) 1. Burrows’ Quebaikei Tartan n’ Tweed. Upstanding chap with great robustness, not in the best of coats today but he was balanced fore and rear with sufficient rear angulation, he was the cleanest coming and going, correct oval boned and lovely head, short neck, would like to see him in full coat. 2. Cayford/Hanscombe’s Diggmere Winwood Ranger. Extremely typey dog in great condition, lovely coat, great attitude, nothing overdone, he has more angulation but is balanced, he was less clean coming and going but has a nice outline and what fun he was too. 3. Sayer’s Testaverde Row To The Pole. LD 3(1) 1. Duncan’s Diggmere Tiger Swallowtail JW. Pleasing young male, super bone and width of first and second thigh, liked him for his depth of chest and moderate tuck up, on the move he was oh so sound with a really lovely stride, oval bone, great feet, pleasing head and expression, in good coat and showed well. 2. Collett’s Stagerun Matteo. Much to like about this square well angled dog, carrying too much condition for me which meant he rolled on the move however beautifully presented, lovely short neck into well made shoulders, took a little time to get going on the move which sadly cost him his place today. OD 7(0) I was splitting hairs between these on, I just felt that one had a little more length of stride and better muscle tone. 1. Clark/Sharp’s Sh Ch. Affilato You Can Bank On It. Young dog coming into his prime but oh so typical, shown in superb condition, oval boned, short necked just enough depth of chest with minimal tuck up which creates that underline one expects in this breed, his coat was the best I had felt all day, well off for rib and his head is beautiful to handle too. I had pleasure in awarding him the DCC and later for BOB, I felt that he retained that typical outline with more ease and had the longer easier stride. 2. Littlemore’s Sh Ch. Inostricani Bell Ragazzo via Krismoor JW. 3 year old male who was unlucky to meet one, I really liked him for depth and body his hocks were well let down his is balanced fore and rear with a short neck and moderate topline. I loved his type, outline and robustness, there was no mistaking his sex or breed. I liked him very much and, on another day, would have happily had him heading the class, just not quite in the condition of 1 today, RDCC. 3. Gill’s Sh Ch. Testaverde Enrico Caruso Del Jocagil. PB 3(0) 1. Wagh’s Dewdhala Sempre Agnese. Lovely pup, appealed immediately, scores in body and depth which was of note for one so young, sound with a long easy stride, her head is well constructed, oval shaped with strong correct dentition, oval boned and a good coat emerging, it will be interesting to see her progress, BP. 2. Burrows’ Quebaikei Royal Highlander. An upstanding bitch, her head whilst correct in planes and with a well pronounced occiput was a little too lean for my preference, short neck into well made shoulders, her robustness is exemplified by good ribs, for me she was carrying too much weight today which cost her. 3. Hastings’ Scodinzolare Paola Del Feriiia. JB 4(1) 1. Wagh’s Dewdhala Sempre Agnese. As PB. 2. Bovio’s Rossella Princess Pea. Lovely bitch with much to like, a real depth and denseness to her coat, super rib, lovely arched neck and feminine in head and expression, there is enough curvature to her top-line for one so young, on the move she really stood out but was unlucky to meet 1. 3. Knowles/Glen’s Sanjika Icona at Bessalone. PGB 3(0) 1. Lawton’s Quebaikei Heather n’ Honey for Oaklaw. Young bitch, not in the best of coats today but I must say I was rather taken with her and she grew on me, she is oh so balanced with lowish hocks, textbook feet, lovely bone, lean oval skull, excellent dentition, kind eye and moved very well. 2. Leamy’s Diggmere Edith’s Copper. Slightly different to one in proportions, I would prefer less leg but otherwise there is much to like, moderate angles but with a deep chest, short arched neck and classic divergent planes in skull. 3. Crowden’s Stowledge Clarice Cliff. LB 3(0) 1. Lawton’s Quebaikei Accossato for Oaklaw. A more moderate bitch than 2 but today she was in far better, harsher, denser coat, good proportions, lovely body although she could be deeper in chest, well arched neck, nice outline, a three year old bitch who I think has more to come as she matures. 2. Bovio’s Ilsolo River Island JW. I absolutely adored this bitch, so very classic and typey, as nice to handle as she was to watch, she is moderate but balanced, oval bone, well let down hocks and a moderate but correct top-line, possibly between coats as is lacked ‘bite’ which cost her the class today. 3. Duncan’s Diggmere Stuffoli at Larhuly. OB 5(0) 1. James’ Inostricani Fianna. Mature bitch in great body and condition, she is correctly proportioned with a human expression and with a cheekiness hidden beneath the profuse beard and eyebrows, lovely coarse coat with harshness, oval bone, nice feet, short necked, she has a long easy stride, being critical, her tail carriage is a little distracting, BCC, her third and her title I believe, my congratulations. 2. Sharp’s Sh Ch. Affilato It Had To Be You JW. A younger bitch with much still to come I think, I loved her for size and shape, her coat and presentation is first class, another from this kennel that clearly understands the coarse coat and density requirements, possibly a little overly laid back on the move which cost her today but I will watch her progress with interest, RBCC. VB 2(0) 1. Wagh’s Sh Ch. Prottino Del Vera by Dewdhala. Super in size and outline, she is classically deep with moderate tuck up, balanced with a real arch to her neck, her head planes are correct and the construction in the fore is as required, her ribs are well sprung, on the move she is sound and typical, I was not remotely surprised to learn that she has her title and she pushed the open winner hard but gave away on age, BV. 2. Duncan’s Diggmere Strawberry Heart at Larhuly. An upstanding bitch, higher on leg, correct bone, lovely head with the richest of liver colours, moderate but acceptable, just deep enough with a classic top-line, moved well, just didn’t have length of the stride and positivity of 1. GCB 1(0) 1. Lawton’s Quebaikei Heather n’ Honey for Oaklaw. Repeat. Jennifer Millard
